Regiment Identification on a FV1611 from Northern Ireland
Rover8FFR replied to Rover8FFR's topic in MV Chatter
This wont be on the army record card at Deepcut will it? LoL:-D. I have no idea what effect this makes on my purchase. Which is more famous military or celebrity roots. I find the thought of a military vehicle as a film star enchanting, but it's not quite band of brothers is it! The plot thickens! I will try and research the Minder archives also just for the novelty factor. -
Amasing and a true work of art. You are not a welder/ fabricator by any chance are you....Top notch!! Regards

question Assistance with Humber Pig Origins
Rover8FFR replied to Rover8FFR's topic in British Vehicles
Clive are you still going Saturday and did you want to do data plate search?? The passenger seat is just the frame with no material covers. also lids to battery boxes appear to be missing! Are these obtainable? May be another fabrication exercise! The drivers seat does have the seat base as well albeit it is coming away on the side where the sides are stitched together. You will need to tell me price of seat base/ headlight guards.... I will paypal money to you as before if that's okay. -
Welcome Always nice to see another Landie FFR on the forum. Very nice forum with more knowledge than you can shake a large stick at! Regards

If Deepcut doesn't work then it may be that Clive has answers if I am lucky. I have asked my CEO at Hereford TA centre if it means anything to him as he is 1st Grenadier Guards and knows more than most about the guards. He also served in NI. Fingers crossed. -

There goes my ignorance again.......Think Pig and automatically think NI conflict... When they were sold off weren't they all brought back for NI???? Thanks Clive.....Whats the chances of tracing history on such an old vehicle as Deepcut threw up a fat ZERO for my 63 Rover 8 24vFFR????:-( -
Does anyone have any ideas as to what these markings on my new toy stand for. There is also the remnance of another decal/ sign in the middle above the 2 visible ones hand painted?? Help!:undecided:

question Assistance with Humber Pig Origins
Rover8FFR replied to Rover8FFR's topic in British Vehicles
Clive Thanks for the help on this. We have established it is a FV1611A and where it was put together. I am sorry for missing the Data plate as I was a little tired and driving back home when I popped in to get the other details. Forgot to mention that the top lids for the front and side lockers are in the rear of the Pig so will definately be able to refabricate these and the wheel arches, which have perished. Do you have any clues on the div/ regt marking that are prevelant on the front nose/ rear doors. Also whilst the pictures don't clearly show FV1611A appears to have been painted a blueish grey over the DBG??? Any thoughts.. I attach as much for other Humber enthusiasts the pics I took yesterday afternoon. I am back at on Tuesday with Alan to collect the LTWT and will do the best I can to get the missing snaps/ info. I noticed the request for the front cab/ rear body join so will do my best to snap that. Cheers -
question Assistance with Humber Pig Origins
Rover8FFR replied to Rover8FFR's topic in British Vehicles
Lots of qusetions m8! I photographed what was obvious including chassis stuff. Couldn't access engine bay so can't assist further on that one with detail??. I am guessing from my simple research that it is a Mk1. (Didnt Mk2s have cattle grid on front?) It ha no signs of the lower protection panel that stopped squaddies getting ankles blown! I am still in Chelmsford tonight so if there is anything I can do on way back to Hereford let me know in advance of your commute. -
Forgive me but weren't the humber Pig APC's recalled and upgraded because of issues with the Sari in the 50's?? Don't get me wrong I have always loved the Saracen, but the more I read the more I want to walk away.....So I bought it's leveller and the father it wanted to be...The PIG.......At least they share the same snout! :-\ LOL

Rover Mk 8 FFrs as you have were not typically with the RAF in the 60's too much. A few did migrate across though! The best advice I can give is to keep it as genuine as possible. I am jelous in part though as mine is a 63 and I cannot trace it's history through the old records at Deepcut!!! However if mine was RAF then we are both in a similar area by default. Albeit I cannot find any Blue paint on mine even with 27,000 layers.....? Good hunting :cool2: and you are in the right place to get help.

question Assistance with Humber Pig Origins
Rover8FFR replied to Rover8FFR's topic in British Vehicles
Swift and bold....I was hoping you would be up first.... Jim is away until late July but I arranged a pop in today whilst in the South East on business and Christine was very helpful. I should have called you I guess as I had no idea about key #s over ignition??? Doh! The lockers are pretty much Kerry Packered, but I found inside on a bench seat the tops to them all so my local friendly founder will be able to knock something up. I can Survey them up and draw them in CAD he can then cut them out precisely on the CNC machine......Hurrah I can see this one coming along quickly???? I tried to look under engine covers but locked (square end key????). The pictures you talk about were shown to me by Alison and I felt very humble as she remembered the year by his overall colour and jumper colour.... Now thats a wife that noticed everything! Any help would be appreciated. Alsion said she thought it was an early one......I have no idea???? No passenger seat at all just a framework over battery tray... drivers seat appears to have a swab and back rest. -
Spoke to him today.... Thank You very much.... I went to see Alison today and met Ashley as well. Lovely people who are very Helpful in light of their recent loss! Ashley took me into the garden.........OH MY GOD!!!!!:shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked: I will say no more but as and when Alison, you and Ian get round to that area it will be an Aladins Cave. I could have bought another 2 special landrovers there and then.

I bought the series 3 LTWT that Clive was advertising recently that was owned by Dale Prior. I have been able to take some more photos and have a good poke around today (albeit with an eye only). I post some pics below to see what it throws up from you guys in the know on lightweights etc! Any assistance greatly received. Cheers
-
Well I took some pics of another aquisition today and need help on history, details, technical etc. This Pig used to belong to Dale Prior, who Clive has wrote about recently and due to extent of the late Dale's collection I have to wait to see if his lovely wife and son can track down the paperork / key. If not advice on a way of obtaining both would be much appreciated. I attach some images for everyone to help me get cracking. Thanks in advance

Military Machines International July 2010 - Highland fling
Rover8FFR replied to martylee's topic in Other Chatter
Marty surely your GF will pack the kitchen sink so what's the problem if you are taking it with you? LoL :-D -
I was purely curious and I don't wish to remove the 40amp gen. Keep it real as they say! If there ever came a time that the 40amp gen fell over and died and couldn't be replaced I would want to look at what alternatives I could apply to prevent the dreaded 12v alternator replacement..... I took my rectifier off the front panel carefully the other day and wondered how sensitive they are to being disassembled as the paint has been flaking off. Appears to be a miriad of plates washers/ spacers with electrical contacts etc........... Ooops sorry we are detracting from the B60 temp probe thread, which of course I now have an interest in........:cool2::cool2: PS did you meet Alan last week at Evesham???? I need to pop around and see him and would be nice to collect ATU parts.
-
Clive I am interested in this. Are you suggesting that it would be possible to replace a 40amp gen with a 90amp one in an old landrover mk 8FFR without massive issues...??? Curious thats all my friend. Regards:-\

Dunsfold Land Rover regularly repair Bakalite steering wheels that are cracked etc and they spray them up with 2 pac paint.......The finishes job looks pretty spanking....They didn't mention the filler to repair though. I would guess Epoxy putty would work well????
-
I believe LONGLIFE Exhausts in Cardiff will make pretty much any exhaust you fancy out of stainless and they love a challenge. They would only need something to copy from memory for a bespoke fabrication?? On the topic of reproduced parts.....Landrover Chassis repair sections that fit and are within sensible tolerance......Especially any panels that are connected with the Bulkhead!.....:cry::cry:
