  1. I received a Book for Christmas Ken Burns "the War" in it I ve just come across an item about V-Mail While I had heard of it and knew some of its details i did not know its volume heres what it says In the spring of 1942 , the military began encouraging Americans to use v-mail, a simple but ingenious space saving system devised by the British -who called their version airgraph, letters were addressed and written on a special one sided form ,sent to Washington where they were opened and read by army censors who blacked out anything they thought might give useful information to the enemy , then photographed onto a reel of 16-millimeter microfilm. The reels-each containing some 18,000 letters -were then flown overseas to receiving stations. There.each letter was printed onto a sheet of 4 1/4-by5-inch photographic paper, slipped into an envelope, and bagged for delivery to the front. A single mail sack could hold 150,000 one-page letters that would otherwise have required thirty-seven sacks and weighed 2,575 pounds.Between June 15,1942 (when the first v-mail station began operation in North Africa), and the end of the war, anxious families sent more than 556 million pieces of v-mail to their sons overseas- and received some 510 million in return. Quite a feat I must give it a read in depth soon, as I m just skimming it for photo's and the personal stories at the moment . I did see part of it when it was on TV but not all of it I m very sorry to say !
  2. Turning Circles???? Not a problem All Set there , as nothing here thats on wheels thats a 3 axle or more HE mans truck turns all that well as you know .so with things like my 1945 CCKW 353 with a radius of 35' and a 70' circle not exactly tight and a couple of other's with WLF's and not to forget the Antars or the Scamel's the turns are well layed out to give lots of room.Just as long as you keep the speeds reasonable , mind the jeep tires they use for speed bumps

  10. Given the climate they were in I m sure it baked right on and dried completely with no smell in a very short period of time ...seeing as it was 100 percent sunshine and 100 degree f plus or better everyday . And that the crews and soldiers were not smelling all that good either as they had few chances to bath as well ......just imagine what the inside of those tanks had to be like :shake: :schocked:
  11. May EveryOne have a Prosperous , Safe and Very Happy New Year . Looking foreward to a Lot of new Photo's and clips on HVMFTV of all the shows , travels and new found Vehicles both seen and purchased!!!
  12. Was the purpose of the 432 originally used as an APC and then with the turret to be used as an armed reconnaissance ?
  13. also you will see all manner of track sections and logs , sandbags, even cement were added to the outside of the tank mainly on the front Glacis plate to try and add just anything to slow or stop enemy rounds from penetrating their own tank , of course it didn't work but made the crews feel better thinking they had a chance . Most of the time it caused more problems in over working the suspension and slowing down their own tank .
  14. As far as I know that would be all the personal effects of the crew both spare clothing as well as their rations , sleeping bags and shelter ...as in canvas tent etc. since there was almost no storage for things like that inside the tanks or other armoured vehicles. I stand to be corrected
