  1. Well I have sorted out the front wheel nuts and have now bolted on the spares:cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2: Pedestrians watch out :shake::shake::shake: How much do they stick out !!!!!!!!!!
  2. What a house boat though or palace ship !!!!!!! Plus garages and workshops plus some more, and just think of the impact it would cause to land on a French beach and have Tanks, half tracks, Jimmies ect roll out for the first time since 1944.................................. But better still if it did all go pare shaped you could still sell her for scrap :shake:
  3. Hope you didn't take offence to my previous sarky reply, it was meant in good taste. :-D I think it is to do with the hole cut in the wheel for the valve to exit through, less metal so out of balance so put the other wheel 180 deg out and you counter act the hole. As far as I was aware this is applies to all dual wheeled vehicles as other posts say was taught this from an early age, will carry out the same when running duals on the front for shows as well, thanks for the advice.
  4. Of course What do you take me for some kind of tyre kicker :cool2::cool2: :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
  5. To give you all an idea of how big it is, it is 350 feet long, could carry 5 Landing Craft Assault LCA, and 1 Landing Craft Tank LCT. Or Carry 500 tons of cargo as well as enough fuel and supplies for a 1000 mile trip at a max speed of 13 Knots. Had a hull survey in 1996 by MOD and then put up for disposal in 2002 when she was bought by Pounds Marine.
  6. Been playing with some new toys which I bought from W & P I now have 2 nice new Firestone 7.50-20 Bar grips for the front of my truck and a shock wrench for undoing or doing up both types of nut on the wheels, and its a well handy bit of kit, pics to follow. Tonight I have changed 3 tyres and wheels and fitted the 2 new ones to the front axle and moved 3 others around to get rid of some dodgy tyres... cant pick up my arms any more its taken me about an hour to type this and I am nackered, now going to bed :yawn::yawn::yawn:
  7. What are the lower decks like does it take on water when the tide comes in ?

Now resting at Pounds Yard in Portsmouth is facing the gas axe :shake: :shake: :shake: :shake: :shake: :shake: Money required to save the last one of these great ships...... 10. Thanks Paul and Clive, that's just what I was after. Has anyone out there tried this with the new re pro lights to see if this does actually work ? I will have to try mine, will let you know the outcome.
  11. Getting warm, we are on the right track. But I thought there was something special about the lenses on the front convoy lights to do with the 2 triangles in there and at certain distances they appear as one light but too close or too far they appear as 2 lights ???? Hence convoy so you are abe to keep a set distance...
  12. Need some experts here !!!!!!! I want to set up a demo of the front and rear convoy lights as fitted to American trucks such as the Jimmy. So I need to know how they should work, and, are the new repro ones fitted with the correct lenses to merge at the right distance ???????? Any help would be much appreciated.
  13. Jack if you don't have any success I can pop down over the 9th and 10th Aug, but would probably need to stay over 1 night and we might be able to sort it out !!!!!!!!! Looooong way though, but you are worth it .......... Let me know.
  14. Hi all got some time to myself,, phew no time to do anything at the moment. Well I have been looking after her with the stiff neck !!!!! Shooosh!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I reckon its all a put up act but don't tell her I said that ) I have also discovered that in our flat we have another room, I think its called a Kitchen ( dangerous place) lots of hot things and sharp knives....... been in there nearly all week, cant find any oil, grease, spanners only yellow rubber gloves, blue stuff in a bottle I thought was anti freeze but I am told its washing up liquid, goes in a bowl to clean dirt and grease off plates and things, well I usually use Gunk but better use this stuff as its here, and other scary things like a Washing machine, strange thing that is, you put in clothes add powdery stuff and turn knob thing on front, then after about 2 hrs its all comes out the same colour !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well back to the Kitchen wish me luck I am off to battle with the "Cooker"
  15. Quite right, the GMC starter has a mechanical foot pedal which engages the starter gear to the flywheel and then connects two big copper contacts together to energise the starter motor. This sits directly on top of the starter motor so the only connection you can see is the one connection that the battery cable goes on, the other connection is internal to the contact box on the top of the starter.
  16. Hmmm a rubber mallet yes I had one once, got wild with it too, don't ever throw one in a garage, I did, I threw it hard at the floor, it hit the floor then bounced up into the air like a rubber mallet would untill it hit the roof, but in between these two points was an 8 foot twin striplight....................... Well................:argh::argh: You would not believe how much tiding up the glass needed I was finding bits months afterwards... Now I throw things outside.....
  17. If I understand this correctly, it sound like there is a short in the loom somewhere ( unless there is something still switched on ) as when you take the wiring off the volts jump up and when it is connected again the volts drop, what you need to do is get a D.C. clip-on ammeter to see what current is being drawn off the battery to cause the volts to drop that much !! Also use a good charged battery as if there is an issue with a loom short on a good battery you can see by sparks when you connect the battery... Be careful could cause a fire. Ultimately get a vehicle wiring electrician to sort it out..
  18. Jack do this: 1-- Fit good known battery, well charged, reading over 12volts ish 2-- Remove clean and Vaseline all connections for all the -ve wires ie all chassis connections, then do up tight on clean surfaces. 3-- Remove +ve wire on battery and clean, Vaseline, re tighten, the other end should go directly to the starter, remove this connection and clean, Vaseline, re tighten. NOTE do NOT connect any other wires to the Starter connection. MOST IMPORTANT Remove fan belt so alternator can not turn, otherwise with its wiring disconnected it could get damaged. 4-- At this stage the only thing connected is the Starter motor, so by pushing the starter peddle on the floor the starter should crank the engine over, it will not start as there should not be any connections to the coil so no spark, so no start.... Try this if successful then move on to another bit, if engine turns over then fit your old battery and try again if it will not turn over you have a duff battery.
  19. Rambo do more cakes .......................... Wetter weather so more mud.......
  20. Ah ok I will try and listen out for you up at W & P, Will try to get round to see you...
  21. Sorry to here that you have probs again, is this a continuation of the rear light problem, might need to work through all the wiring connections and ensure all is well. For this problem start from the battery, get voltmeter connect -ve lead via a long good piece of wire ( to allow you to work in engine bay with the meter in your hand ) to -ve on battery, then with the other +ve lead work away from the battery, so next would be the connection on the starter switch, then the ignition switch incoming side ( switch on the ingition switch ) check the outgiong side then on to the HT coil and so on some of this to check if battery is good depress starter pedal and measure volts if drops below about 8 volts you have a duff battery, assuming all connections are good and tight/clean. Use Vaseline on the battery connections and also -ve chassis connections, clean off paint clean wiring end apply Vaseline and then do up tight no more problems with that connection. I have done this for years on cars and my truck and have never had any wiring issues. All the best.
  22. Could you put a bit of video on HMVF TV to show how noisy it is with the door open and also closed ?
