  1. I do recollect the subject being talked about, but cannot think to whom, you know what it is like there, so many people stop to chat about vehicles, etc. That is what is so nice about the show, meeting people.
  2. Not of much use, I know, but about 11 years ago, I visited Upton's yard at Corowa, in New South Wales. They were clearing the last metal out of the yard, but there were still tank and vehicle parts laying around. The place was a source for many collectors in Australia over the years, I came across a huge mound of carbons, all marked "GEC Made in England", must have been several thousand. If only I had bought a load :-(
  3. John, I would hazard a guess it was a K3 then.
  4. Sorry, distracted by the phone, to add to the last post, if I knew what sort of unit your father was attached to , it might narrow down which of the three types of Austin.
  5. It could be one of three types; K3 3 ton 4x2 K5 3 ton 4x4 K6 3 ton 6x4
  6. I had the good fortune to see it running at a Brooklands event a couple of years ago, here is a pic of the Liberty engine.
  7. Don't forget the US Liberty aero engines dating from WW1, they were used in racing cars between the wars, Parry Thomas's "Babs" was a well known one. He was killed in it when a drive chain broke. The car was buried on the spot at Pendine Sands, only to be dug up in late 70's and now back in running order. Nuffield Mechanisation developed the engine for tank use and it was used in Crusader, Centaur, etc.
  8. Clive, Late on parade tonight, having spent 3 hours in A&E and find it a bit slow to type one handed :-(
  9. Lauren, The C8GS 15cwt came in to service in late 1944, the C8/P being earlier and not a GS load carrier, it was rated by its specific role. According to the War Office Data Book, the C8 Anti Tank Portee had an unladen weight of 3 tons 5.75 cwt and a gross weight of 4 tons 19.5 cwt. Later in the same book, the C8 Anti Tank Portee with 2pr gun is shown as unladen, 4 tons 9 cwt and laden 4 tons 19 cwt 3 qtrs. Then there are the other versions of C8/P where they were later converted to other roles. It depends on what configuration the vehicle in question is fitted out as.
  10. The mention of potatoes and agricultural devices is not a silly as you may think. When an apprentice at a Massey Ferguson distributor, we had to overhaul a Barmine layer for the Army, and it used a few MF parts, like the discs for covering over.
  11. Radek, The bottom photo is of a K2 GS in South Australia, it belongs to a friend of mine, he came with me to Beltring last week. The one higher up in a museum in Australia, is at the military vehicle museum in Elizabeth, near Adelaide.
  12. Not Barmine, but guess it is the predecessor?
  13. a minelayer trailer? or perhaps a potato planter for the Army Catering Corps..........
  14. Tim, The K6 with suffix ZB was usually mounted with a signals type of box body, predominantly for the RAF.
  15. I bought one of these about 5 years ago and it is very good, even a mobile tyre fitter was impressed when I removed an old 9.00-20 tyre that he had failed at removing.
  16. Thats the trouble with Beltring, the business and hobby intermix
  17. I think they may also be used on certain Unimogs.
  18. and we are just down the road and have had no rain all day, just shows how localised the weather can be in this area.
