  1. Any manufacture dates on them? Hopefully a little clock face type moulding with Mickey Mouses big hand pointing to the year and his little hand pointing elsewhere.
  2. Was it Plain Military? http://plain-military.tripod.com/
  3. Hi Adam You've reminded me that I wanted to do something like this, CW, plain speach, all that contemporary to late '60's if I was being fussy but simply a selection of aural candy would suffice. Something to have playing on the Pinky A41 or 316 set. I did wonder whether to have something jokey as well in case I get trapped at a show by someone who knows their onions At the very least, a long script that can be spoken as different people into a mic, saved as MP3 and given out would be nice. I might just do it this time instead of leaving it yet another year.
  4. After a long run home from Beltring, I need some of that creeping crack cure.
  5. That muzzle brake looks like it'll fire round corners then
  6. Wasn't the mowing deck fitted to the front for the Dandelion AP mines?
  7. Hi Clive Have you got a spare tank that can go in it's place while you wait? How does it leak with only half a tank or less in. Not ideal but something to think about when not in use, condensation might be a worse long term issue though with empty tanks. I've never had any joy with fixing such a leak by applying anything to the outside. Then again, I've not had a leak as minor as the one you describe. I wonder if there is a product that seeks into the crack, a bit like the penetrating dyes for crack testing? One that will draw in via capillary action but possibly sets if it is a two part mix? I've heard good things about the liquid sealant to slosh around the inside, can you not put a temp bung in place of the drain and then drill and tap with a thread cleaner so the drain plug threads into it? It looks like there might be a better chance of having something seek it out from the inside, rather that try to get a good grease free key to the surfaces on the outside. I'd guess that the inside of the tank is clean around the are of the crack, perhaps apply several thin layers to build up? Can you not fill the tank with water or aspirate with a CO2 bottle and try to sweat some solder in or chemically clean it and have another go at brazing? Been Googling for crack penetrating and cleaning/adhesive stuff, would have thought someone would have had it by now.
  8. Either the aforementioned Jeep or a flatbed or truck with a full tilt and benches that can be pressed into service? How about a waggon and no horses?
  9. Looking at the wheels on it, I think the chavs have already had the good spoked set away
  10. Thanks for the input on the ground conditions. I went to a Land Rover show at Langley Farm some years back and, until then, I hadn't considered myself bothered whether it got muddy or not, after all, it's a 4X4, what could be the problem. It took an hour to get the clagg levered out from chassis rails, underseat fuel tanks and outriggers, and this from just driving into the parking area. If I'd done the offroad run I could have gone through the water at the end Think I'll trundle along to the Andrew Greenwood vehicle show at Ripley Castle on Monday, call in at the Ripley Ice Cream hut on the way home.
  11. Fair comment, not the way I see it though. I've often said that I'd like to see a vehicle with the minimum of CES on it at a show, instead of being luvved up at the surplus shop. You could always turn up with just the wingtop mounts, nothing else fitted, or go for the stripped down look. Agree with the importance of single marque clubs that do the remanufacturing thing. Another thought about clubs, not directed at you agripper, my input to the thread. Regardless of which ones we are in, we aren't isolationist, we meet up at the larger interest shows, people see our vehicles, collections, pride and joy, re-enactment displays, historical studies and chat to owners, frequent their forums and so on. Is it not achieving a useful result? It's more of a movement IMHO, the clubs themselves are furnishing the individual tastes, either through established regimes maturing and not being narrow minded, or by being selective and focussing. Surprised myself by coming out with that one, I must be slipping in my old age.
  12. Still Googling for it in case one turns up. following one lead to a thread on ARRSE about the very same thing. Not starting with the SLR but general memories about toy weapons we had as kids and the FN features but the Johnny Seven wins. Vaguely remember the Johnny Seven, but it was make believe, having something real but in small scale was much better. And if you didn't, then might as well use a stick. Then this turns up on the thread, Stick Guns, brilliant:
  13. I'm trying to work out what you've just said, you think that your Lightweight isn't good enough as it doesn't have all the radio kit on it?
  14. I'm trying the number for the military section to see if I can get the Pinkie in, no answer.
  15. Wouldn't that be skip...skip...skip...skip...bump,
  16. It was second hand when I got it. Gaffa tape was keeping most of it together by the end. That might have given inspiration for its replacement.
  17. Evening all At a loss where to throw this one in so Wepaons it is. Many years ago, aged 9 I think, I had a toy SLR. Now, Dad was a Rockape and ex-QCS so to have a scale version of an SLR was pretty cool. I've got de-acs on the Pinkie now but somehow, back then, that brittle black plastic SLR was even cooler. I take my youngest with me to shows, Jack is now 9 and wants 2 things to take to Eastnor, first is the toy SLR, the other is a ghillie suit. The ghillie suit is the easiest to do, albeit time consuming (it's a brilliant premise, do you want to know how to get a kid that age to behave, be quiet and keep still? Get him into the toy sniping thing, building a bivvy, cams it up, pair of old binos, compo and a flask of screech and the hours just fly by. I'm just sorry he won't experience the joy that was cheese possessed.) I'm expecting to pay Top Dorrar for one of these since collecting tacky toys has become mainstream but has anyone here still got theirs? What do you mean you never had one, you'll tell me you never had Super Flight Deck next. Look, I lost mine in an MFO box somewhere between Wickrath and Catterick OK.
  18. Don't suppose youhave the contract plate still on the vehicle? I'm copying out the second part of article from John Mastrangelo on the Rover Mk4 for the EMLRA Newsletter and there is some info here that might be interesting to you as long as we can identify the vehicle, as would photo's of yours be to the article and John I hope. All the best Wayne
  19. Hi Mike

