  1. Forgot to post this last Thursday. Spotted on the way back from Swindon on A419
  2. Cheers Rog that is the same material I believe they touch up galv steel on construction sites where steelwork has been amended etc. Is it possible to see how your gates look as the web link suggests it is galv touch up or undercoat with a protective top coat. I guess I am looking to see how the finish is left bare compared to hot dipped galv finish. Thanks in advance. :-)
  3. Yeh! Some parts are with my friendly blast cleaner. Once back I will clean as you mention and have a go and probably update this thread with some pics of how they turned out. Watch this space as they say.
  4. Clive can you remember the make? Some appear to be better than others regarding longevity! Also did they resemble galv finish or just look live a silver paint? Regards
  5. Does anyone know where I could get some parts re-galvanised. I live in Herefordshire. Also I know that you can buy cold applied treatments in aerosol but do they work??
  6. The photo probably doesn't show the massive scale of these vehicles, especially next to a Smart Car! The driving position is certainly a good one, especially at that height. It was a nice treat to see after a long day in Chelmsford doing meetings. :cool2:
  7. Travelling very slowly but a MASSIVE vehicle. Unfortunately without an MBT :-D
  8. I guess there isn't much diffrence between Rover 8/1 and Rover 8/2 in simple mans thoughts. Very grateful for CES. Regards Wayne
  9. :help: Does anyone know where I could obtain some 6.50x16 or at worst 7.50x16 bar grips. Has anyone any experience of trying to match up old original pattern tyres for old military Land Rovers? Vintage 1963 on split rims Regards
  10. Clive do you have a CES that would cover my 24v Rover 8 please? Would make good bedtime reading when my new baby son decides it's time for food! Regards Wayne :cool2:
  11. Thank you one and all for the kind words. I like the sound of getting him a mini Land Rover. He would love that even if he is too young to understand yet!.........Ahh but he will. Regards Wayne
  12. Apologies for being out of circulation for some days now, but the restoration of my old Land Rover FFR has taken a slight back seat due to new arrival. He will off course be using a ratchet spanner before he can walk.......
  13. Thanks for that I agree that the engine paint is grey with a tint of green, possibly a lime ish colour. Comforting to see that it appears to be a correct installation for a 63 early FFR. :-D
  14. The more old paint I uncover on casings I am begining to think the colour is Eau-de-Nil BS216. It is definately grey with a hint of 'green'! Does anyone agree with me? :undecided:
  15. Took some more photos of the engine now I have done more stripping back. The timing cover is now clearly shown with its parts number. Not sure if these numbers refer to EMER references or civilian landrover parts. I noticed some bolt heads lock wired, but as this was the same on my ser 3 FFR assume it's a military detail? Also took pictures of casings with part numbers on bell housing, gearbox, transfer box etc. Also managed to uncover more of the engine paint colour that is a grey with a hint of green. Similar to RAL 9018 Papyrus White or is it BS216 Eau-de-Nil?
  16. Just spoke to Keith and got the SP. What a nice bloke. I think he is the legendary man that I was told about near Canon Pyon, living just North of there. I will be seeing him shortly and will advise of how I get on. He has suggested for straight forward cleaning who can do 2 axles in about an hour and that is £50.00. Basically he will do whatever he can in an hour and that's his rate. Obviously aluminium or sensitive parts can take longer, but the £50.00 per hour applies to pretty much anything. I might set him off with my split rim wheels, blasted and primed up!
  17. Ruxy mine is the 40A version and all the mountings, idler pulley are etc, all in-situ and you are right they look a little less robust to me from memory when I had a ser3 109 24v FFR. I even have a Solex carb in serviceable condition. mine originally had a zenith conversion. All the ancills are exactly as described in the user handbook 18358 issued March 1962, so happy with that. I'll get some pics this weekend whilst engine bay is a little better stripped back. Cheers
  18. It gets even more Bl**dy difficult Ruxy! Thanks for sharing the knowledge though! Do you know the prefix numbers for an FFR engine in case I come across one for spares / replacement in the future. Thanks
  19. Thanks Ruxy, but the question I am driving to is that should such a mark, whether it be QC or not be retained on an engine after manufacture. I haven't known of such ID on a civi landrover block, but would a military one be less of an issue from an aesthetical point? :undecided::undecided::undecided::undecided::undecided:
  20. Does anyone know how to establish the authenticity of a military Land Rovers engine from engine numbers?
  21. Probably the original would have been corroded and the PO has replaced the panel. There were 3 qty. panels used on mil. 2A 330950 (some Rover 10 & 11) 336466 - Suffix G onwards 336366 FFR (toastrack/ rectifier) Does anyone know where the part numbers might be stamped on the front panel if at all????:-(
  22. Cheers Dave. How do they work out costs for work. Is it based upon amount of grit used etc. Seems a daft question, but always good to have an idea! Can you suggest what you had done and cost? Send PM if private m8.
  23. Some more pics of my Sankey I bought localy off a builder for £60.00 Needs TLC
  24. That would be fantastic Dave and much appreciated. Someone mentioned a guy in or near Canon Pyon once to me but never tracked down who he was or where. Thanks
