  1. Fray Bentos, is actually the name of the port from which the stuff was originally shipped. SPAM I belive is from SPiced hAM. I am also reliably informed that the ingredients have to be kept in a locked room as the are classed as dangerous! :shake: (Never eaten it since) There do seem to be pull up corned beef cans apperaing. The Health and Saftey police probably. The can you are most likley to cut yourself on is a corned beef can. (Ever go round the supermarket as a kid, taking the keys off corned beef cans)
  2. Force Ten From Navarone was filmed in Yugoslavia and Jersey. The vehicles in Jersey belonged to Ian Cabot, and If I remember some of Richard Le Brocq's. The Yugoslavic stuff was their military. The 'Aircraft' at the base at the beggining were eight foot painted flats, on a couple of hundred square feet of tarmac. Looked amazingly effective even from the other side of the road.
  3. Those Easter Eggs probably went into stock last summer! Notice Mince pies at give away prices.
  4. I use a breathable carvan cover. It fits the Dodge and would fit over a scaffold frame leaving room. Also about £300 cheaper.
  5. I have one with all the poles but none of the fixings :argh:

Point of intrest: The name Dalex comes fronm the Encycopedia Britannica, Vol DA-To-LEX
  7. Loved those old monsters. They were a favourite for Horseboxs. Learnt to drive on one.
  8. Dave Alan had a version of that joke, Fortunatley Maid Marion was sitting with her legs apart when the arrow landed.
  9. welcome in mate! The eastern bloc brigade are out playing Siberia in the snow at the moment. They'll buy you a drink when they get back.

The UNIT Bedfords are down at Tony's at Eton wick, he supplied the vehicles.
  12. No Custard Creams for you for a week! :nono:

    Snow..

The Capital, had a faint dusting this morning all gone now but still chuffing cold. I blame that lot in Kent, to lazy to push it over the North Downs. Quite bizzarley the snow seems to reach the bottom of Polhill and stop.
  14. The bad news is that things on board may still go bang. The good news is that with the detereration of the stuff on board, it is unlikley that a chain reaction would start. The idea of it removing half of Essex (I'll reserve comment on that :cool2: ) is something of an urban myth, but is useful to keep the oiks away.
  15. The Italian Job (PROPER version of the film) on last night.:-D A Dodge WC64 Command Car, with headlights under the front mudgaurds, followed by a modified Greyhound armoured car with a water cannon. as for Guns of Navarone, what were the 15 cwt trucks? Fiat's? I'd love the little radio van out of that film. There were also various Alfa romeo feild cars in italian job.
  16. I'm intrested in the medical as well. I have a fully kitted ex British Army 101 ambulance in UK, and intrest in a WC54 in Jersey. The 54 especially as the owner is a nurse has a display of medical in the back, always looking for more.
  17. I'll wait at the top for you then! :-D
  18. Possibly. Someone I hadn't seen for thirty years tracked me down by Googling and coming up with a post from here. That however was a great nice suprise.

My friend Carol is also diabetic. She loves it when I go to Belgium, she can eat as much of that choclate as she likes. Mind you so can I! I used to work on the Bath road in Slough, across from the Mars factory. The smell always changed on Wednesday afternoon, that's when they brewed up the batch for British Army rations. Those had a completly difrent taste.
  20. I know, but I wasn't keeping that one to myself!:cool2:
  21. Go on Richard you know you love the QL really.:-D The problem is when you are driving a Dodge behind one, you can't slow down enough to avoid pushing it.
  22. The two guys with pipes. The left one is typical of a Bavarian style. Though German pies are often Mersham or Mersham lined. The one on the right is almost certainly a Dunhill! that was probably taken from a Brtitsh officer, they were (well still are) extremly expensive.
  23. http://www.argylls1945to1971.co.uk/Aden_9012.jpg Ferret! Actually lots of Ferrets! Including a colour of sand and green.
  24. Ah sorry. It was the main trouble area on the Aden penisula. I presume there is a crater there, never looked to be honest. :n00b: http://www.argylls1945to1971.co.uk/A_and_SH_Aden_Re-entryintoCrater.htm
