  1. Aren't there two more books in the series? :sweat:Don't let her commondere the basement!
  2. Still used on explosive sites. Simple cheap and virtually fool proof.
  3. I copied all my original documents, showed them to the DVLA, then gave them the copies. Though Sidcup office were incredibly helpful. If you have an original registration number, even if it is no longer releveant, you could ask if it is available. I got Katy's original English number back as it hadn't been re issued. Biggest problem was proof of adress. There are so many things done on line now that Gas, Electricity or other utility bills are rare documents. And who keeps them anyway?
  4. A good scrub down with Sugar Soap works well to prepare the surface, and is cheap.
  5. This could get to be a fun discussion. :-D As an aside I did overhear two burly bus enginners discussing the culinary aspects of 50 shades of grey yeasterday. :nut: Actaulyy a lot of similarities come out between Tolkien and his books and C.S. Lewis books, particulary the Out of a silent Planet triology when the main carechter was a Philologist, (The forensic study of language) The same as Tolkien. This is less suprising when you know that Lewis and Tolkien were close friends.
  6. A Motor vehicle, which I suppose includes a motorbike, that was FIRST USED, which is the key, before 1960. The first used means if you got a collection of old bits and built a copy, though each bit was pre 1960, if you can't prove it had been 'used' on the road somewhere before 1960, it would need MOT and road tax etc. Going to be a whole world of fun and games considering the majority of vehicle of that age would have had major repairs re builds, renovations. Like Grandad's broom, three new handles and two new heads.
  7. Lot of intresting Great War analogies in Lord of the Rings, if you know Tolkien's life and read the books with the right mindset.
  8. I trust you wiped ALL the mud off before entering the Hallowed Portals?
  9. The Research room is Monday to Friday only. The libary and on line roon are open and staffed on a Saturday. Best bet is to e mail or phone and tell them what you are after. The staff I talked to were extremley helpful.
  10. You can order pictures, depending on copy right, and you can do so on line. I've found an image of a WC54 outside Bastogne, and have ordered it on line. It is also one of the free images.
  11. I was in the IWM London, Saturday afternoon. No not all the pictures are on line, there are about 150,000 odd. You can e- mail or if you are able visit the musuem, the staff in London are very helpful.
  12. Oh so sorry !Will you have to punish me now?:cool2:
  13. Not a device for handeling live cables is it?
  14. Partly depends on the stretcher your using. These are for the classic fold in half canvas types or the wire mesh based hard type. Those more or less went out of British use with the last of the ambulance 101's in the late 1990's. Modern designs of stretcher have the restraints built into the design, so I'd think these are obsolecent now if not obsolete.
  15. Is that why you've been seen with the Indianna Jones hat and whip latley?
  16. Are you going to give a clue as to the materials used in the gadget? Reminds me very much of an Equine sweat scraper.
  17. Have you seen the pictures from Forum memebers? Funny enough the event listed next on the Hop Farm site says'Bring your wellies'.
  18. As far back as stretchers have been used. Not a stupid answer, I was taught as a St John's Ambulance cadet how to use rope to secure a casualty. We did a lot of sailing on Jersey! Anywhere the casualty has to be taken out of enclosed area or through a window, tunnel, up or down ladders, you need to secure them. I also had a folding stretcher/harness on my 101. That was designed to take into restricted areas to bring a casualty out. Even in the 1890's you see a similar sort of harness used on animal ambulances. The current design dates back to at least the end of WW2, just the material changes.
  19. They were in use up to the 1990's, posibbly still are. They are used to restrain a casualty during lifting operations.
  20. The battle was in Afganastan? Told 'em, never give an officer a map! :-D
  21. If the vehicle runs and nothing makes a nasty grinding noise. You've got it right. :-D
  22. Can never be enough Dodges about. You don't have an APT by any chance do you?
