whitey193
Hi all. This is my first post and a bigee.. I'm after a master brake cylinder for a Disc braked Sankey, manufactured by Universal engineering. I've attached as much info as I can glean and put together, plus photos and approx. measurements which are on the photos. It would appear that the master brake cylinder also fits a Reliant Scimitar GTE 5a (but don't quote me on that ). A search on google seems to suggest it's the same and a photo of one seems to suggest they are one and the same. I've attached this photo as well. These are the part numbers from the trailer parts catalogue should that help. Reynaulds-Boughton Universal Trailers Ltd (This is shown as manufaturer on the plate attached to my trailer). Viking Trailers Ltd As stated I'm after the brake assembly, basically the master brake cylinder, reservoir and push rod which should come as part of it. Unfortunately the numbers on the side of the original aren't great so I've quoted as best as I can. On the side of mine it says LUCAS - and then what looks like 8y3?? And the other side is 01N 7326 or 01N 7226 or DIN 7326 or DIN 7226 (both of these aren't very readable). There is a black tag around it which has 68694 P4 X875 BS06. They are all a bit different but that's mainly in the electrics. But the brakes are the same. The reservoir is not listed as a separate item from the master cylinder which is 6MT9 2530-99-811-6988 Cylinder Assembly, Hydraulic Brake, Master, 7/8in dia bore, 1-7/16 max stroke, c/w push rod. Lucas 64068694, PMH124. Renaulds-Boughton BW208561. It also needs 6MT9 5340-99-811-6990 Cap, Protective, Dust & Moisture Seal, Rubber Friction type for 2-3/8 in OD Tube. Lucas 64476964, 68470060. Vauxhall 2690869. Terex 939384. Scammel ACU7667, AKU1123. Wordsworth Holdings SW721562. 6MT9 2530-99-811-6991 Boot, Dust & Moisture Seal, Synthetic Rubber, Convilute Type, 7/8 Min ID, 2-1/2 in Flange Dia, 2-1/16 LG. Lucas 64478356. Seddon Atkinson 6421651. I've spent a number of hours trawling through websites trying to source one and have 4 major parts services trying to match the part for me. Here are the piccys.. http://flic.kr/p/9HZ1Jz http://flic.kr/p/9J2Smh http://flic.kr/p/9HZ23x An an excerpt from the parts catalogue confirming the parts. I'm hoping that someone on here can help. :-D Cheers. Neil. Sankey master brake cylinder parts.pdf
ruxy
I think what you are getting at is that you have no wish to buy OEM at over £100. It is only what is known as a "remote" (the fluid is piped from a reservoir normally higher up on a bulkhead of a sportscar). There will be plenty around with alloy castings and mounting holes at 6 & 12 o'clock. However for strength - you need a cast iron cylinder (a good spurious is sufficient for a trailer). Somewhere I have a load of notes on this very subject bore dims. max. stroke , mtg. hole dia. & ctres. unfortunately just now unable to put my hands on them. As a preview lead in - I think this is what you need.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JAGUAR-E-TYPE-S-TYPE-MK10-420G-CLUTCH-MASTER-CYLINDER-/290563316424?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a6ec5ac8

Really appreciate it. I have no problems with buying an OEM item if I could just find one. As I'll be carrying quite a bit of weight and have a number of ideas for the expedition trailer, it's going to cost a couple of grand or more to build how I want it, so £100 will be money well spent. I just can't find the part. I've also seen this item on eBay which is similar, but currently the trailer is using 6mm pipe apparently (according to Mr brake man who is searching the planet for me) so I'd need probably to run a whole new braking system. If that suits, so be it. Would mean that I could get parts in the future eh?? eBay item: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320699500453&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_5540wt_1141 Only real issue I would have is that the braking system is fairly basic in design utilising the Bradley Hitch, but would probably mean making up a whole new mounting system and setting it up correctly. Would you like some more photos?? Any advice or suggestions are always greatly appreciated. Cheers. Neil. barrynevuk
Have you tried Graham Holding, he has lots of bits and pieces and it is the sort of item he may well have. I cannot find his number, I'm sure someone on here will have it.
ruxy
A good motor factor should be able to order a OEM TRW/Lucas/Girling , PMH 124 or LUC PMH 124 (Lucas) , don't think the number has been S/S yet again, since TRW took over..

The dims. could possibly be the same but for light sport cars & kit cars (at your own risk) , the cylinder casing is alloy , you need CI if you don't wish to have fragmentation.. whitey193
Thx again for the reply. I've had another suggestion of a Landrover series 3 clutch master cylinder but I'd have to change the pipework. What do you think?? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Land-Rover-Series-3-Defender-Clutch-Master-Cylinder-/250819805502?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a6606813e#ht_621wt_907 Again. ruxy
Get a look here for £12 + VAT http://shop.dingocroft.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fshop.dingocroft.co.uk%2facatalog%2fBodyParts.html&WD=trw&PN=Clutch_Hydraulics.html%23a90569126#a90569126 You do need CI casting - alloy will smash too easy. This casting is slightly different size but IIRC the banjo bolt & reservoir fit without thread change.. You don't need to use a remote because the Sankey does not use a remote. ------------ Body 130 Pushrod 80 Bore 7/8" (with all the remote types the 7/8" is less common bore..) Mounting centres 57mm (and they are at 6 & 12 o'clock) Can you check your bolt centres ? Somewhere I have all this in sketches & notes.. ==================== The problem is that the PMH 124 is metricated (8mm mounting bolts) , although IIRC the pipe threads are both 7/16" UNF (this is where I need all my notes).. The PMH 124 (64068694)was always rare as a remote because the big sports cars with single line (non-servo) had long gone or been uprated.. From memory - the one used on the Sankey is just the same as the 0.875" used on such as the Jaguar Mk.10 3.8 for braking,, This was the PMB111 (64967023) - the only difference being the flange threads are 5/16" UNF - you could just change the bolts from metric. IIRC the fluid threads remained at 7/16" UNF so no adapter required , but it would be no big deal to make up new pipe & fittings , at the very worst it is making a thread change adapter in a lathe or screw-cutting a new banjo bolt thread to suit.. The reservoir is no problem as they are available in imp. & metric but the 7/16" UNF is more common.. few years back - I worked out 2 or 3 ways at low coast but forget the best.. Yes - ISTR it was used on some Jag E types and the big Healey 3000

mjgringo
Just had a rummage and have found the boot dust/moisture seal thingy, ref 5340998116991, but no master cylinder I'm afraid. Send me a PM if you still want it. I also have a ton of other Sanky bits and bobs. Cheers Andrew
