  1. Nice idea, Rob. Well worth continuing. I presume the war diary you're looking at is a bit more detailed with stopping off points so you can retrace the route. Not sure if you can download the maps to use in print form or anything like that, Tony. But I haven't tried.
  2. You need to add Hair Cut to your list of wanted items.... I presume your particular Zeitgeist is Jack Daniel's.
  3. If a film can only be saved by it's props, then it is in serious trouble. Dog and breakfast spring to mind. Maybe they should have just shoved one of the Cheiftains up the firey beast's tradesmans. It gives a whole new meaning to Enter The Dragon. M
  4. I'm hoping things get better after last year's monsoon. I'm taking my ordinary car to carry full kit and ..also because I am minus an MV. zzzz. I'm there on Thursday, so I'll try and have a nose round then.....The only good thing about the mud is it controls the dust. But if the rainfall makes the Medway rise again, then camping near it should be amusing. Prepare for anything.....
  5. cheeky ba5tards I know what WiFi is.... I don't think there are too many hot spots of that sort around Beltring. It's a good idea. A Hop Farm internet cafe...... it might even be as good as our club house. I'll see what I can find out later in the week.... MB
  6. Nice to have you here Rob, There is also an Introductions and Welcomes section for any members who don't surf the CCCP end of the HMVF spectrum. So, feel free to say hello there as well. If you've won the lottery, I hope we'll see you at Beltring with the big Zil - otherwise, let us know what you're bringing before you set off. cheers MB
  7. Does lobbing petrol bombs at pigs constitute a hog roast? Dinner AND a show! I'll buy that for a dollar.

[quote name= Love the sound of a huey - unmistakable noise. Markheliops Is that the sound of someone throwing up behind the beer tent?:-D
  9. I will come and find you lads very early on to sort out a proper snapping session to take place when you're all ready. I've got a fifteen year old who is very keen to see what you're doing. I'm hoping to stay on line throughout the show if I can get access at the Hop Farm, so I can keep in touch with everyone right until you travel. I'm going Sunday morning and although I've got no MV this year - I'm planning to do a lot. So keep me in the loop to get snaps of your efforts on the event site and for future use on here and elsewhere. MB
  10. Welcome on board Rob. Look out for the HMVF gang at Beltring. Check the event board on here for info on our photoshoot and other gubbins...... pass the Jaffacakes MB
  11. What NCO club - we didn't have one in my day???? I don't think I've seen it while en route to the officers mess. Clearing it up last time was an unsightly affair. All that Dandelion & Burdock makes for a lot of trouble once the cigars are lit. Light blue touchpaper....etc. My local radio station was offering a diet training exercise called FART YOURSELF THIN last Friday - might prove useful for some people on this forum. God help us at Beltring....Keep away from the noodle bar after your Guinness! Don't remember them offering Beamish at Gingers... but there are plenty of alternatives. 'Bring your own' is always a good one! Here I am counting down to another week of oblivion...
  12. Hi Chris, We always welcome new input, especially of vehicles and collections far away from here. The Littlefield collection is one I have to see one of these days.... Mark
  13. The Canadians designated their Bombardier and VWIltis as the Ferret. But it actually means Polecat in literal translation from the German. It is the basis of the Audi Quattro. All the clever differential stuff went into the A1 Quattro and was modified further for the A2 and Sport Quattro rally cars all the road types are based on. MB
  14. It is a remarkable place. Walk down from the Hawthorn crater and then hike up the Redan Ridge and count the cemeteries.
  15. Welcome aboard, Peter. Post some pix of your vehicles when you have time, please. Mark
  16. OR???????????????? With biscuits, the answer is always BOTH. See you all there. Put the kettle on, Mark.
  17. Which is partly where the PoW's "Jonah" status comes from, which lasted until her demise off Malaya on December 10. Her gunnery was slow coming in to action leading the Hood to take a position she would not have been at otherwise. Hence the disaster. There will always be something about Hood, there will never be another (except in olde Star Trek). Imagine seeing a ship like that nowadays. Had she survived they'd have scrapped her anyway. No sentiment.
  18. Welcome aboard Doc, Hope you find plenty to interest you on the friendly forum. We do have a rule that newbies have to clean the clubhouse for the first part of their membership. Someone will send you a duty roster in due course. In the mean time, keep your muddy boots off the furniture in the lounge. It'll be you who will have to clean it. Someone else will be along to tell you about the dancing girls.
  19. Just watch your own vehicles.....the stories of people nicking for scrap proliferate. This poor girl will be in China before you can say Jack Lobinson. MB
  20. yes...adding to Lee, the previous weekend's pop festival is dictating site access and clearup. Nothing worse...they're making the most out of the place. Book now for HMVFWorld 2020 mb
  21. I will be on site from Sunday and will have a limited amount of spare space in my lockable Toyota Verso (once the tent and the yoof are out) if anyone needs to leave anything in moderate security in between trips. MB
  22. Sad to report the death of Charles W Dryden, one of the famous Tuskegee airmen - the pioneering black American fighter pilots of WW2. He died on June 24th and was 87 years old. God bless him.
