  1. It's a volvo B 18 motor with a Volvo M42 gearbox.The clutch plate is a 8.5 ins single dry clutchplate.

  6. We had a EB while i was in MT.Twas my baby 03 FZ 44.A lovely bit of kit if looked after and no biffs let loose on it.
  7. Peaked cap or beret and white belt were normally worn in barracks,garrison duties or on exercise.Now a days while in a "war zone" they dress the same as everybody else.Helmet and the like.

  9. The TN 12 baffles me as well...all i know is it's big,heavy and normally black with oil and soot and i hated doing the twiflex coupling from underneath the panzer.

Our way of sleeping on the back decks were......Barrel fully elevated.Don 10 from the barrel pull back anchor point above the mantlet to end of the barrel.Tank sheet over the top tied at the bottoms to the tool bins.As i was the driver .....roll out the green maggot on the gearbox decking.Open a yellow handbag and relax.
  12. All our tanks had names in the 80's in the regiment.A sqn had names beginning with A and B sqn B and so on.They were never stenciled on though.A big list was kept in RHQ of the names.In the latter days of the 80's it became fashionable the stencil them on again.

Not a ? but a stupid remark.Was sat in a pub on leave one dinnertime havin a pasty and a pint.The landlord asked how long i was home for.Next to me was one of the local biffs who was half cut.He remarked when he was in the army they used to parachute 2 x chiefy's out of the back of a C130 Herc.Then he asked me what Reg i was and what i did.So i told him......Royal Tank Regiment and i was a driver.Oh,sorry i can't chat says he i have to be somewhere and left rather fast.

  17. On page 8 the pic of the Chieftain.........one of HQ Sqn's tanks 3 RTR.It's either the CO's tank or the 2i/c.I know nearly all of them bods in that pic.I'm also proud to have been on the longest p*ss up in history:D
  18. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.Doesn't the military have Crown excemption on most things.Like C and U regs? Hence chieftain never had brake lights or indicators and seat belts.
  19. I was there.That was a pic from that day we visited.The yellow one was running as we were there.
  20. Been there,got the t-shirt and drank the soup.......got the shower from night replen from cans.Loader missing the filler hole and filling the turret ring.There's a knack to up ending cans into the filler holes and some people didn't have it...lol
  21. I'd love to drive a Chieftain again now after all these years and get more than a mile before it broke down..........lol.
