  6. Having now got over the thought of Rosie and whips (Just) :-D I'm looking for a local haulier round your way who could meet me at Protsmouth docks and take Katy and possibly my Disco up to the SE edge of London. Any suggestions?
  7. Forte do a very useful additive for engines that have had old fuel. http://www.forteuk.co.uk/product.php?id=42/Advanced_Formula_Gas_Treatment I've used all be it in smaller tank sizes, definite improvement.
  8. I have nothing but praise for Greenflag, unlike the 4th emergency service, average respose times about 4 hours, if they can finally locate the M25. The other thing with Greenflag is the vehicle that comes out, if they can't fix it the same vehicle recovers you all the way.
  9. Welcome Steve, your advice is likley to be much sought.

So? You know were waiting for more revalations! :cool2:
  11. It always was, and no doubt still will be an argument over towed gun artillery. ie line of sight shooting. Do you use small and light get in close or bigger and stand off. The German tactic was to base heavy 88 mm guns as a backstop before the Panzers went in. This allowed withdrawal under artillery cover, but held up advance till the guns moved forward. The US tank killers never answered the question and were always swopping emphasis from towed to self proppeled. The towed gun if dug into defence was firing over pre surveyed ground from a solid position but if over run could not withdraw. The self proppeled guns could keep up with the AFV's but if they outstripped infantary support were vunrable, especially in closed in ground or built up areas.
  12. Hi mate. As I've posted elsewhere, definite cam belt change! The engines are pretty easy to work on. If you haven't palyed with MV's before. Watch the main light switch, turn the wrong way and everything will go dead and scare the life out of you. It's supposed to. A 'bit battered' is the ideal way to show them, she has worked for her living after all.
  13. After about fifften minutes, I decided I didn't have enough left!
  14. Simple answer for 24 volt think 'Truck'. Most things are available, though may cost a bit more. Still far easier to live with 24 volt than try and convert. Check fuel and oil levels before starting! You have no idea what's in there or the crud it may have acumalated. Most parts such as fuel fliters etc are the same as civvy models. If the engine turns over and fires Whoppe! Switch stright off, change filters and oil then restart . Would be very wise to change cam belts as well. Not sure if the Wolf engine uses one, but Land Rover engines in genral are a bit notorious for running till the belt actually goes and causing a lot of headache. Good thing is not a bad job to do, and you can forget for 50,000 odd miles. Quick check says the engine is a 300tdi. Having just done the cam belt on Number One Son's Discovery TDi 300, a piece off p**. Kit costs about £135 including all gaskest and new idlers. Just asked son. Proper Land Rover cam kit was £120, though cheaper kits are available.
  15. Post most questions here and someone will know the answer. When you say 'not yet running' is that due to mechanical reasons or just not tried to start it yet? If the military are still not fitting sterring locks a generic ignition switch will do nicley.
  16. I've always used Green Flag since it was National Breackdown and before. I have only ever had one query with them over the years, and that was sorted out so fast my head span. They were also offering £10 if they did not get to you in an hour. I had a call out after the 1987 hurricane which took the agent two hours to get there due to roads being closed. The company wanted me to accept the £10. I didn't on the grounds the AA at the time were quoting at least an eight hour wait, and given conditions two hours was little short of miraculous. I have a personal cover for everything on any vehicle. Don't ask how much it costs I can't remeber! it's around the £100/£110 mark. They also go above and beyond. For various reasons I wa stuck with a broken down MAN truck at two in the morning in a very ugly situation. Greenflag not only found me a HGV mechanic, he had the nonce to come up with most the bizzare and effective repairs I've ever seen. A pice of stick from the hedge and a cable tie! It got us out of the area thankfully very fast.
