  1. AFAIK no Shervick has been restored. There was a survivior in Belgium a few years ago though I do not know if it was rescued. As you say, Crawfords use a cut down M4A2 to plough with at shows and there are a few restored Vickers Vigor and VR180s which many people think are tank based though of course they are not.
  2. The FT17 was a small, 2 man tank weighing about 6 tons.
  3. Oh no, my googles are orange tinted, everybody will look the same!
  4. Hi Goran, David spoke of you often. He has moved to Scotland but still has the Ram! I will e mail you his contact details.
  5. You're right Tony, I suspect the appearance of one brings out the other....
  6. It can be a delicate balance. Some people really do seem to believe they are god in a hi-vis and some drivers feel the guidelines do not apply to them.
  7. It's a hard one to call. It will depend on how the museum concerned views it's collection. I was part of the team that restored to running two Comets. One for Parola in Finland and one for Munster in Germany. I doubt the vehicles have been run much if at all since as I don't think running vehicles is or was part of the museums policy. They were offered the 'restorations' in exchange for exhibits for Bovington and gladly accepted them for what they were but I wouldn't think they thought of them as long term runners.
  8. I'm not religious so be prepared for me to ignore everything you say....
  9. I remember it well, Nick was driving and a small dog in the car had a very lucky escape!
  10. The date of the colour change would have taken time to take effect in the factories. Existing paint stocks would probably have been used up first so in the end, it will be up to you! The brown would have been SCC2 and olive drab SCC15. This is not the same as US olive drab but is still a British Standard colour.
  11. There are 2.54 cm in an inch so 16.39 cc in a cubic inch (2.54X2.54X2.54). 520 cubic inches X 16.39 = 8.52 litres or 8522 cc. All US aircraft engines give their configuration and size in the same way. B-17 has a R-1820 which is a Radial of 1820 ci Some vehicles using engines of aircraft origin use the same system such as AVSD-1790, air cooled, V configuration, supercharged, diesel of 1790 ci capacity, or AO-895, air cooled, opposed cylinder, 895 ci.
  12. Hi Jim, it looks like an IO-520 though without a closer look it's hard to be sure. It should have a plate on it but I assume that's missing? It's also missing most of its accesories. IO-520 means injected opposed 520 cubic inches capacity. Fitted to a number of aircraft including Beech Barons and some Cessna twins. In the aviation world, in that condition it would be considered a boat anchor......!
  13. I wouldn't hold out much hope from Bovvy, they would be delighted to receive it as a gift but are unlikely to offer you anything for it. If you want to sell it, do so. Listed correctly, it would sell well on ebay or offer it to a collector well known for his German AFV interest and make a useful contact in the world of tank restoration!
  14. If it's mine Bodge, be careful where you put your feet, and your hands come to that!
  15. I'm happy to provide the tank for the naked lady to ride in.....
  16. If all those things happen when you demonstrate it John, you should be more careful! :-D
  17. That's a good one..... I knew my paternal, he served in the Royal Horse Artillery in WW1 though luckily (probably), he never saw action unlike his brother who died at Loos and his sister , a nurse who died in the flu epidemic after the war. My maternal grandfather was a Major in an ordnance depot in India. A lot of their work was assembling Jeeps from KD packs! He died in 1956 My wifes maternal grandfather was a Wellington pilot during WW2 and was awarded the AFC and DFC. He was sadly killed in a Varsity crash in 1954. Men I would have loved to have known.
  18. In reality, there are not many people doing heavy AFV work, especially structural repairs and part manufacture. I see this as a good thing! :-D We do not undertake any 'restoration' work per se, such as blasting, painting etc. I do that on my vehicles but we are not really set up to do it commercially. We do quite a bit of other work outside of the mv world, so have to try to keep a balance.
  19. Unless you find evidence to the contrary in your vehicle, I would paint it silver. White was used for a fairly short time during the war and silver again became the preferred colour.
  20. He knows I don't mean it.......:cool2:
  21. I would have thought paying 90p for a KitKat was an experience!
