  2. Clive, Bit of a slow starter is this one........not a lot of clues, but from looking at the lower picture on the second post, it look like some kind of kit stowage, there being a "wing" nut and retainer plate on that item.

  4. Tony, The crane is an Austin K6 Coles and appears to be lifting bridging sections, which fits in with other photos.
  5. The signs on the vehicles and the "memorial" (if that is what it was) are of the Polish Forces with the Allies

  7. Thanks Clive, There were two nets dropped first, made of stainless steel, then a platform was lowered so the helicopter could land on it and transfer troops or supplies into the jungle. Apparantly it was not liked nor used in action.

  11. It was a sub machine gun, I did not see it, but believe it might have been from Syrian forces. It was found under the flooring wrapped up in hessian. Caused a big flap and a lot of questioning. I understand it was deactivated and is now in the Royal Artillery Museum collection, where the M110 also is. So, definitely not a myth.
  12. Sorry Alan, you are correct, I made a mistake and was actually refering to the M110 and not the M109, always get those numbers confused :confused:

  14. Alan, That M109 was restored at Ashford workshops. There is a story attached to it, as it returned from the Gulf and was selected for the museum and sent back to UK........a certain item was found hidden in it........caused all sorts of problems.

  19. Tim, Have you seen this Vickers Carden-Loyd carrier? A bit later number than the picture that Alan posted. It was taken at Rushmoor in 1989....restored and owned by Tony Oliver
  20. Dougy, As I said, it was in 1985 that I worked on that particular 432, and cannot see from your photo whether it is the same. Having worked on quite a few since then, never come across this modification again, although all the re-engined ones may well be upgraded.

Clive, reckon I have may have done a few before 100 posts, all good fun though, except you keep sneaking those old ones in, might as well be medieval, so they are pure guesswork.   22. Dougy, This chap is right..............I will explain. Back in 1985, I was sent to sort out an engine problem on a FV432 Mk2/2 at a contractors premises. They were making the prototype installations for Ptarmigan and had L/R 1 tonne hard body, Chieftain, CVR(T), etc there. From information gleaned, this 432 Mk2/2 was designated as SAS COMCEN. There was something else that we had not seen before. The vehicle had just been rebuilt and all the interior covers around the engine bay were of a new tight fitting and sealed design and was told it was NBC proof.
