AndyFowler
There a few nice variations here chaps ! Apparently the low body was to enable them to get closer to aircraft and thus make refueling easier ! http://www.blackcountrymemories.org.uk/thompbros/thompbros02.htm
Richard Farrant
check out the twin-engined Euclid dozer in the background :nut: I know that yard, remember the dozer standing there. Went up to inspect a 1929 army lorry for a friend, there is a lot of very interesting tractors there.
Ian L
If I had nothing to do I'd buy it ! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120828742050&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123 Theres a complete unrestored example tucked away in the back of the Aircraft hanger at the Airfield that I fly from. Apart from the working one at North Weald Aerodrome how many exist and are they rare ?
Gordon_M
They can't be that rare, as I've actually driven one - quite an experience. The design is Thompson Brothers, basically a structural tank with a wheel at the front and a small Ford flathead four at the back to power transfer pumps and wheels. Tanks has two or three compartments for fuels and lubricants. Chain drive to two rear wheels I remember, Weir Pumps in Glasgow did the pumps, commonly found with Zwicky boom too. Smaller, lower units pre-WW2 ( smaller aircraft ) bigger units, with boom during WW2. Tank, boom and pump setup is reputed to be the same as the back of the QL refueller.
