  1. It's the real thing not a training aid, not helicopters, and no!
  2. OK guys, anyone know what this was used for, when and who by??
  3. Les, there is a photo of a Mack EXBX carrying a Valentine mk3 in North Africa on page 30 of 'Breakdown' and also a White Ruxtall with a similar load. I can scan them for you but they are rather small.
  4. Clive that is exactly the same weight as given for the RE one, the only other bit that may weigh more is the SCG gearbox. AFAIK the rest of the chassis and running gear is the same, or have I missed something? Nigel, the Crusader 5th wheel is almost exactly the same as the older ones and will be fine. The correct frame bolts to the top flange of the chassis and I can draw you a plan of what it looks like should you need to make one.
  5. The RE 6x6 with C6NFL, Scammell winch, 5th wheel, steel lockers, hydraulic pump etc weighed almost exactly 15 tons if that helps. The basic chassis and cab on yours is the same so as a bare chassis cab I would think about 13 tons. If you are arranging a low loader don't forget to tell them it is almost 9.5ft wide.
  6. Hope they remembered the bearnaise sauce...
  7. Checking a humidity indicator? If they are being stored in the open I would have expected the tyres to be protected from UV.
  8. Not quite, the 110 ton loco was taken to the Festival of Britain site using the same girders but with solid tyred bogies, the gun is being moved with the bogies and swan necks from the 200 ton trailer. Diamond T on the front and a Pacific pushing on it's first time out.
  9. The second one looks like a RE 35 ton 8tw with a 10 ton tilt bed recovery in the background.
  10. The Wynns trailer is a Cranes 200 tonner but fitted with girders made by Fairfields of Chepstow normally used for loco and railway work.
  11. How about a VLF tuning coil for a sub antenna?
  12. Hi Al, KG is 1988/9, you should be able to look up the exact date from one of the online sites.
  13. Is it something connected with early radio, possibly for a ship?
  14. Do the upper and lower parts stay in the same relative position? The casing looks very heavy duty, as though it needs to contain pressure or temperature.
  15. They were fitted to the 1500GT pre crossflow Fords of the 1960s giving about 75bhp. All the important bits are changeable including the choke sizes, but they can be prone to icing unless fitted to a heated manifold or fed with warm air in the winter. Being progressive they are fairly economical when used on the first stage.
  16. That's the one, painted to represent the livery during WW1 and resident at Didcot.
  17. Here is my old one Clive, 83BL02. Plenty more in the Constructor section.
  18. A 6 ton trailer is going to need air brakes and a GG is hydraulic as are most RLs.
  19. Blackbird, E.E Lightning, P47.
