  1. Those are 2 1/2T trucks, circa 1960s - something like Reo M35? The little truck behind the drill rig is a British Reynolds Boughton RB44. Hopefully someone will b able to pinpoint the exact maker of the U.S. 6x6 trucks.
  2. For those awaiting more images, Clive has put together some footage of the event - bearing in mind the appalling conditions and consequent lack of opportunities for any sort of decent photography it makes for good viewing. www.youtube.com/user/B17FFlyingFortress
  3. Hi David, try www.tube-gear.com and get in touch with them - they'll put you on to a local distributor, who will almost certainly be a commercial vehicle / trailer parts supply company. They do a really good range of fittings to connect old and modern tubing to imperial and metric adapters and pretty much most stuff you'll need for truck plumbing, should sort you out ok.
  4. Low sulphur diesel. Save the planet? We can't even save ourselves (oh, maybe that's the point!).
  5. And here is an article from a UK earthmover magazine from 2010 on this 177 square km project... http://www.earthmoversmagazine.co.uk/pdf/100301.pdf
  6. Would that be the County / Ford / Sussex drive bogie system?
  7. Here is some info on an amazing project started in 2009. A fleet of remote controlled earthmovers is utilised to restore a huge former firing range - for safety, machine operators must be at least 600m from the machine they are operating, the dumptrucks can travel up to 3km away from the operators!! http://nb-no.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150704187750328
  8. For £250 odd you can obtain a multi layer breathable cover designed for a motorhome - http://www.royal-leisure.co.uk/category/Caravan/Caravan___Motorhome_Covers,b.html Normal budget lightweight covers will flap around in the wind and soon put a shine on matt olive drab paintwork. The shape of these motorhome covers is fairly compatible with the GMC being spot on for width and height (over canvas the cover comes down almost to axle centreline), and with only a slight amount of loose bunching around the bonnet and wings. Select by length.
  9. I thought the idea of armour plate was 'the harder you try to deform it the tougher it becomes'. Which is why some armour would behave like soft cheese under attack from a 1/8th drill bit, but resist all efforts to scratch it with a 5/8th bit :cool2: Therefore a hilti stud would merely act like a bullet - which might punch straight through mild steel but would not get far into armour plate.
  10. Anything to do with Marshalls being in control of Bedford by this time, hence in direct competition with Leyland DAF? Or was this before Marshall takeover?
  11. If you want to see a long pull for the Explorer's winch just look at the bottom three photos on RECOVERY PHOTOS 3 of Hesleton's website
  12. This is great, everyone. I had no idea so many and varied images would come to light. Keep them coming please! Interesting too that despite the undoubted regulations against the practice postwar (ww2), a few seem to creep in.
  13. Jim's images showing the giant Davey Miner's Safety Lamp got me googling!
  14. Agreed. Maybe you could do an aftermarket conversion kit for all of Cosrec's add-ons. :cool2:
  15. If ever there was a case for industrial sized VELCRO, this is it!
  16. I think this is the company I've used before for smaller castors - you may find something suitable. Must be good - they're from Jack's patch!! http://www.revvo.co.uk/shop/wheels.html
  17. Plenty of companies producing components machined from NYLON in various grades (and colours:D). Depending on what and how many you need, this might be best and cheapest option as you can get them bored to the required diameter and no bearing bush required if running straight onto shaft. Here's just one that I've had great service from: www.devol.com They may pass you over to another company for small batches or one-offs.
  18. En France il y a ceux qui considèrent le SUMB pour être les noix du chien , ne pas le Scammell.
