  1. bob sent this pic thru last night which shows the rad with shroud and fan attatched ready for a dry run fitting.
  2. been a while since my last update and things have progressed a little more since then. the engine compartment is looking a bit more crowded now and with any luck we will soon be starting the engine. the only big obstacle i can forsee will be the electrics but bob has assured me this is already in hand.
  3. good to see it under cover and being worked on, it broke my heart seeing it everyday on my drive rusting away and unloved so i'm glad you ended up with it. by the way i still have a handful of spares i need to give you, are you going to the next militaria fair ? rick
  4. thanks jim if you're ever up manchester way you are more than welcome to come and have a look, believe it or not it's actually in better shape than it looks. all the best rick
  5. like john i can't help with any knowledge other than to advise you to read the war diary but i also have a mk4 churchill or should i say the remains of one and if i can help in any way just let me know. rick
  6. :-D it just occurred to me where langsett reservoir is. i dragged the family round there last year on the pretence of a family walk but really i was looking for evidence/ tank parts from the old range. didn't find anything but it was a lovely walk. bout time i went back i think rick
  7. a forum member dug up 6 covenanters a few years back from a range in the west country but nobody wanted them as they were considered beyond hope and all 6 went to the scrapper, how things have changed since then. hope you find the one you are looking for. rick ps. welcome to the forum
  8. thanks richard. it will make a great display and definately something that is not often seen. rick
  9. the upper part of the bogies is still in the yard waiting for me to get round to collecting them which i'll do one day. now that i know what they are for i might put them back together ( i only cut the u bolts to remove the axles) it would make an interesting display of REME in action. here's a link to the pic that first alerted me to their whereabouts, sorry but i can only do a link as the pic won't download. rick http://community.webshots.com/photo/fullsize/2753899610053353449qWxmOz
  10. you little beauty ! i didn't know what they were but i bought 2 of theses tracked carriers from nelson green's yard last year mostly because they use bren carrier track and wheels and i needed some spare. i've since found another tremporary use for them thanks for solving a mystery for me.
  11. sorry mate but i can't help out as bob's got my copy at his yard in wigan.
  12. cheers stu well worth a look, they've got some great stuff.
  13. for those amongst us who don't yet own a tiger manual here's a detailed report dated 43' (on the tiger that eventually ended up at bovy) and makes for an interesting read http://northirishhorse.net/tanks/PzKfwVI/Report.html
  14. i could do with one of them for my mk6 cs cromwell. (the words rocking horse and sh1t come to mind) rick
  15. most units would have a tailor on camp who would modify kit for a small fee, i remember padded elbows for combat jackets were a favourite for range days and exercises. rick
  16. comet wheels from a wreck on kirkcudbright might be a good place to start.
  17. look on milweb or the classifieds of classic military vehicle mag, i'm sure i've seen mj's for the £3-4k region. like you i was looking for an mj last year but decided to opt for the daf instead, it's not as simple or bomb proof but it is much nicer to drive over any kind of distance. trust me when you hit 50 in a bedford the steering wheel will shake violently which can be quite exciting down hill with a trailer. i bought 2 daf's for £1850 each from withams tender and both were in good shape. if you want bomb proof go bedford if it's driveability go daf. good luck with the search i'm sure you'll be happy either way as both trucks are good it's only a matter of how much money you part with. rick
  18. if it ain't raining, it ain't training to be honest it wouldn't bother me if it was raining fire and brimstone nothing would get in the way of me if there was a chance of getting stuck into a range churchill, although to be fair there were only large chunks of tank ! of which the gearbox was the heaviest but beggars can't be choosers and it was definately worth the effort. all in all a great day and i look forward to the next. rick ps. the other guy was andy ferretkit
  19. nice driving, i'd love to take the carrier to an off roading event :cool2:
  20. there's not much progress to report other than it is still sitting in my yard waiting for the shelter to be built. although i have been busy collecting track and suspension parts from the four corners of the country my main focus is the cromwell and until that is finished the churchill will just have to wait it's turn but don't worry i won't lose interest in it, infact i'm getting more hooked the more i look into it. what can i say "i just really like churchills" and as soon as i can acquire more then i will :cool2: rick
  21. here's a mk1/2 churchill turret on broadwater warren rspb nature reserve. beats looking at tits all day (only a true churchill nut could say that)
  22. great dealing with you tom, a real easy transaction (you'd make a great ebayer) as for the engine that is entirely upto you to decide but the original v8 that i removed from it to fit in my carrier will be available once the new 24 stud is ready to go in somtime around xmas. it's only my opinion but i reckon if you intend to use it regulary then chuck a diesel in, if it's just for going to the odd show then put it back to it's original v8. all the best rick
  23. great news mate, you might be able to enjoy it soon
