  1. Willy, I went with Roy to Belgium on Wednesday, and at the end of the day we called to collect the two radiators (for Roy and Tootallmike) from Pierre, as arranged by you and Mike. Roy asks me say "Merci beaucoup" to both you and Pierre for arranging to get these to where we could collect easily - it was much appreciated  Viva l'Autocar!
  2. Well it's arrived (pretty much as per Ruxy's post 53 above). CIE and MID. Not sure it's a big deal for those older vehicles previously registered with a log book but perhaps 'parked up' for donkeys years - suppose it depends whether they've been insured in the recent past which might have resulted in them being put on the MID (see below). (edit - Ruxy's post above clarifies the situation re. pre-SORN vehicles) The new laws on Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) will start being enforced from 20th June 2011 when the first Insurance Advisory Letters are expected to be issued. It is now illegal to own a vehicle without insurance unless a SORN is in place. The regulations require you to give notice of vehicles to be insured 'immediately'. Following comparison of the MID and DVLA records, registered keepers suspected to be without insurance will receive a letter and given the following options: contact their insurance provider to ensure registration on the MID is accurate update their DVLA record declare vehicle SORN (statutory off road notice) buy insurance. Enforcement will only follow if the keeper fails to comply with one of the above and will result in: an initial fixed penalty fine of £100 their vehicle being clamped, seized and disposed of possible court prosecution which carries a maximum fine of £1000. Key points for you to consider Please ensure you are aware of CIE and understand their legal requirements. The new law and additional information can be found at www.direct.gov.uk/stayinsured It is important that we are notified of vehicles to be removed (e.g. when sold) as well as new vehicles to be insured in order that your vehicles appear on the MID Registered keepers can check if their vehicle appears on the MID using www.askMID.com
  3. Clive's truck is all yours, Jack - take the truck :shake::shake::shake: :shocking: For crying out loud Adrian - get that tailgate finished will you?
  4. What a brilliant combination! :-) I once drained a scammell gearbox and could swear someone had filled it with clotted cream :n00b: Mike - what started your passion for Peerless? Was it a past encounter with a real beast, or simply a photograph? It's surprising what can spark off a life-long interest. Tony
  5. And then only if I get my engine finished in time..........thanks for the offer, Clive. Bet Jack's really got a sweat on now
  6. Great! Could just imagine them as WW2 originals.
  7. That switch looks like it is in the YES position
  8. Just to muddy the waters - do you really want a VINTAGE unit? A vintage (pre 73) unit would be free RFtax, but you still need an mot if carrying a load. A modern truck would require private HGV RFtax but it's only in region of £165. As Glen said, a 4x2 would do fine. As allowable gross weights have increased then large fleets of 4x2s have been disposed of as operators go to 6x2s to carry the extra weight without RFtax penalty. This has resulted in lack of a market for these 4x2s and it has been possible in the recent past to pick up some cracking well-maintained 4x2 tractor units at really silly bargain prices (so cheap folk were buying them and having the chassis extended - not a cheap job - to turn them into beaver tail plant trucks). And looking at Ray's superb Red Ball tribute on the 'Cab Art' thread, well you don't even notice that it is a modern truck! Vintage trucks come at a price, and getting brakes through MOTs and sourcing parts is not always that easy - yes most parts are available but not immediately. If you need reliable (i.e. easily fixable at the roadside) daily / weekly / monthly transport for a vintage MV outfit it might pay to consider a modernish unit along the lines above? It's just a thought :cheesy: p.s. Did anyone buy one of those brand new Scammell Michellotti cabs being sold off at garden shed prices for allotment sheds or wendy houses a few years back? What a waste :-D
  9. So which one are you going for, R3?
  10. You don't think it might be another version of this do you?
  11. Our very own link to happier times, sharing Paul and Clive's experience. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?8638-A-very-special-Mission&highlight=liberty+belle
  12. But thanks for making the post, Earnie. Bad news travels faster than good, but from what I hear and read there is tremendous support out there to encourage the group to 'start over'.
  13. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chibrknews-crews-responding-to-incident-involving-wwii-bomber-20110613,0,5852034.story Desperately sad news breaking on U.S. news and the aviation forums. :-( Just changed title as this was not a crash - an engine fire shortly after take-off resulted in an emergency landing, expertly executed by all accounts, but fire then took hold.
  14. Try finding a local agricultural tyre fitter - they're very used to horrible old tyres like ours, unlike most car tyre dealers!!
  15. Woa! Are we saying here that just because the dog's name has been changed, the film will be a load of tosh? Don't you think Stephen Fry would not have changed it unless absolutely necessary to ensure the film got made at all by accomodating the undoubted demands of the financiers? No doubt it will all come out in the wash. I'm going to keep an open mind, and hope for the best - I can't see a dog's name spoiling the show! B-17s? Ooh, yes please
  16. 11.00 x 20s? Try Marltrax at Great Yarmouth maybe? I know it's not up north (unless you're from Kent) but they used to keep them.
  17. Here's another Mouse for Rosie - the COMPACT MOUSE:
  18. Don't suppose you've got a Technical Manual I could borrow, Robert? Tony
  19. John, side wall cracking occurs on many tyres which have been stood for a long time - even new ones which have never been on a rim! So I would not think it is linked to sidewall damage from kerbing.
  20. Oh, you can't just leave a Diamond T and us 'up in the air like that' - spill the beans, Gordon! How did you rate the Scammells in their day? Were the rear bogie tracks good at their job, or did they just dig bigger holes faster?
  21. Well mine is sometimes directing me to 'Ask Jeeves' amongst other similar sites - seems odd that malware would bother to seek to benefit an organisation like Jeeves? As I said, click back, then onto the site again it goes through ok.
  22. Hey Jack - I hope your day doesn't end like this: "Went outside to find that Neil had chucked a Red Cross parcel out of the C-47 for me as it went overhead, and that it had completely flattened my Honda Civic". Oh no, surely not? I was only joking you know....
  23. Google Chrome by any chance? Suspect it might be built in as a 'commercial' link? Doesn't always happen, and if it does - when you click 'back' and then click on link again it does go direct to the site you were trying to get to?
  24. If anyone else needs one of these foot switches (12/24v changeover series/parallel) they are available N.O.S. from Lwd parts Holland.
