  4. Unfortunatley yes, both parts are required. There is also a ultra violet flouresent bit built into the photo card. There is still no requirment in this country to carry your licences at all times, at least for car drivers. But if going abroad check local rules and regs.
  5. Maybe Phil, but a lot of people used 'em. The yanks used them in 1917 /18.

  8. I keep looking through the site, just find more. How about a puncture in this Dodge?
  9. I do like the bit about 'Wide spread publicity generates unwanted enquires'. We aren't going to tell you beacuase we don't want the tea breack disturbed. No wonder you can never get a straight answer from them or VOSA.
  10. Quite a lot, the modern hall (Cold War) at Firepower is one such. In that case there are a lot of period illustrations that is copyright material. Some materials are very sensitive to light, and in some cases, obnoxious photographers and the selling of images has put the block on. Often a serious talk with the staff, and some proof that you are a genuine, knowledgable person can get round things.
  11. Don't forget the National Army musuem at chelsea as well! that's Free, and the archive is mangnifcent. Also Deepcut Royal Logistic Corps Musuem at Camberley. We have to convince Andy Robertshaw to do a vehicle show there!
  12. Trouble is guys, you now have to top it! :-D The journalistic side of the forum is going from strength to strength.
  13. The walls are mortared, that suggests not the north or the moors, they like drystone. Unfortunatley there are bot a lot distinct archetecturail styles in England.
  14. It is a complictaed site to get round. If you clik on one image it brings up links and similar images. then a case of just keeping searching.
  15. the Somme mud is known as 6 inch mud, walk across a wet feild and your 6 inches taller at the end. It's very true visiting at this time of year will give you an even deeper respect for the men who served. cold wet miserable windswept.
  16. Didn't airfeild caravans have a Commer Karrier or something in bettween? At college the pig man Pete Mountain was ex RAF and had driven them regularly, what he could do with a trailer made the rest of us jealous.
  17. It's a fallacy that reins stop horses. Think about it for a minute. you are 1 sitting on top, so no contact with the ground. 2 you are pulling aginst the sensitive mouth of half a ton of horse 3 This is going to cause said horse discomfort,4 Horse's tend to run away from things that hurt. The answer, think 'stand still', your body will stop, so will the horse. I have seen some beautiful model traction engines on the circuit, so is possible to make a steamer.
  18. There is an old black & white Army training film about the Humber Armoured Car available. Paul Clark had a copy at one stage.
  19. My 1:1 scale model is going to be a Lanchester Armoured Car!! Rolls, pah, tuppence a dozen. :-D
  20. Toolmaker, engineer, archeologists, historians, coachbuilders, coach painters, grease monkeys, is there no end to your collective talents? :-D
  21. it's of the Life picture site just released. Only scratche dthe surface, ther is also a picture of a Tilly ambulance, 20 million odd pictures so start digging :-D http://images.google.com/hosted/life try Eisenhower and you have command cars coming out of your ears. As for ropes I'm lucky enough to have the Ropeworks at chatham Dockyard about 45 minutes away. They make everything including tow ropes for aircraft carriers and the Mainbrace for HMS victory. They will also sell the left overs from contracts to deserving cause very cheap.
  22. Appears that the M55 wasn't the only one.
