Steam generator?

My late Uncle always said there was one piece of ww2 kit he always looked out for at sales but never saw one.

It is/was apparently a small suitcase that contained a type of steam boiler, generator and radio transmitter for use by spies and resistance. The idea being it was taken into a wooded area, the boiler was fired using twigs and moss ect. the steam ran the generator and powered the Tx.

I can only imagine a 'Mamod' style unit but it'd be interesting to know if anything like it did exist and was used?

Rather better than "Mamod", and there were a few different models produced for "spook" use.

The Duxford Radio Society have got one of these, I believe, and have actually fired it up (if you'll excuse the pun).

I saw one of these at an Autojumble about 30 years ago and didn't realise what it was until later. Always regretted not buying it.

I did hear that they were also used by Coast Watchers in the Pacific to charge Radio Batteries. Anyone confirm this?
