  1. The Ford engine with the starting problem was the indirect injection York series available as a 2.4l 4 pot and 3.6l 6 pot for Transit and A series, it ran up to about 1984 before being replaced by the 2.5 DI with rotary fuel pump.
  2. I had an amusing incident with my dry sump C6 in a Constructor, a liner seal developed a leak and about a gallon of coolant ended up in the sump. On starting, the scavenge pump transferred the water to the oil tank with such force that it shot a jet of oily water about 10 feet upwards, fortunately the oil filler cap was spring loaded which acted as a safety valve. Moral of the story is to always check the oil and coolant levels before start up after standing for a while, the loss of water could have been due to a head gasket failure which may have filled a cylinder with coolant.
  3. Assuming he used a trailer (?) the max towing weight for a 56 plate L200 is just 2700kg which is almost exactly the kerb weight of the WC54, add a trailer at about 750kg and he is well over the safe limit. Hope it turns out OK but not looking good.
  4. Identical one on ebay some time ago that claimed to be a K9. https://www.google.com/search?q=k9+inlet+manifold&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjehpfU1aDgAhWRtXEKHZrNB5UQ_AUIDygC&biw=1584&bih=701
  5. I gather they were retired in 2015 so just 5 years of use.
  6. Correct John, it is a line type unloader valve. Mike
  7. Let me know if you get a repair kit and I can scan the relevant pages from the manual.
  8. Yes agreed, most of the brake parts now seem to come from Knorr Bremse. Incidentally 2878 shows as also being used by Bedford and Foden, possibly others. Retail on the complete valve assembly is something like £250.
  9. Yes, similar concept but note how much closer to the tractor the second fifth wheel is mounted.
  10. The Sankey 60 ton, Dyson 50 ton and the later Commander trailers all had 8 in line rear axles giving a total tyre count of 26. Needless to say, whenever there was a tyre problem it was always one of the inside ones.....
  11. Deathwing did stipulate forward but I agree gun rear would overhang. I have only driven an ex Berlin Brigade one for a few miles cross country but the extra top weight was very noticable.
  12. The repair kit for APSA 2878 is CLA7GA29209 and although Leyland DAF refer to it as Unloader Valve (Clayton Type) it appears to be a Wabco product. I have the manual here which gives 5 pages of overhaul instuctions and which suggest the valve should be binned or overhauled every 50k miles, twice every year for the average user! Mike
  13. The typical single and twin axle Jeep Dollies as used by heavy hauliers are used to supplement the tractor rear axles, not to be the main load carriers. As John has written, it could be that regulations in Australia require such a set up, perhaps Graeme knows the answer. Out of interest here are a couple of developement vehicles under test and an illustrated list of Contractor parts for Graeme to be getting on with. The rear bogie in all cases is the 30 ton version as opposed to the heavier 40 ton.
  14. Why the crazy twin trailer, the load bed is far too high and very little of the weight is placed over the tractor 5th wheel? Here is another one which I suspect you are familiar with:
  15. IIRC the barrel does not project beyond the basic silhouette of the 432
  16. Mabag AG still exist, you could send a mail to: info@mabag.ch
  17. That seemed to go well Rob, I have never used the winch on a Militant, do you have to carefully release the winch brake to lower the hook?
  18. IIRC the 6x6 was nominally rated at a 2.5 ton payload for off road, 5 tons on road while the 6x4 CCW was rated at 5 tons as it was not expected to be used off road.
  19. Rijeka had a prototype 8 cylinder torpedo motor back in 1902:
  20. What is the grand plan, put it back in to DBG or IRR??
  21. Don't buy them from the listing as four would be £3200😲 Also check the ply rating to ensure they are suitable for whatever you are using them on.
  22. Looks like it, also need a bit more than just welding.
  23. The front end and dumb irons look to be somewhat weak compared to the rest of the chassis, are the U bolts and plates an in service attempt to strengthen them?
