  1. You cant have seen that episode of the Simpsons when Homer became a Big Rig driver . the black box does all the driving so you can sleep , get drunk and generally have fun on long trips.:cheesy:
  2. I got this (had to buy it myself) next best present was a coffee cup.
  3. Its good to see someone had the fore thought to keep all that treasure !
  4. It looks good , have some bits that need cleaning shortly so may give it a try..
  5. Its surprising what comes out of the woodwork when you start looking ! good luck with the project and some more photos would be great.
  6. the auction ended not meeting the reserve (4 grand) this is part of quite a big collection that is being sold and argued over by the family of the deceased collector . so far only the less desirable stuff has come up for sale. I believe there is plenty more to come (Artillery Tanks and quite a few vehicles) when and if the family decide what is going to be kept or sold. there is also rumour of the entire lot being sold overseas to a big Auction house?
  7. Landrover would be a bit light for towing ? over here we use Unimogs..
  8. Come to NZ for a holiday ,turn up to a Pistol club on a Sunday when they are doing classic pistol (usually once a month) someone will have a webley there , SMLEs no problem anytime and anywhere (within reason) as long you have a licence holder with you.
  9. Probably just Nitrogen for topping up leaks , smaller cylinders were always preferred so you could carry it between vehicles when doing servicing but maybe in the Philippines you get what size bottle they have in the store.
  10. I have a very special wood chisel , my dad gave it to me ,it belonged to his older brother who lent it to him when he went off to WW2 . he was taken prisoner in North Africa and was killed on the Nino Bixio troop transporter that was torpedoed on the way back to Italy. its has hard a hard life and was not a very flash chisel when new but its my favourite tool.
  11. Thanks for the replies and info , I will be able to hunt something down. cheers
  12. Hi Folks , have come across some 25 pounder parts , basically a set of trails and a shield , its missing the wheels but has hubs. if I buy it getting it mobile for loading on to a trailer will be handy , do any other WW2 vehicles use the same wheel and stud pattern ? it will make tracking some down easier if im not just looking for 25 pounder wheels.. any help appreciated.
  13. Perhaps scrounging at the local scrap metal yard will be a cheaper option for steel plate(and all sorts of useful things for the build) well done guys !
  14. Hi , I am from down the south island , any more of those Thompsons left?
  15. You don't have to recover it all the way in one step , first track down the owners , see if you can settle on a price ? buy it! then get it from its current location to a secure place. you now have time to get the other parts of the journey sorted out. brilliant idea of getting the media/military involved ,but only after you have a bill of sale in your pocket , all sorts of people crawl out of the woodwork wanting to spoil your fun. trucking firms , barge operators all want free advertising , some may be enthusiasts and want to be involved just because its interesting , if you have time you can wait for a back load where the vehicle will be travelling empty back from a paying job, you may be able to negotiate a good price . media coverage is always good , if your name and contact number are displayed other vehicles and parts , interesting stuff may be offered to you (all sorts of things are tucked away and forgotten about) If you are looking for volunteers I am almost tempted to come over the ditch and give you a hand just for the fun of it.
  16. My friend in London who is going to send it to has been doing some digging , he found this at legislation.gov.uk according to them its does not need an export permit. so that problem is solved , now to find a courier who will transport it , any ideas?
  17. I have just sent the good people at SPIRE an email to get their ruling on the situation , good info on who wont carry it , any ideas on what courier company would?
  18. You must have an understanding wife , most woman don't like overspray on the driveway ! PS , your turret looks very similar to the T50 turrets fitted to the NZ army M113 APCs
  19. Hi Folks , is anybody aware of rules surrounding the export (from the UK) of a de activated firearm ? Long story short , in the 90s I bought a de act Uzi when living in London , didn't think I could bring it back to NZ so gave it to a mate (with the intention of trying to get it home if possible in the future) well after a couple of attempts at getting an import permit from the NZ police I have finally succeeded . Over here De acts are considered the same as a fully working firearm so had to jump through a few hoops but perseverance paid off . I have the paperwork sorted at my end for customs , is it ok if my mate just puts it in the post or do I have to go through a UK firearms exporter? any information would be greatly appreciated !
  20. Welcome from a fellow Gun Plumber who lives way down south !
  21. Maybe he wanted to get his wife involved with the project , also would keep it clean on dirt roads.
  22. Nice to see none of the Jag owners were brave enough to park next to you !
  23. Another plus for the M113 (and funny story) The NZ ones came with extra detachable belly armour , it was all removed during its peace time life by the RNZEME boys , Then the UN Bosnia deployment came up and the vehicles were being prepped to go. some clever officer rung the store to get all the nice thick alloy belly plates to re fit to the wagons. turns out the workshop boys had been quietly cutting it up and sending it to the scrappy for beer money. so the M113 comes with detachable beer tokens , try and beat that !
  24. We had a few on the workshop M113s , don't remember seeing the tankies with them so they may have been scrounged off obsolete vehicles. very useful when you have to fill a large fuel tank , after a while a jerry can gets very heavy by the 3rd or 4th you would be very pleased to find one of these !
  25. Hi , I didn't even know they made an all steel version ! PS like the cats .
