  1. You only need to recover one pair of Hawkers and it is paid for !
  2. Morning Mike, Yes it would have been, but obviously in the other direction, have you managed to find any photo's of it ?
  3. The old heavy load route over the Pennines between Manchester and Huddersfield prior to the M62 the area is known as Standedge, I remember as a child being in that area one Sunday watching a cycle race, later in the day a similar abnormal load came by but it was being moved by Wynns. It also stopped close to the pub which was called "The Winking Light", I think most had to stop part way up to let them cool down, I seem to recall that there were at least 5 ballast tractors pulling and pushing.
  4. I notice Melvyn the owner and driver has his blue disabled badge on the rear !
  5. Are all your tyre circumferences matched ?
  6. Best charger is the twin 12v xtreme charger available from United Scientific Instruments at Kenilworth, Warwickshire. I have one, it is only low output (2.5amps) but is excellent at recovering batteries, also suitable for AGM batteries. the twin version is obviously useful for vehicles with 24v systems which most of mine are.
  7. Can anybody help with identifying the location of the M8A2 shown in this picture, I am sure the picture is quite old and it is quite likely that it has been cut up but would really like to know where it was photographed. I suspect somewhere in Germany / Netherlands area.... any thoughts ? I am also interested in any information on these vehicles still in existence.
  8. Or a pair of good ear defenders ! On a more serious note it must be a complete pain if you are trying to get to sleep at 4am and some people are still partying.
  9. what surprised me was the fact that they gradually directed him onto the tarmac section of the roadway on the way to the arena, in this hot weather a T55 will really do some damage, at one point you can see the edges of the tarmac being broken off.
  10. On the road / highway from Johannesburg to Pretoria there is a yard on the left hand side with a row of those parked up, they are some sort of import / export company, I have seen ex-British Army vehicles parked there in the past.
  11. All boiling vessels are 24v. That box looks like comms power distribution unit which were also designed to run 24v ?
  12. Thanks Bob, it looks really well it is a credit to everyone there who has worked on it, unfortunately I will not get to W & P this year, did you get a picture after it was loaded on the transport ? The whole project brings back memories of me working silly hours on my ANTAR in your yard back in 92 then dashing off to Stonleigh in it as its first run on the road following restoration.
  13. Quite right the control box is marked as 60 amp. I have been caught out in the past using it in my Crusader when parked up, you must have big batteries and a high capacity alternator. Most armoured vehicle operator handbooks have numerous warnings about using the BV without the engine running and charging.
  14. So do I and im waiting for apicture of eddy8mens Cromwell to be posted !
  15. There are a number of different control boxes for the boiling vessel depending on the vehicle they are used in. Most armoured vehicles have the control and power circuit integrated into the vehicle wiring, for example my CET has the on/off switch inthe earth operators dash panel. Most wheeled vehicles if they had BV facility used a seperate control box. I have one from a Stalwart fitted in my Crusader. I have attached photos of one from a Foden Recovery which is destined for my Scammell S26.
  16. I have just had a text to say a Cromwell just pulled in after overnight transport from the North West, any chance of some pictures please ?
  17. You have actually broken his cover, he is down there checking out the fact that there are actually more military vehicles at this show than he has under his control in the British Army !
  18. Yes clearly well out of order fancy taking a truck without painting the wheel rims and tyre wall blacking the tyres to such a prestigious event !
  19. There is also "FUKA WALAL" but this may not be deemed politically correct these days !
  20. "LILLY MARLENE" is also on the list but the wrong mark.
  21. Yes Andy, I think you hit the nail on the head with "Cassandra" she was a character in "Only Fools and Horses".
  22. Pig bonnets are up in one shot so possibly having other "troubles" as well.
  23. No chance of going hungry whilst you were waiting for repair !!!
  24. Just go and sit in your local McDonald's car park with your laptop, that's all I ever use them for, oh and the occasional use of the toilets, wouldn't dream of eating the food !!!
