  1. Think the only difference is the position of the gear linkage. Can be swapped over by changing the selector levers when you open the top of the box. Usual problem with LT77 is wear on the end of the main shaft into transfer box gear. The splines eventually wear due to lack of lubrication and fail. New mainshaft is required and full box strip down. Fit a modified oil thrower washer onto the shaft to prevent re-occurance. Steve Parker Land Rovers used to sell them.
  2. Are they likely to be of any use to commercial recovery contractors when they come out of service? I believe the previous Fodens were of no use iun civilian life due to insufficient weight capacity. If they don't get a good few commercial second users will enough survive later on and depreciate down to reasonable hobby budgets.
  3. I managed to pick up a disc braked one for less than a hundered quid at Whitham's auction. You've just got to go and have a look what's what amongst all the others. Some are trash some are fine. Not sure about the legality of hydraulic overun brakes. Thought I saw in a post somewhere else on here that said they weren't approved for road use. Would'nt have worried the military of course but may be an issue for second users.
  4. If you can't wait twenty years and you've got money burning a hole in your pocket....? http://www.ljacksonandco.com/ljdbase/General_list.php?pagesize=30&a=search&value=1&SearchFor=recovery+trucks&SearchOption=Contains&SearchField=Category Just the slightly older and less streamlined version.
  5. Here's the correct link. http://www.chippingsteamfair.co.uk/
  6. It wasn't in the best condition. I thought the £2750 highest bid was more than reasonable.
  7. It can still be registered as private HGV if it's only carrying your load and not for hire or reward. Don't see that it makes any difference as either way you'll need a class C licence to drive it. I guess you've already got that to be driving your Stalwart on the road.
  8. A set went on ebay a few weeks back for about £450 I seem to recall. Not much use now I know, but they are about.
  9. Going to need another 9 inch or two when it comes to chopping that rear end about. My friend has done a few at his workshop some as tilt and slides with a spec' lift and some as double deck recovery. Makes it look quite easy as he's done it before and got all the right gear. Good Luck.
  10. Looks like it needed a lot of extra cooling around the engine, holes in the bonnet side panels. No radiator visible up front so I'm guessing it's got a Deutz air cooled diesel in there. Flaring at rear could be a result of the old petrol lump going pop and exiting to the rear, taking the original bulkhaed and cab with it.
  11. Not ALL 2 pack paints are the nasty isocyanate stuff. I used some on the 101 chassis that was safe just used a normal canister respirator and sprayed it outside. Check out with your supplier what type it is before condemning it! You can also pick up decent respirator that'll do the job off ebay for not too much money. Just make sure it's the right type.
  12. Dam; Ferret fixer beat me to it. As regards 5, aren't there standard electrical sockets on the dash for pin plugs? It's quite easy to feed off the back of them with ring terminals. They're good for quite a high load as well. Obviously they're isloated by the battery and not permanent live so you'll lose station presets. If that's a issue then you'll have to go off the isolator.
  13. Answer to number 4; If red is showing on the rod outside the master cylinder brakes need adjusting.
  14. Not all three obviously unless you're getting a trailer as well. Has it got sufficient weight and length capacity for two vehicles on board at once?
  15. I was wondering about that Camo pattern. I've never seen anything like it before.
  16. 30MPH or thought you said it went like ...? Nice and easy to tweak the pumps on TDis then readjust them for the MOT. Never got round to messing with my TD5 disco before the injector wiring loom got oily and I fell out with it.
  17. We went on Saturday, fantastic weather then a well, made for a great show. Can't believe anyone struggled to find it. There were masses of large direction boards coming from Chorley. They must have spent a fortune and a lot of time posting them up. Anyway here's a few more photo's
  18. Isn't that where most old ships get taken apart these days?
  19. I'd have said all that needle gunning and wirebrushing is quite challenging, considering the standards you've got it to! I've copped out and gone for the blasting option, much quicker but probably more messy and I'm stuck with working outside. I've also not gone to the lengths of stripping leaf springs down. I'm working in someone elses yard and time is somewhat limited. I've got nothing but admiration for you and your fathers dedication and thorough approach!
  20. Just a craft and country shopping fair. There were a few fair ground rides about and this Scammel was powering one of them. Albeit with a remote generator in the trailer behind, rather than the on board engines.
  21. That's my boy! Taking an interest already and not just two yet. He's even more interested in tractors at the moment though.
  22. Not sure if this one has been posted before. Saw this beauty today at Tatten Park Cheshire. Can't be many Explorers with two Gardner engines and a Power Plus!
  23. Find a bit extra and get a HD one! Makes the world of difference. We got a Sony digital Christmas before last. Just before it was 12 months old the hard drive became faulty. Took it back to Comet. It was sent away for repair. Came back with the same fault. I complained to the store manager and got the original value of the camera as part ex against a new model. I added £30 extra to get the cheapest Sony HD available. The difference in image quality is amazing!
  24. Just looking at the BBMF, looks like Saturday is the only flypast day this year. Good news is it's the Spitfire, Hurricane, Lancaster combination. :-)
