  1. and quickly removed before going to Beltring in case the wrath of the other Champ owners descended on him for desicrating a fine piece of Austin engineering :-D
  2. Hi Paul, I did turn up some info, but did not take note where from, where South Eastern Command was disbanded just after the war and absorbed within Southern Commnad and Eastern Command. Later on and I think this would be in the 1960's, South East District came into being with HQ at Aldershot. The attached photo is of a shield for a Service competition, the "Tiger" was actually cut out from a waterslide transfer as used on the vehicles, but have just realised that the area around the head has been filled in with black paint, where on yours I think it shows orange. There looks to be a slight variation between this one and the one on your Rover. I do have another one somewhere, that was the self adhesive sticker type and that was plainly different in details.
  3. Will be there, Jules........looking forward to the flying
  4. I think a quote from a well known film sums up this thread; "always with the negative waves, Moriarty" there are far too many good things that could be said about the event, I have been entered in every one since it came to the Hop Farm and have never had problems.
  5. I think this was from some official trial or prototype, because the red triangle plates would appear to denote "Unarmoured", I have seen these on trials AFV's before.
  6. Get ready for the broken axle drive shafts then :-D.....they are fun to sort out :shake:
  7. Clive, I also have that book but it is not that comprehensive. Also, Commands were re-named Districts some time in 60's or 70's.
  8. Not being signed on to EMLRA forum, I do not know what Clive's comments were, but in the era that your Land Rover served, that is the correct name. I worked for the Army within SED, and our units vehicles carried that sign, until all signs were discontiued. SED HQ was Aldershot from memory.
  9. Mike, That grey sealant was a kind of mastic that came in strips, we sealed rear end of Ferret hull with it as well. I have now forgotten the trade name, but you should use something similar, because when it rains, water will find its way through that flange.
  10. You can get a leak from the joint between the manifolds, that is bad news because the bolts usually shear. Yes, try nipping the pipe nuts up a bit when hot, the copper ring may squeeze up a bit better, just do not overtighten the studs.
  11. Bet it is that electronic ignition playing up :-(
  12. Paul, Not South Eastern Command.........it is South East District, covers from Kent to Hampshire.
  13. Here you go, Bedford parts by mail order; MJ oil filter......Bedford part no. 7984779 £2.99 + VAT www.bedfordspares.co.uk/11.html
  14. There do not appear to be any specific contracts for MW's as K type welding trucks. As they only required a normal GS body, the kit was probably installed in any 15cwt as required. Pity you cannot read the census number on the photo earlier. I have seen photos before of welders in Morris Commercials and CMP Ford or Chev.
  15. Glad to hear that, Nigel
  16. They want some getting together, slide the top half off and stand it on top of the lower tubes, that will give you an idea of how long the assembled springs are.
  17. Nigel, It gets worse..........there a 5 springs each side with 4 spacers each side,
  18. Nigel, Without checking, I think it is 4 each side, they have stepped spacers between each spring. Will now go and search for the book!
