  1. Our first Vintage vehicle day went off in the best possible way with around 400 bikes and other vehicles in attendance including a nice military contingant and the best weather of the year, still a little bit lobster! Anyway here are some pics, more to follow. It was also the first showing of our newest Military vehicle a 1944 Trusty Tractor previously used on a RAF base near Bath, here is a picture of my sister taking it out for a ride, hopefully will look good with my sister and my Fiance in Womens Land Army gear.
  2. Great pictures Clive that was a really interesting weekend not sure Sarah was too keen getting on the top of the thresher though, but she tells everyone she speaks to about it so thanks for the opportunity. She still has Andrea's contact details so hopefully can catch up at least at Beltring. Cheers Steve
  3. My Fiance joined in with Nell's Belles at a couple of shows last year with some uniform she picked up from one of the other Belles' husbands who runs a company called 'stand up, hook up 1941' Dennis' WLA stuff was spot on so that could be a source if anyone needs any? Here is a pic of my fiance driving a 1919 austin tractor I renovated a few years ago for Shuttleworth in her WLA garb.
  4. Just a quick bump in case anyone wants to come and have a look, at last count around 400 vehicles had pre-registered and with good weather expected it could be good fun.
  5. When we went over to Normandy with the jeep for the 60th anniversary celebrations we sailed into Dieppe and had to have a good look around, every where we looked we could see some sort of fortification, the troops who got pinned down there had no chance what so ever, very brave men. Great pictures by the way
  6. I've learnt something new I had always believed they were all 12 volts just shows everyday's a school day. Thankyou for all your help I think I'd better start cleaning all the connections up, what is best for reprotecting the electrical connections I have access to various water dispelling sprays like LPS3 or AV25 through work.
  7. Looks like a fantastic job hope you have a great time with her.
  8. Yep original 6 volt system why oh why did dodge make 51/52's 12v and 54's 6v. We've had starting issues with our uncle's GPW all last year which we are hoping will be cured by a new battery as well, but we converted that to 12 volts when we rebuilt her from burnt out.
  9. Thank god someone else started this thread I thought I had been seeing things. Was over the in-laws on sunday when the report came on the bbc and I stood there with mouth open saying I thought those things were as rare as hens teeth, obviously wrong. Was good to see a good number of historics in the parade.
  10. Thanks for the advice, fuel was getting to the cab by hand pump so put half a cup of fuel in the carb and off she went, why does unleaded go off so fast? Cheers Commander now just the jeep to sort out over the weekend, its all fun
  11. Ok the plugs were not wet when i checked yesterday but they did smell of fuel. I'll try a little bit of fuel in the carb if I can get there today and see how I get on. Thanks
  12. Probably an easy one but I have put a new battery on our WC54 after inadvertantly leaving the blackout lights on  and now the motor turns over, we have a good spark from the plugs and recent fuel in the tank and it will not fire, any ideas? I'm stumped and don't want to kill the new battery already!

Yep those are the ones, 001 is a pre-production/prototype with electric start:) when it works :-(, the other is a regular PT-22 and they are both privately owned but based at The Shuttleworth Collection and put on a good pairs routine. P.s. Good pics

Very nice, just spent the weekend starting two of these and a magister while the pilots were doing formation practice training. Lovely sound.
  16. We had this happen to our jeep a few years ago, someone firebombed the unit next to my uncles workshop where we had just finished restoring the jeep (literally he put the tilt up and left at 11, was called back by 3) I know that jeep parts are more easily available but burnt out doesn't mean lost. Jeep won best jeep in show at W&P two years later. Sympathy with all involved just glad no-one was hurt.
  17. I've been asked by the trustee's of the Shuttleworth Collection to post this up and ask for your help to make the day even more impressive for the visitors. The Shuttleworth Collection is holding a special air display on the 6th June 2010 commemorating D-Day. Pre-booked military vehicles and drivers get in for free. Standard Adult admission £25. Children (up to age 16) FREE. For more information and to pre-book your vehicle visit our website www.shuttleworth.org, e-mail collection@shuttleworth.org or telephone 01767 627927 The Shuttleworth Collection Old Warden Aerodrome Nr. Biggleswade Beds. SG18 9EP Some of you have been to the collection before and know what a unique site it is with airworthy edwardian era aircraft mixing with some of the heavier metal of the second world war. We have a selection of homebased ww2 vehicles, including my family's GPW, WC54, and the Collection's WOT 2, BSA M20's and we are aiming to have a gathering of other military vehicles to supplement the air display. It is hoped that as part of the display we will have a Dakota landing on, this will be the largest aircraft we have had on the ground at one of our shows and should look bloody impressive on our small grass airfield. Hope to see many of you there, any questions feel free to ask.
  18. The damage doesn't look too bad, pretty simple frame and stringer repairs with not bad access but trying to either get replacement frame sections or repair angles manufactured and fitted will be the expensive bit, not to mention chuffing cold doing the repair outside at the moment. Good luck to the restore-ers but its a shame it will slow them down on restoring the rest of the airframe. Great pics by the way.
  19. Goldfinger, I have been going to Beltring for several years now and this year I could not fault the NLBA's behaviour compared to previous years, we camp halfway down the field near the water tower and we didn't get any disturbance apart from the cadets who camped next to us, and that was resolved by simply talking to them and advising them that generators after 11 isn't a good idea. I think in general everybodies behaviour was a lot better, with far less kids tearing about on scooters but I think this is due to a lot of the kids actually being more grown up and the price of fuel rather than control being put on them.
  20. Ok thanks Adrian I thought that was the case but thought it better to ask first
  21. A question I've been asked and I can't give a definate answer. I've seen several shermans running with rubber track pads on this forum and have also seen a lot of war time tanks with the metal pads on is this a easy swap over? Cheers Steve
  22. Hwade if this engine is any use for you as a spare or doner, its yours or if anyone else wants it let me know, I can't make use of it at the minute and it's too nice to have laying around.
  23. Ok no probs just let me know when you intend to come down Steve
  24. Hello Steve the Jeep looks fantastic, sorry we couldn't get you live side at the show yesterday i'm sure Peter will tell you what sort of show you missed. Hopefuully see you about at some shows soon. Steve
