  1. That's what sunroofs are for ! Well one of the things :cool2:
  2. Oh, the weather knows all right. That's WHY it's snowing
  3. I don't know the part Nos. but when I served on CVR(W) the fluid flywheel plugs, the hub oil filler/level plugs and the hull drain plugs all appeared to be the same. So most likely to have been used as a hull drain plug in your case. Don't know if this helps. :-)
  4. Some time last year someone mentioned 'Air Products' as a source of industrial gases. I have no personal experience of them, though. 'Chas.'
  5. As a bit of a Red herring, my black bottle and mug (I haven't checked the date) has a green 'strap' holding the top to the bottle. A 'hybrid' ? 'Chas.'
  6. I hope you have a set of cleaning rods, Black Powder will leave you with a 'bit of a mess' :cheesy: At least with gas, you wouldn't get powder residue, (but it wouldn't be as satisfying as slamming brass up the breech ) 'Chas.'
  7. Not much use, I know, because I don't know what we Are using, but we have the 'Gold faced' Noise limiting(?) boxes on our 439, (a Clansman fitted vehicle) Clansman harnesses, but no Clansman - no radios at all, in fact. 'Chas.'
  8. I can see that one! Deep in my old memory I have seen a picture of one of those being used. Fixed to the front of a stationary vehicle, with the cable running at an angle from the winch vehicle round the offset pulley, and straight to the 'casualty' off the main, central pulley. Used where for some reason, the winching vehicle can't get in the best position for a straight pull. Don't ask me what vehicles, or when ('50s I should think) that's all I've got. Someone will be along soon, with the full NATO part No. don't worry :-) 'Chas.'
  9. Tony, I discover you are in Northumberland, a bit far to come and crawl over our 439, unless you stray South sometimes. You are very welcome, PM me If you ever get anywhere near East Somerset/Wilts. Meanwhile, just ask for any specific pictures you want, and I will do what I can. Great model, by the way, excellent work. You must be Very patient. 'Chas.'
  10. Tony, Where in the country are you? Three years ago, when we first took the 439 out, we met some people who videoed us, (We didn't know!) and posted on Youtube There are 3 clips altogether. I must stress, I am Not 'Walrus' ! 'Chas.'
  11. That's why the original owners only fitted them when they were actually using the vehicles! 'Inter-metal corrosion' - Electrolitic or some such scientific term, reaction between the Aluminium periscope body and the steel of the turret. I clean them up, apply 3 or more layers of paint, allow to dry thoroughly, coat the 'joint faces' liberally with PURE silicone grease (Anything petroleum based, Vaseline, etc. will 'eat into' the rubber gaskets I hope you kept!) to keep water and air out, and refit. :cheesy: Purely by coincidence, I have a few periscopes available, at £55 for a set of 3. Obviously used condition. PM if interested 'Chas.'
  12. When I was taught to drive a Spartan, O.K. it was 20 odd years ago :-( I was advised to 'Clog the loud pedal' at the same time as the gear change pedal, when changing down, in the top half of the gearbox. It worked for me, even with my size 12s :-) 'Chas.'
  13. Lauren Child, post#10 "Tanks are like climbing frames for adults . . . . ." Brilliant! I Do like the focused, 'fit for purpose' build of military vehicles, especially AFVs and recovery vehicles - that's my 'feeling' 'Chas.'
  14. Result! Well done, devious buggers electrical gremlins, take some catching sometimes  Had an ignition problem that eventually stopped my sons bike completely. Turned out to be a loose earth connection on one of the coils. Threw up all manner of spurious indications! 'Chas.'
  15. MR. Barrell, 'Tiger Feet' _ Brilliant ! 'Chas.'
  16. Just a thought, you haven't got the 'Blackout' or 'Convoy' switches ON, have you? 'Chas.'
  17. Ross, I was on 'Crusader' and 'Lionheart', I think I may have some of the maps, still. I will have a look. It's 30 years ago + (Where does time go, eh?) PM me in a couple of weeks, If I haven't got back to you. 'Chas.'
  18. Andy, I seem to remember Green Hermatite from about 30 years ago, I don't know if that helps 'Chas.'
  19. 'On behalf of the estate of the late C.D.Watts' (Died in a helicopter crash about a year ago. I believe) Aldwick Court Farm, just off the A38, South of Bristol Airport 'Chas.'
  20. I was there too Bob. I saw Nothing in the military line that was worth anywhere near what it went for. £19k for the Chieftain, £20k for the SP Scorpion, £14k for the Abbot runner, £3500 for the Bedford MJ runner, but Not road legal, and £420 for the Peak Engineering GPMG turret for a 432. All + VAT 20%. Recession? What recession? 'Chas.'
  21. Just put a tatty red fez in with the feathers
  22. Logs me out, about once every 3 times I log in, and I'm on Chrome 'Chas.'
  23. Can I play, too? Sounds just up my street! Go on, gissa job, I can do that! 'Chas.' :cool2:
