  1. Well done! I want one! (And a Samson, and, and) What is it with these REME and RE bits of kit? I think I'm afflicted with - Oh, something or other. . . . .
  2. Robin, I HAVE ordered one, but it does say UNTESTED! I will probably end up trying to make one good one out of two 'duff' ones!
  3. That last one, post 7, was part of the Ferret and Saladin CES, I'm sure. Chas.
  4. Thanks Chaps. I expect the price for the one on E-Bay will rocket towards the end, 'snipers' you know! Robin, the only experience I have had is on CVR(W), you can tell by the 'whine' in the earpieces if the driver was on top of his game and was going to have a brew ready when we stopped. Chas.
  5. The latest in bird scaring equipment seemed a bit 'OTT'
  6. I Still can't get my head round ANYBODY classifying a CVR(W) Fox a GOODS vehicle!
  7. Has anyone got a drawing of the current BV (Cooking Vessel (Electric) No1. Mk2. FV706656) please? I dismantled ours, to see why it won't work, and found it had no element! Has anyone successfully obtained spares for these? If so, does the element come with any mounts, as all ours has left is one broken one. Is it easier, and more 'cost effective' to source another, complete, working example? Any thoughts on this, please people? Chas.
  8. The 'link' my contact in the Licensing Office was referring to appears to be on the BASC site, " The ACPO and BASC Guide To The Violent Crime Reduction Act, 2006" p36, 5(1)(ae) I put 'Glossary of Terms' in the search box, it came out 'Layout 1 . . . He definately said " 5 (1)(ae) and it does say except for "launching pyrotechnics". There must be a difinitive document somewhere, I just haven't found it yet. Chas.
  9. I phoned my local Police Firearms Licensing office and asked about the chances of getting a Section 5 Firearms Certificate for the smoke grenade dischargers that were kindly left on our vehicle (!) I said we wanted to give demonstrations of a smoke screen. The chap had to refer to someone not in the office, but when he came back to me he said, roughly, following an ACPO Firearms and Explosives Working Group, it had been decided that ,considering what they had been designed and used for ('Last ditch' cover to try to extricate onesself from hostile situations etc.) Smoke Grenade Dischargers on civilian owned, Ex military vehicles should be regarded as 'pyrotechnic launchers' and as such weren't looked at as coming under firearms legislation. I've looked on the ACPO website, but can't find anything, BUT on an ACPO/BASC glossary of definitions of prohibited weapons, referred to, by the chap I spoke to, I found 5 (1) (a e) reference to pyrotechnics that appears to cover these 'devices'. I will keep digging, and keep you posted. Chas.
  10. Saw this last Sunday, any good? DSCF7163.jpg (248.1 KB)
  11. Thank you Richard, more useful info. Thank you Andy, you must have a Huge library. What with Sir Clive's excellent articles (I've printed them all off!) there is a wealth of information on this forum. Thank you everyone. Chas.
  12. Andy, You've got some manuals, haven't you! Our, later, 439, with Plessey, diesel, 28V DC gennies, doesn't appear to have a BV plug by the back door (@ least, we haven't found it yet) There's nowhere to put the BV near there! We've been told that the BV in ours, lived up front, near the driver. (In the 'YoYos', I expected the BV to be steaming whenever we stopped, so a brew was ALWAYS an option!) I want something to use the nearly 100A, 24V that the gennies make. A compressor is way up the list, a 'fridge tray' for the beers is obviously @ the top, anyone got any other suggestions? A 'Gold Star' (Not the bike!) for the best idea! Cheers, Chas.
  13. Safariswing, thanks for the link to Clive's excellent article. FLUFF, any idea why 2 Kangos and a drill were part of the Abbot's kit? I understand the 'nut wrench'(?), with recuperators, gun balance springs etc. to be undone, but why Kango hammers, and a drill? Chas. (Intrigued!)
  14. Thanks for the replies. FLUF, that rings a bell, I vaguely remember something about 'Parralleling' up the pack alternators by changing a link over. There's a Power Tool Unit on a wiring diagram I've seen somewhere. On a similar note, does anyone know of a 24V compressor made by anyone? That I would find useful! Cheers, Chas.
  15. Has anybody ever seen a power tool used from this socket? What sort of tools were used? It Is 24Volts, isn't it? Thanks Chas.
  16. I've been trying to get hold of 'our' 439s V5, but the owner can't locate it yet. As far as he remembers : GKN-Sankey, Heavy oil, 'fully tracked' and not much else! This was less than a year ago, late November ish. Not saying where. The chap seemed to know quite a bit about similar vehicles, it seems to have been a case of letting him come up with something 'suitable' from a list he had in front of him, for his various questions. Hope this helps. Chas.
  17. In my post #13 I was talking 'bolleaux', sorry! I had another 'play' and of course, the fuel pump runs all the time the 'Ign' switch is ON, no matter where the gear selector is! Of course most people know this, I didn't want anyone to get a 'bum steer'. There must be a thermal cut out in the fuel pump then, or our pump is breaking down - oo, er. Chas.
  18. Robin, I noticed the 'dual badged' Chieftain. Did I see a 'Right hand drive' Leo 1 as well? Or were they all like that? Surely not a 2nd driver/bow gunner? I was there for a 'very small part' in those years, 1975-1987, Royal Yeomanry. As has been said, 'Happy Days'.
  19. Ours has been fine since I cleaned the filter in the collector tank. Bit of a 'pig' getting it out tho! There was a sticker on the pump saying it had been overhauled in 2004. When I checked for leaks after it had run for 40ish minutes, I was amazed how hot the pump motor ran, I could hardly keep my hand on it. Had a bit of trouble, turned out to be 'driver error'. Must be gear selector adjustment, I think. Don't ask me how, but it stalled, twice! When re-started, it 'ran out' of diesel. After ages, we found that even though the selector lever was in neutral enough to let the starter turn, the fuel pump wasn't running. Unless there's a thermal 'trip' that had chance to cool down and re-set? Time will tell ! Best of luck with yours, Andy Chas.
  20. 'Make-Firefox-Load-Pages-Faster' The ultimate irony? Taking AGES to load ! Nice one!
  21. cosrec, your posts are Brilliant! I'm sure I'm far from alone in finding this subject fascinating. Please keep it up. I have long thought I'm a 'frustrated Recce mech'. I've thoroughly enjoyed the times I've been involved in recovery, and lifting in general. I'm lucky, things have gone well when I've been the one to 'jump-in' and take charge of a situation! Great posts, Very informative, much appreciated. Chas.
  22. If our 439 is still running :-) ,we want to come, please! Chas.
