  1. John, Reason I asked is that at some time in late 70's I worked on one still in army service. It might have been a similar chassis produced postwar, but had all the similarities of the airborne lightweight trailers, wheels, axle towhitch, etc. The engine was an Enfield flat twin, air cooled diesel, definitely post war. If this one you have found is a genuine WW2 type, then a good find, I can find very little info on that one except for the blade being 28" diam. regards, Richard
  2. John, Do you what is engine powering it? Sorry, no pics of a wartime one.
  3. Les, That would have been Shelvoke, their cab design was similar to their fire engines and dustcarts. Their is a pic of it in Jane's with a Marshalls body, same as TM.
  4. Join the MVT, their club magazine, Windscreen is excellent. When I started in this hobby that is all there was and any buying and selling was in "Ex-military vehicle" section of Exchange & Mart, also had small ads for shows in there. :coffee:
  5. Tony, I think that is the old REME Publication Branch buildings, later demolished. If you look behind the breach of the gun, you can see the roof of the Rotunda.
  6. Totally agree, Ben. I have recently being going back though them and they still make good reading. You also know that the facts are correct. W&T..never been bettered.
  7. If my memory serves me correctly, there were three contenders, Foden 4x4, Leyland and Bedford TM of course. I might me wrong though.... According to Jane's, there was a 6x6 Leyland version that contended for the Australian Army 6x6 contract.....Mack won that one.
  8. Ah yes........the "how not to do it" ! I do have a photo somewhere of a Recy Mech I knew, doing a lift over the rear with out spring locks in, he had a glass of beer in his hand and as the vehicle leaned over the beer spilled out of his glass.........now is that what you call a Spirit Level ? :-D
  9. Robert, The stabiliser legs to ground increase the lifting capacity, ideal to lift a casualty and back a trailer under it. Here is the Jib SWL on all duties; Spring locks only ; 10ft rad = 2.7 tons 18ft rad = 1.5 tons Spring locks /all outrigger jacks; 10ft rad. = 5.4 tons 18ft = 3.0t All outrigger jacks and jib to frame support stays in use; 10ft =10t Spring locks and jib stabiliser legs to ground (rear) ; 10-15ft = 10t Spring locks and jib stabiliser legs to ground (side) ; 10-15ft = 6t Suspended tow with jib to frame support stays ; 4.25t
  10. I would say it is based on a RL, the instruments are same and it looks to have the High / Low FWD lever behind the gear lever. The engine looks ot be a Bedford 330 diesel, going by the rocker cover and exhaust manifold, other than that, a bit of a mystery.:idea::idea: Just come to me....the chassis is not Bedford, by the back view, I will take a bet that this is Airportable Missile Handling truck, built on a Thornycroft Nubian chassis using RL running gear. circa 1965.
  11. When we were in Normandy this year, we were on the MVT campsite at Etreham, just down the road from the village was a farm on the side of the road, someone identified a wartime photo showing the pipes running along side it, coming up from Port en Bessin. Also, if you go to the New Forest, to a place called Lepe, you can see the pipes emerging on the edge of the shore and going off towards the Isle of Wight. The other pipe line that went towards Dungeness, runs about a mile from me and you could identify where it crossed roads by two concrete posts and enamel signs saying "No Footpath".
  12. Alan, Bit big for a Land Rover, the engine looks like a Bedford 330 diesel, but I cannot visualise what the vehicle is or was.
  13. Bob, I have sent you a Private Message with the details. Richard
  14. Hi Bob, There is one in East Sussex, the owner has had it for many years.
  15. Les, Dennis Roberts possibly... did'nt he buy Tony's DT and Rogers?
  16. It seems the army have been trialling a new amphibian with view to using it for surveilance and uncover operations. Check it out on this YouTube link;
  17. Recognise the voice, is he off some BBC programme? :-D
  18. Sorry to hear that, I very much suspect that the hub has been loose on the taper and this is to stop the nut coming loose.
  19. Hi Stone, I think your container body is different, with the bollards on the side where your heavy clamps hook over. The previous posts showing section drawing and photos of hook bolts, show that the container overlaped the truck body, there were pins under the overlap to hook the clamps on. I have transfered many of these from RL to MK in the distant past, and seeing the drawing it all came back. So for security, right clamps for right body.
  20. Forget the turret, look at the front of the hull :n00b: :-D
  21. It was registered as an experimental aircraft in the USA, this only gave it a certain amount of flying hours, the CAA have been generous to allow it a few flights in the UK since it arrived after the re-enctment of the Transatlantic Crossing a few years ago.
