  1. Thanks for the feedback guys, the night certainly seemed to go down really well with everyone. They seem to have taken it in better than if we were speaking to them about the subject, in fact it was the quietest they've been on a pack night for a long time! :-D Scott
  2. I'm a Cub Scout leader at my local pack and after noticing that our pack night fell this year on the 6th June I felt that it was only right that we had a D-Day/WW2 themed evening. So I arranged for six members of the Staffordshire Regimental Association to come in and talk to the children about D-Day/WW2 and also their own experiences of serving their country. We were lucky enough to have one WW2 Veteran, 94-year-old George Parry, who was able to speak to the children vividly about landing in gliders at both Sicily and in Holland before being taken POW at Arnhem. It was a great evening and we finished it with a mock up of a street party to show the children what took place at the end of the War. It certainly seemed to go down well and we will be looking to do the same again in the future. Below are a few pictures. I hope this is of interest to some of you.
  3. Went across to the abovementioned show this afternoon. Not as many military machines in attendance as before but it was still a good afternoon out with it being a free to enter show and plenty of other attractions. Below are a few pictures of the military vehicles which were at the show.
  4. Are there any pictures of the vehicles that attend around as I'm sure the forum members like myself who couldn't attend would like to see them, cheers!
  5. This one isn't far from me as I saw the vehicle at the Chasewater Transport Show in April: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?23964-Chasewater-Transport-Show Also here is the history sheet which was attached to the front of the vehicle. Hopefully you can read it, sorry about the shadow it was a lovely sunny day! :-D
  6. Nice pics, thanks for posting. The one that loked lonely was at the Belvoir Castle show the other week as part of a group - Yorkshire American Cars (Yancs), a strange beast indeed!
  7. As promised here is a selection of photo's which I took at the event starting with some very nice Bedford MW's. More wartime: Post War: And the star of the show:
  8. Well just like the rest of the thread all I can say is well done to everyone involved with the Overlord Show for pulling something together a truly great event. This was the first time that I had ever been to the show and I had an excellent (and long) day out. The number of vehicles, re-enactors and stalls as well as arena displays were very good indeed and if anyone is thinking of attending next year I would say go for it! Good to meet up Rosie and R-Cubed, while I thought Mark (G506 I think Rosie said? lol) did an excellent job on the microphone in the arena. Just sorting through my pictures now as I've been away until now so will post a couple up later on to support the nice ones that have already been posted!
  9. I don't like to slag shows off as the organisers spend a lot of hard time and work in pulling these events together, but I must say I was really disappointed with Trucks & Troops. After a number of good reports and reviews in previous years we made the decision to attend this year, but I think it might also be the last time that we go. I think one thing that doesn't help it is it being located at Beaulieu, the facilities and room to put the show on are great but the show isn't helped by the fact that the public have to pay £16.75 to get in as you are paying for the whole Beaulieu experience whether you like it or not! Despite all of this there were a couple of vehicles of interest that I hadn't seen before and a few other nice examples along with some good re-enactors as well. I will post a few pictures up in a bit once I have sorted through them. To end it was good to meet up with Andy (LoggyDriver) again and I will see you in a few weeks at Wartime in the Vale .
  10. Heading home from Trucks & Troops we have just seen two Quads, minus their lumbers and 25 ponders, on the back of a lorry by Junction 11 of the M40. Don't know if it was broken down but the lorry was stopped on the hard shoulder. I presume that they are heading to the South Coast to sale for Normandy?
  11. Ah yes having looked at the picture again it does say that above the cab. Cheers though Mike!
  12. My dad has recently found some old pictures which he took and newspaper cuttings up the loft from the 1970's! Although the pictures are small hopefully they will be of interest. The first picture is one of Circus Hoffman's militant. The second picture shows two pics of Sir Robert Fossett's Circus militant's.
  13. Does anyone remember these two below? My dad has recently found some old pictures and newspaper cuttings up the loft from the 1970's! Hopefully they will be of interest. The first picture is of a Matador which was in the James Brothers Circus and dates from 1974. The second picture was an old postcard and you can just make out 68 on the Matador's number plate.
  14. Anyone got any pictures. I always like to see photo's from events that I can't get to. Cheers!
  15. Looking very nice. There looked like a good turnout of different vehicles at the show as well!
  16. We went up on the Sunday and had a cracking day out. Managed to have a quick chat with Steve (Jessie The Jeep), and it was nice to meet you again. There were once again a couple of different vehicles which I hadn't seen before and The Dakota experience was very good. Overall an enjoyable day out and a show I would recommened everyone to try at least once!
  17. I went across on the Sunday and there were certainly a number of different vehicles to what I had seen before on display. Sorry didn't get chance to say hello Mark, everytime I came by you seemed to be in deep conversation with someone about your excellent display. Hopefully this show can continue to grow as their is certainly enough room for it and with it being very local for me it was nice to only have to travel ten miles to an event like this A couple of vehicles which I hadn't seen before, anyone have anymore information about them?
  18. Hear Hear, happy St Georges Day everyone I hope it's been a good one. It is seemingly one day that can pass people bye but it should really be celebrated throughout England just like others are.
  19. What a find that is Martin. It looks in great condition really for its age, although saying that it has been inside for 36 years! Look forward to following the restoration.
  20. It's a nice one to open the season with actually, as it's only a few miles up the road for me. Although this year we couldn't take the Gipsy as the petrol tank is out again at the moment.
  21. Yes I'd say it's the same as this one as well, which has made an appearance at Dorset quite often over the years.
  22. And a couple of the commercial vehicles which stood out. The Morris Commercial started out in the military before being converted for coal carrying duties in the Hednesford area.
  23. A picture of said vehicle you can see here :-D, http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?23964-Chasewater-Transport-Show&p=257929#post257929
  24. A nice little season opener for me. There were a handful of military vehicles on display as well as a number of commercials, cars, motorbikes. This show always seems to have the weather on it's side and this year was no different with it being a cracking day and hopefully this is how the rest of the summer will pan out! Below are a few shots from the day:
