  1. I'll answer on Ricks behalf as he is very busy, 293 miles each way by the route they will be taking (avoiding Dartford crossing and its toll for wide loads).
  2. The other possibility is that it was originally purchased by someone who had a Firearms Certificate and has held on to it for a while.... I was just searching through an old file and found an old MOD Tender catalogue from 17 December 1992, l noticed that there were 89 Chieftain MBT MK 10's listed. 07FA14 was listed as lot number 193 which just happens to be the same number as the one recently advertised in the Withams tender ! My suggestion is that it was purchased by Withams in the MOD Tender in 1992, and has been stored with the other 17 they purchased at the time inside the big hangar until it was refurbished around 3 years ago and the Chieftains moved outside under heavy canvas sheets. For interest I have attached the relevant pages of the MOD Tender and the recent Withams catalogue.
  3. Thought he was pedaling fast then at the end you find it has an engine !
  4. Should be no problem with insurance for a historic military vehicle carrying another historic military vehicle as long as all the legal weight requirements are met. Fuel consumption on Drops would be a drawback compared to a commercial rigid.

    Fv432

Hope the smoke dischargers are deactivated ?
  6. Oh please no ! I haven't learnt to swim yet ! On a more serious note have you ever seen pictures of a CET swimming, they were nicknamed "THE FROG" by the RE. They were also nicknamed "the CRRAV TRAILER" by the REME.
  7. What and be rideculed by the press as some nutters who drive round in tanks no thanks !
  8. Give any of the utility companies a call, plenty of tracked excavators all over the country digging up pavements !
  9. I do not see an issue with the rim width, a few years ago I converted my 2.5 ton Reo off 9.00 x20's onto 11.00 x 20's again due to the rarety of the 9.00's, understandably anything bigger may be difficult to get onto the rim. Fortunatly the Reo has adjustable steering stops, I had to adjust these out fractionally. Does the K9 have adjustable stops ? The added increase in rolling radius also gives higher gearing which helps reduce engine speed when cruising.
  10. What is it off in the first place, when you say 4 wheel drive were there 4 individual outlets and returns ? Problems may occur if you blank off 2 ports to make it 2wd we need more info.

    Cet

Gave the CET a bit of a tidy up at weekend in preparation for Wicksteed Nationl MVT show.
  12. The guy above is Roy ? The tank was called Maine ? Question is where was Mr Grumbly ?
  13. I see I'm going to have to dig out the box of RR B series tools to make a comparison .... it may take a while.
  14. With screen and hood down will do even better !
  15. Could you take a picture with a common item next to it so we get an idea of exact size ?
  16. Could be one of the RR B series engine tools, not sure which one though.
  17. By the national show do you mean wicksteed ? If so I will be there with CET and I know there are definately some more tracked vehicles coming. John.
  18. Were there many there at Smallwood? Nearly went myself with the CET but too busy doing restoration work.
  19. Thanks for the info, anything is of help, By top on colour of crank do you mean cover of crank, ie reference to "red top" engines ?
  20. Rick......that sounds expensiiiiiiiive !
  21. I can agree on that one, I spent the next 5 hours fitting 1 nut and bolt to the fuel injection pump drive shaft and checking the pump timing on my CET.
  22. Does anyone have or know where a list of variants can be found showing the different Mks of packs fitted to the Chieftain. I have a Mk13A fully reconned by ABRO Catterick in November 2004 but have had an e-mail conversation with a chap in USA who would prefer a 14A which I did not even know existed!
