  1. Alastair I must disagree with your comments above, you are employing General Hindsight. It is quite easy from 2012 and look back at others efforts that with the benifit of the officer quoted. Circumstances, mind sets, proceedures, the imperatives of war make decisions that today we may conclude were wrong. Of course some aspects of AFV design are not, err what shall we say 'not quite right'. To lump it all together in a sweeping statement is a little harsh on those engineers who did not have all the technical advantages that we have today.
  2. If I may, I would not sandblast off those original registration numbers, work round them if at all possible.
  3. Now now boys and girls, you can't have this stuff, its nearly 20 years ago..... This is the last one on the yard at Gamston for now, I will search further.
  4. Same place but now we are outside, what gems can we see ?
  5. The inside of AF Budge's Gamston warehouse in January 1993.
  6. A good friend of mine watched it who was a driver on an Abbot. His was 07EB35, it would be nice for him to know what became of it, anyone know ?
  7. How about this lot! All gone to new owners or scrap ..............
  8. The numbers were mostly painted over with black paint. it soon got washed off with thinners after delivery. The Abbot in the background was next to go onto Frank's wagon.
  9. It was another Abbot, not that one which we must not mention.
  10. Answers John; Please don't mention that Abbot, quite embarassing..... Robin; It was one of the depot staff driving it, I was the photographer, I don't recall the number but I will have a look in old diaries to see who ended up with it. All that stuff behind was sold off, a Tender Sale got rid of everything.
  11. This photo from March 1993 shows a Scorpion that I had purchased by tender being loaded onto the late Frank Derricks lowloader. Posted justed for your interest.........
  12. I put one on a public weigh bridge in 1995 (ish) 15.2 tonnes and a Mk1 432 was 12.5 tonnes
  13. The Abbot driving down a road with others is (or was) 07 EB 10, anyone know what happend to this one ?
  14. Another con...... The DUKW had supposidley not run or moved for ages but when it was reversed out there was grass under it that was just the same apperance as all the rest of the grass. Vehicle was placed there just for the video.
  15. Thank you I will give it a try..............
  16. I need to colour/dye/paint some canvas, did it work ?
  17. I was taken to the location of the Covenanter in the mid 1990's. I took a photograph but at the moment I don't know where it is. I will see what I can find..........
  18. Google Sreet View, no good whatsoever, the lazy mans way of doing Then and Now comparisons. I have been on this T&N caper for 40 odd years on the old Western Front. The Now photographer needs to stand on the exact spot, give or take a yard and take numerous shots, one of which is selected in comfort of ones armchair by the fireside..... There is no empathy with the subject unless you are on the ground looking at the location with the old fashioned Mk1 eyeball.
  19. For 'cotter pin', read split pin............. Akurassy please.
  20. .........and very good was the work.
  21. Alian FTM......."the Kaisers 'unbeaten' field army" are you sure about that ? 8 August to 11 November 1918, pray tell me of a German victory during the 100 days. Yes I know there is no such thing as a victory in war but I am sure you get my drift on this.
  22. What great knowledge you chaps have..........
  23. So perhaps this Ford has had a Chevrolet cab fitted at some time ?
  24. Nick That looks like the one I have but I don't (or want) have the trailer, thanks for posting the pic.
