gazzaw
Hi Having looked at previous similar threads (some from more than 2 years ago) are there any good recommended recovery services who really cater for military vehicles? Is Roadsure Recovery still going? I need the person (or our club members/drivers) covered and not the vehicle as I/we have more than one -(heaviest is 3 ton/ 3.048tonnes), or does any group have a club membership recovery card through AA/RAC/Green Flag etc? thoughts, comments please gary
oily
Try 'AUTOHOME' Classic Commercial Vehicle Rescue. it's who I use, and I can't fault them.... very reasonable rates too, here is a copy of their brochure.....
R Cubed
If that is your max weights of the vehicles you need covering try the RAC they cover up to 3.5 Tonnes, that is when I enquired about cover for my GMC and was told they only cover up to 3.5 Tonnes. john fox
yes but Autohome cover the vehicle, Gary wants cover for the person I am not aware of anyone who will offer "fleet" coverage for heavy vehicles (I'm with Autohome myself). Then again as stated since Gary's fleets falls into the below 3,500kg GVW then any of the domestic operations will do what he wants , especially for jeeps, AA RAC etc will have no issues with them other than their age From my own experience the RAC charges a £10 supplement for covering a "van" on my personal policy (this is how my 101 is covered), all my other stuff is over 3.5 t and therefore the likes of AA etc will not cover them and you are into the realms of cover on an individual named vehicle by vehicle basis, not personal cover Edited June 28, 2010 by john fox
mike65
It is also worth checking what other restrictions apply and not just weight. I remember reading of a length restriction in certain policies, but not width or height, although I rember my brother having a 6 hour wait for the AA to find a vehicle cable of fecovering his Chevy Blazer (ago was about 18 years ago). Width and height was the issue. Mike
gazzaw
Thanks Guys Yes we are deliberately keeping below the threshold for domestics (AA,RAC etc) and probably best to go with one who cover the person to allow all of our vehicles to be covered on a trip etc. Again nothing should be over the width limit - as stated by AA etc. Our last breakdown was for the chevy wrecker CMP C60L recovered by RAC on one of our members own cards and it seemed fine (although transporter guy thought it nearer 4 tons, but it is a 3 tonner lol). What I need to do is see if I can open up one for our group with it's name on the card and paid by standing order from the group bank account etc. I will report back on any findings and how it goes. goldfinger R.I.P.
Rac Truckcare, you are covered and you only pay for what you use.
john fox
Rac Truckcare, you are covered and you only pay for what you use. but covered for what? their set up is no different to carrying around a few recovery company phone numbers, when you have a call out it will cost you a lot of dosh, before i went to Autohome it once cost me £545 to be recovered on a Sunday. I am not a great fan of insurance based policies (and am utterely illogical over them eg: I have no household insurance at all as "it" will never happen :cool2: ) but that was 5 years premiums in one go, so I got recovery cover from the next day because "it" will (?) happen again! john fox
my policy covers me whatever vhicle I'm in, saracen or my car, or anyone els's I'm driving.... Interesting, what policy is that then, have things changed? A "standard" (define!) Autohome policy won't cover a car, will it, not exaclty a commercial vehicle within their policy definition? Certainly the policy I had from them which expired in May 2010 was very definitely for one vehicle only (my membership card had the vehicle reg printed on it)with a £1,000 max cover for all and any call out costs. They never did confirm (in writing) if that was per year or per call.

gas 44
Hi Just as an update (I know this thread is old but) Auto Home now cover the vehicle only and not the person. Still good value. Gary
Tony B
Greenflag will cover the person and any vehicle up to 3.5 tons. And no age limits on vehicle or call out limits.
Tony B
Back to the old problem. I've just renewed my insurance with Premium choice, gone up £1 thanks to the Goverment grasping tax, but I was told they now have a specialist military vehicle recovery they can offer. For vehicles in the 3.5 to 7.5 tonne range it's about £66 for over 7.5 £160, but you'll need to check exactly.
