  1. Very dependent on whose ordnace it was and where it ended up. The Channel Islands during WW2 had Ordnace from France , Russia and Chezcoslovakia. Some of the stuff, has 19th century dates on it. A number of German and Austrian ordnace went to the USA following the Great War. At least one Big Bertha, the proper howitzer one, ended up at Aberden Proving ground, apparently used for testing ariel bombs before being scrapped.
  2. Welcome Jerry! What's your particular intret's?
  3. Welcome in. Which era do you fancy? Most are dealt with here.
  4. Halford's do a classic 20/50. I've used the stuff for thre eor four years now in my dodge 51. Great stuff, I had been using Valvoline 20/50. The advantage of the Halford's oil is it does keep oil pressure up after a long hard run.
  5. Avo used to be down by Dover Harbour. Apparently they are now part of the Megger group. http://www.megger.com/
  6. Go to a saddler and get some NEATSFOOT oil. Apply librally to the underneath (open) side of the saddle. That will soften and preserve it better than anything. I'm looking for a crank set if anyone has a spare, including pedal arms.
  7. Don't know if you saw the tribute to Dave Allen on BBC TV last night. They showed the sketch where they are lowering a coffin into a grave. It goes on and on down till eventually there is a clang and a whoosh of flame. Aparently the prop boy poured half a gallon of petrol into the hole then added a match. :cool2: I'd forgotten how funny Dave Allen was.
  8. With those pictures of the vehicles stuck, are you sure it isn't the language that has turned them blue?:-D As the saying goes' You got it stuck. You dig it out'.
  9. Welcome as a former 101 owner, that is insanity!
  10. You try it! We will all watch, from a long way away!
  11. You can lead a horse to water! It's when the horse decides to drag you into the water that the fun starts!
  12. So mostly you come back to brushes or dirt. I'd start there before going anywhere near the voltage regulator.
  13. Thanks, it was advertised in Horse & Hound of all places!
  14. Thanks for clarification! Out of intrest, does the back come off easily to check brushes?
  15. Hum! Makes you wonder what Richard does for his friends. Nice toy though, should have no problems in the local Tesco carpark.
  16. Hi and welcome. my two pennyworth, check the drive on the dynamo is tight. May also be worn or stuck brushes. But you need to check with someone like Richard Farrant, I think there is a funny the way the dynamo is driven off the timing chain. Check all connections are clean, dynamos are touchy that way. A good spray of contact cleaner or WD40 into the back of the Dynamo might cure the problem. Dynamos are quite simple to work on, but you must remeber the re polarise it after work, BEFORE you refit the regulator wires. Oil, well 30 is the right stuff, but if you flush the engine out well 20/50 can be used (Wait for screams from Degsey! It is an on going discussion:D). As for the leack, where is it coming from? As for surface rust, a good clean up and application of a rust killer, I swear by a stuff called Vactan, then re paint. A Military Vehicle is a working tool, so a bit of battered look is in keeping.
  17. Welcome in. Try re-polarising the dynamo.
  18. Didn't they advertise Diseilised Stalwarts some years back?
  19. One or both headlights? The first place to check, and I'm speacking from experience, any fuse! (once stripped an entire set of units off before doing that) The next place would be the main switch, then the dip switch and earths. You should get voltage at each point. Do them in that order and you are following the circuit from scource at the battery up to the lights and to return. Other thing is which way was the blackout lights set? Remeber most military vehicles have a system to kill the head lights , easy enough to turn switch the wrong way.
  20. A real pice of engineering. Makes you appreciate the skill that went into the originals.
  21. Have you checked the mare's nest of wiring behind the instruments? That can cause a lot of spurious warning lights.