Just got round to looking at the Land Rover gallery and saw the 2 with armour in place of doors. Can you tell me more about them, I'd like to use the pics in the EMLRA newsletter if I could get an article together on them.

    All the best

  20. Don't suppose there is anyone going down from Yorkshire anytime after work on Friday, back before Monday morning Will contribute costs etc. Can lend some GPMG's for a display if it helps. Would like to see this one but don't have the transport down there this time.
  21. Cheers for that Fellas, it's a hard life having to look after and play with someone elses toys but I'm managing Really need to get more stuff on the road though, but it's been fun with just the 2 Land Rovers and motorbikes so far. Might need to get a car transporter next, or Chinook.
  22. I've lurked here for a while now and felt I'd left it a little late to introduce myself, so I didn't, wish I had, but there you go. There was a recent thread here about such silent lurkers that made me think twice, so here I finally am, saying hello. To be honest, and I think it was mentioned in the thread, I guess I am in awe of some, many even, of the regulars here. I haven't got much to contribute but a lot to read, and I don't think that muliple posts of "hear, hear", "nice stencilling" or "I agree" etc will help a thread anyway. What have I got, well a Rover 10 (SWB SIIa) and a Rover 11 (LWB SIIa), Sankey trailer, Can-Am Bombardier and a sexy prototype Hossack Armstrong MT500 with single sided front fork that really should be on the road and not in the shed, well, several sheds. That little lot is mine but I don't get to play with them much as I much prefer looking after this little lot: I'm also custodian of 2 Pink Panthers, 3 Commanders Carawagons, a LHD demonstrator V8 FFR 90, Armstrong MT500 frame number 1, Armstrong electric start MT560 frame number 1, SAS KTM350 (looney), military KTM LC4 640 (even loonier), several Sankey widetracks, enough de-acs to furnish the Pinkies, tentage to cover the lot. I have an understanding wife and family, something that I'm sure many who aren't involved in this scene wonder about. I brought the neighbours together as well. always looking for drivers and/or riders for shows, I can only take one out at a time. Who knows, then I'd get more on the road. So I'll go back to dropping by once in a while and checking the new forum posts, if that's OK As it happens, now I'm warming up, I'm getting the vehicle ready for Elvington this weekend. Changed my mind earlier this week, wasn't going to go, but I miss the rain and hail. If anyone here wanders past a pink Land Rover, say hello, don't leave it 3 and a half years like I did I read on Pprune that the BBMF Lanc is stuck at Schiphol for maintenance and an engine. The Luftwaffe flew out a Merlin from England. hoping it makes it in time. All the best
  23. "Now what was the point of this posting..." Proof that it takes about this long for you to get to the top of your stairs. Hey, don't knock it, I'm forgetting half way up these days. Can't wait for the new Rocket Assisted Stannah Stairlift to be installed, supposed to get you upstairs before you forget what you were going up for. Cauliflower for tea tonight....
