Masseyboy89
Hi all, Our beaver could do with a new clutch - can anyone point me in the right direction? I have been told that they have a multiple plate clutch, and have been advised to put a single plate in it - Is this true? If so what cover assembly should I use? Thanks, Simon. GadgetMajor
Hiya I will be very surprised if the Beaver has a multi-plate clutch as I thought the Bedford RL had a single plate clutch. Unfortunately the authority on beavers has been banned - Antarmike. Mine has had a new clutch 3 years ago - 2 1/2 before I got it so cannot guarantee for sure. Can't be much of a job to take it apart to find out. Let us know what you find....
Richard Farrant
It is a long time ago when I did a clutch on a Eagar Beaver, but I recall they have a paddle type clutch plate, to put up with the frequent clutch use and abuse. These do not have a ring lining, but four pads each side of a ceramic material.

There are a couple of parts on the hydraulics that I am not sure about - do you think you may remember or even know about the bits if I describe them? Giles
Or even do you know anyone with a repair manual for one - nice if it was the MKII as well. If only!!!

Hi Giles, It has a RL gearbox, but engine is a normal Perkins and a Borg and Beck clutch. Once removed and taken to a motor factors, a replacement could easily be matched up. As I said previously, a ceramic paddle clutch plate is used as they are harder wearing in this sort of vehicle. Ed Batchelor
A work pal of mine was in the REME when these were in service and they had an appetite for clutches apparently!
