  7. The machining from solid is likely the best way to , there can be porisity with castings or other faults . In the first photo there appears to be a bit of brass on the other side of the housing ? or am I wrong , I was thinking it to be a grease cup but it did not show on the mounted and finished assembly ?
  8. Really bad news on the T.V. over here this morning I just hear that the "Experts " expect a barrel of oil to hit $200.00 by the end of next year , but i think it could happen much sooner and at least for Us in the U.S.A. to be paying $7.00 per gallon while thats nothing compared to what you over there are already paying it will be a huge hit for Us. I have no idea what that will do to your pump prices......could it be in the $15.00 to $20.00 dollar per gallon range ???
  9. a nice shot of a GMC doing a bit of gentle off roading

  10. Goverment bought only a small number , Army types felt a gun like that would be wasteful of ammo so stayed with single round rifles for a long time afterwards , I think that mind set last until at least the Spanish American War or perhaps just before the Great war at that time they did purchase the BAR and the Browning 30 and 50 cal. machine guns
  11. I think hes pulling your leg about the Dodge disappearing into the marsh .
  12. In post 32 I beleive the rifle is a "Henry" the first multi round self loading gun held 16 rounds in the magazine under the barrel it was said You loaded it on sunday and fired all week long . compared with the then single round at a time rifles of the time .dates to 1864 period
  13.:shake: Now thats HEAVY , must have taken a bit of route planning to avoid having to go to all that work more than once or twice !! I can't imagine what hills would be like going up taking forever , and or a helper truck pushing or going down again with a helper truck to avoid wearing out the brakes on only a couple of decents!!
  14. N.O.S. what's the estimated weight on that genset? I can understand it being on a three axle truck but it seems unless the rear tires were a bit low on air pressure to be putting quite a burden on that poor rear axle ?
  15. Thank You , Nice to see what you were all talking about .
  16. found this film on combat engineers in the Pacific , North Africa and Italy http://www.realmilitaryflix.com/public/740.cfm a few Dodges, Cats, GMC's and CMP's of course Jeeps. another film of the Burma Ledo road a few nice shots of Cats http://www.realmilitaryflix.com/public/735.cfm last film has a few Diamond T's and GMC's oh and WLF's most interesting are scenes of a Military Engine rebuilding program to keep the trucks operating http://www.realmilitaryflix.com/public/477.cfm
  17. What ever became of this interesting device and all the ideas of putting it to use ? (could some one correct the link or repost the photo)
  18. another clip of Vehicles on rails

  19. The other condition's to be thought about might be the speed it was operated at , that while loaded it was intended to move slowly of course and when un-loaded only a little bit faster and the other would be duration as in distance and time it was operated at those speeds??
  20. Very impressive dents , pardon the choice of words , shows what 50 plus years of use can do. Just thing how smooth and improved the handling and feel will be once the front end is back up to spec's !!!!
  21. Can you give a brief run through on the functions of the levers on the WLF winching system ? When you need to put down the stabiliziers , And how important it is to have another helper to guide the operator as he has a limited view from his platform .
  22. You might find the film the Pig was in on this site http://www.imcdb.org/?PHPSESSID=f0d63901e7f23b7c8543f48aa204a20c it is a data base of hundreds of movies and the Vehicles of all types that appeared in them
  23. No need to explain about the low speed as I m sure with the solid tires and very stiff suspention along with less than tight steering that those speeds are quite a handful on good roads and if the surface was loose gravel or had a few good pot holes than you would feel more inclinded to travel at a far slower speed .
  24. Life goes on , CCKW still in the shop , no progress really yet . Fuel still going up here nothing like your costs but a shock to us 3.92 per gal. gas 4.75 pe gal. diesel , locally. Experts say this will e the first Memorial Day holiday may 26 that people will be driving marketly less than some number of years dont recall how many .
