  4. To day some of the Dorset MVT took to the roads for the final road run of the year. Though it was chilly the sun shone on the journey out to The Fox at Anstey. The return trip was somewhat chillier as the sun had disappeared and i confess i was glad to get home. There was a strange chap dressed in Red don`t know where he came from :shake: not sure if he was smiling in one photo or just had wind ?? Good fun, good drive, good company what else can you ask for roll on 2009 and best wishes to all. Ashley

  12. "I am sure you`ll be there Andy"(me as well):shake::shake: Ashley Enigma, i am checking the pistachio index in the F.T daily but prices have really risen lately due to the high consumption in the Netherlands
  13. I wouldn`t agree with this really as they had the volkswagen type 82(though only a two wheel drive 1300cc engined) vehicle and also the Opel (Blitz/ maultier) which i belive was the base vehicle for many more roles than the GMC...JUST MY THOUGHTS. Ashley
  14. The trouble is after the failed attack on Russia where the German forces litrally bled to death on a massive scale they lost the will to fight really and with the inclusion of many forign troops in the forces the few fanatical die hards 1943 onwards would not be enough for final victory. Ashley
  15. Hi Clive, for a vehicle though not large and the trailer is probaly capable of carrying the weight, hard to explain...there is a lot of mass (side of vehicle) at a fairly high point above the center of gravity of the trailer which i think heightened the `snaking` feeling/activity maybe a trailer with wheels on the outside would give you more stability or refrain from overtaking :-D Ashley
  16. If you goto the DISG web site there is some super film clips of the vehicles on various rally`s both land and waterborne. There is rather excellent footage of approx 10 schwimmers on water on the Weser canal if i remember correctly Ashley

  18. somewhere i remember seeing a dingo in German hands in N afrika named `Wurzel` in a book.Ishall have to try and track it down. Ashley
  19. As far as i understand German equipment (vehicles) were very "over engineered" and complex in their design, it is also known (as found at the Falaise gap) they still relied an large resources of horse drawn equipment wagons, artillery pieces etc . But as history has shown i believe they would have still been defeated due to the lack of..............fuel resources as befell the panzers etc at Normandy. Ashley
  20. We used to get them direct from the cook house some times by fair means and some times by foul means. We used to in those days climb in to centurions/trucks/land rovers parked in Bhurphore ? barracks and remove all sundry of items including one day lots of (read several go-cart loads) of compo rations which fed the family for several months :shake: and i still have memories of one year when dad returned from East Africa to find the coal shed full with box`s of rations which he buried in the back garden one night due to a M.Q. inspection which was imminent  Happy days
  21. are you trying to tell me somthing ??? Nutty Ash

  24. Well as mentioned be for i always had an interest in modern German Military history (1900 -1945) once being a collector of anything and every thing. A lot of subsections of the hobby have been dropped as prices rose and i sold my cloth badge collection to purchase the jeep, but have still kept the interest alive through helmets(now too expensive and well faked but i have kept them all) and Iron crosses just managing to hang in there with these. A few pictures
