  1. I wonder if that's the same thing Clive, does it have an image? I haven't found any listing in any of my armoured vehicle books nor a wartime picture of one.
  2. On that subject, does anybody have literature confirming when the DP marked blackout fronts came into use? I assume it means 'dual purpose' as they are obviously intended as blackout or normal night driving with the flip up flap. I have always though of them as post-war but would like to know for sure.
  3. Indeed, you can fit a Butler rim to a Lucas shell but it's not so easy the other way round as Butler used a slightly larger diameter which I'm sure was no accident.
  4. Lucas and Butler used a different style of fitting on their lamps so though interchangeable as assemblies, the individual parts are not.
  5. It's a military shell but with a civilian front. The WD fronts were also marked B-WD-H1 and were a different shape.
  6. Jealousy is a terrible thing.........
  7. When I bought my Rogers from Army Cars in about 1997, it was the only one that hadn't been extended and likely overloaded with M47s! It was at the very back which made Bertus chuckle when I picked it......
  8. There were several manufacturers, I suspect some did and some didn't. Here is my spare plate, cast from an original.
  9. The tank clutch is a separate unit suspended on the engine on one end and the gearbox on the other. If you use one, you will need to come up with a support bearing to replace the gearbox.
  10. Yes, Alecto I, 95mm SP howitzer.
  11. I have a repro cast plate, I'll post a pic tomorrow.
  12. These tanks are likely from existing British stocks as they have no applique armour.
  13. The wing mirror mount should be on yours Tim, it was a standard fit on all British Shermans. It is only a piece of flat with a 3/8 stud sticking out though so easy to sort!
  14. Maurice is correct, M4A4, Sherman VC. The first vehicle at least is an earlier production tank rebuilt by Chrysler with all later mods before being issued to Britain. It's likely most of those in the picture were the same. Nice picture, could you post any more?
  15. Nothing like the Covenanter units Andrew. I made the repro units for the Hill 112 memorial Churchill Pierre-Olivier. I should qualify that by pointing out they were simple look alike units suitable for a plinth tank. They were not reproduction units in a true sense.
  16. Hooked shape thing is a bollard for US armoured vehicles, 1944 onwards, worth saving.
  17. It's an M4A3(75)W. Wet stowage for the ammo, hence no applique armour, late hull but still 75mm gun, though later high bustle turret. Bustle was raised to clear the larger hatches in the 56 degree hull. Mantlet is missing though!
  18. It's an internet only auction so less likely to be the usual auction fever, though there will still be a degree of button pushing at the last minute, they use the five minute rule too so that helps milk it out! As Maurice says though, with 16% premium and then 21% VAT, you have to add 40% to the hammer price, that makes a huge difference.
  19. That's an episcope upper element Bob, probably a No.8 but possibly a No.6.
  20. Or, as it's a tv program, probably best not to assume anything in it is based too closely on fact!
  21. Hi Jon and welcome in. The M4A4 is my favourite too but I am a little biased...... Thanks for your kind words! What's the web address of your site?
  22. Episcope No5 (7 no) and No6 (1 no) fit the first two types of all round vision cupola, as used in Cromwell, Churchill and Comet. The later type in Cent uses No 7 and 8 ISTR. They look very similar but are slightly fatter. It might be that there is no 8 and they also use a 6 but I would have to look it up! Having looked it up, I was right. Easy to pick up the wrong ones at a show......
  23. Episcopes were used in the all round vision cupolas fitted from 1944 in Cromwells, Churchills and Comets.
