  1. When I had the cloverleafs taken off our WC54 about 6 years ago I drove up to our local ats euromaster truck tyre place and they had everything done in less than an hour and only charged me £30 so I left them with a bit of beer money as a thanks, I'd be surprised if there wasn't something similar near to you?
  2. Very nice pictures, got anymore as we couldn't make it so want to make myself even more jealous of what you all saw
  3. Absolutely amazing pictures with such an fantastic depth of colour those pictures will definately appear in a few books. Thanks for finding this I have seen a comparable video of two M16 halftracks being used in paris to deal with a sniper and the weight of fire that is used is scary
  4. No it was just a quick fix that the owner came up with prior to the show, it looks well though and I'm sure similar things were done in wartime. Thanks to everyone who took pictures of our little enclave with the ambulance and halftrack, if its ok can I borrow them as my camera has had a problem and none of my pics have come out?
  5. Welcome we took the WC54 and jeep to Debach a few years ago and was amazed at how well presented the remaining buildings were
  6. Not wanting to cause more trouble but in the air display environment all pilots have to be approved prior to displaying in front of the public, Marmite was asking who checked out the crew were capable of displaying on the water and the same questions were asked at the weekend, has it ever been suggested that before a vehicle enters a public arena it has been seen by the organisers and deemed 'responsible/suitable' for display?

    DO 17 raising

I'm glad they got it out in less pieces than I thought they would but why are they saying the engines are intact when they aren't fitted all I can see are the engine bearers on the end of the nacelles? Will look forward to seeing how much else they get up and how well the conservation goes.

    DO 17 raising

I know what you mean Steve but 73 years have gone by maybe another month may not hurt? I really am looking forward to seeing whatever they are able to lift.

    DO 17 raising

There hasn't been a complete Dornier 17 for 60 years let alone one in airworthy trim, I admit i'm a little concerned at how the lift has now decended into "well we're here and we've got this far so lets drag it up anyway and see what we are left with", once the plan with the lifting frame was abandoned I wish they had decided to stop and revisit it when time and conditions allowed. I really hope it comes out ok but have seen too many rushed jobs recently to not be a little cynical.
  10. Aircraft engineer at Thomson airways for 14 years after doing my apprenticeship there while it was Britannia and been volunteering at the shuttleworth collection on the vintage aircraft, tractors and cars for the last 17 years, just realised I've been volunteering for over half my life! Great idea for a thread very interesting Steve
  11. Might look like a drawnout process but now they have the tooling made it its all pretty quick and those rivets look the part, just wondering how many forms of reaction arms for the squeezers they went through before they settled on that monster design. Well done.
  12. At least they had wooden props as this will have reduced the chance of engine damage compared to metal ones, hopefully not too much work before It's back where it belongs.
  13. Got to be gutting for the owners, Rolls-Royce, as its only a few weeks out of a 2 year refurb at duxford. Hope its not too bad, at least the pilot is ok
  14. On another forum it's been stated there is a good length of concrete runway still available to use so should work out ok for it being based at home.
  15. Seemed to be a good success so plan to avoid loved ones between Christmas and new years for the next one
  16. Here are a few piccies from our open day which was well attended and dry if a tad windy All day the Bofors was available for children(and adults) to try their hands at and even though it's a bit of a H & S knightmare no one got hurt and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
  17. You can change your address on your driving license online now using the government's site and that way you shouldn't loose any entitlements takes a bit of setting up but would make it easier for future bits, does mean 'they' have all your info which worries a few people. Not sure if you can do it easily from a paper one though.
  18. Hi if anyone is fed up with the relatives and wants a get away on Sunday the engineers and volunteers from the Shuttleworth Collection are opening up the aircraft workshops so you can get behind the scenes and find out what is involved in keeping these unique aircraft in the air. There will hopefully be a display outside the hangars (weather permitting) with a few aircraft out with the vintage tractors and ex War Dept traction engine and our 1903 deDetrich racer restoration and we'll be bringing our Dodge WC54 and hopefully the family's halftrack along. We are hoping to run the 1909 bleriot and convince the Storch owner to fly as well. More details here http://www.shuttleworth.org/tickets/event-details.asp?ID=211 Also the Swiss gardens will be open if you need a distraction for the other half and as it's having a large renovation from January onwards for 14 months so it'll be the last chance to see them as they are for a while.(and there is a large childrens play area on site as well) Hope to see some of you there Steve
  19. Welcome to the forum, one of the regular visitors to us at the Shuttleworth collection was a Centurion driver and recently bought in his notes, really interesting stuff. Hope you enjoy being here. Steve
  20. Grumman F7F Tigercat with an ugly radar nose
  21. If you let us know when you are coming over we may have our ex 310 (czech) sqn spitfire back in one piece at shuttleworth, might make a nice backdrop.
  22. Congratulations on the camper body build it looks really neat, hope you get many years of use from it.
