  1. I have recently taken delivery of a couple of No 27 Ammunition Trailers of which one will be restored for a Museum. The other I am restoring for my 17 pdr A/T Gun,after some research it seems quite a few 17 pdr's were towed behind the No 27 Limber but did not carry the Ammunition for the gun. I would assume due to the weight of the piece the limber was used to act purely as a brake. Any other idea's ? Rob..........................rnixartillery.
  2. Although this thread is getting away from its origin I must add there is a Great difference between museums registered as charities, government funded etc and Private museums and collections. There is no help for the private collector ,every thing has to be sourced ,bought, restored and paid for .I have much more respect and admiration for the handfull of private funded museums and collections. 3. You are looking in the right places so be patient and what you are looking for will come along ! Rob.......................rnixartillery.
  4. Michael Savory has friends in very high places and he has also been in the game for a long time . He has scourced vehicles and Artillery from across the world . We are trying to contact on old dealer ( Ian McGregor ) who went out of the business years back. This is in relation to a project Michael is currently planning. 5. The Light gun belongs to Battle front ( East England Military Museum ) They have taken it to W&P a few times in the past, the L119 that the Cannon super store in the States has sold recently was not badly priced but when you add shipping and duty etc it does start to get expensive. 6. Better equipment maybe, better knowledge no.There's an awful lot of trades and skills slowly dying off with time. modern machinery has taken over from skilled workmanship, and if you actively restore vehicles you will realise this. Anything can be restored if you have that skill or you can find someone who has ! Rob.....................rnixartillery.
  7. Funny you should say that,I work for Balfour Beatty on the North Yorkshire County Council Contract and I am a street mason by trade ( lay kerbs, flags, cobbles etc) last year we were asked to pay more into our pension funds to cover the present short fall ,after thinking about it for a while I decided to stop paying all together. If the local authorities can't afford to pay pensions now who is going to pay my pension in 30 years time (if i live that long ). Soooooo I plough what ever I can afford into my Collection, atleast then I have assets and inheritance for my two children. I'd better stop ranting ! Cheers Rob...............................rnixartillery
  8. Dave, My miss'es is the same ,she can't quite see the beauty in any of my Artillery pieces, she thinks its all scrap.......................beats collecting stamps though ! Yes I do have the blindfire trailer and loads of other crap that goes with it but I have not restored it yet. Cheers Rob..........................rnixartillery.
  9. These guns have all been destoyed now but some smaller parts did find there way back !!!!!!! Rob..................rnixartillery collection.
  10. Nice one !!! Great to see the original leather sadle also. Rob.........................rnixartillery.
  11. Hi Marc Welcome to HMVF,Im pleased you got the gun OK. It would be interesting to find out how many 6 pdr's are in preservation today ! but we do know of two for sure . I will keep you posted if anything turns up my side. Kind regards Rob...............................rnixartillery.
  12. I think I have found a complete FH 70 that is going to be broke for spares shortly so all parts will be available ,when I hear more I will let you know. Sleep tight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool2: Rob..................................rnixartillery.
  13. I finally managed to un-bury the 25 pdr last week and made enough space to get the barrel changed. The gun has been in the back of my workshop for about 10 years so it was nice to get it uncovered. The barrel that was on the gun was in a very poor state as the pictures show and a colleague of mine was kind enough to get me a new one still in its packing crate, so i took the opportunity to replace it. The existing barrel had a hole burnt through the jacket and barrel beneath the counter weight so seperating the two was going to be tricky , I opted for a new Jacket also. Biggest problem of all was the lack of work space so I used an engine lift and a couple of small trollies to move the barrel and jacket around on. I think it is a two man job really but managed to crack it on my own. Just need to blast, paint and fit the Brake. Pics of strip down and the gun re-assembled today. 14. Yes Frank you are correct that is the General Electric emblem visable and its solid brass so should polish up nicely. Mike, I only have space for the Guns !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rob........................rnixartillery.
  15. Steve I would like to aquire a couple of WWI artillery pieces to add to the collection, preferably British Guns. My goal is to have a collection of Artillery from the past 100 years. I have a couple of leads to follow but like many before they have been a wild goose chase ! Rob.........................rnixartillery.
  16. A Rottweiler and a baseball bat seems to do the trick ............................! Yes Eddy, quota this year met. There are a few more artillery pieces I would like to find but space is an issue,I would also like to get into Horse drawn Artillery and these pieces demand higher prices. Did you ever get out to Poland ? Rob..................rnixartillery.
  17. The gun has all of its brass plates still attached which is quite a rarity but they don't have the date of manufacture stamped on them just serial marks,It looks like it was built in 42 though. I'm sure when I take it to bits it will tell me more ! Rob...................rnixartillery.
  18. Latest addition to the collection arrived today, unfortunately after being dry stored for donkeys years it got extremely wet due to the British climate. The gun is a Canadian 3.7 heavy AA gun built by Genelco,I believe it to be ex-portugees and most probably bought back to the UK in the late 1980's. It will be restored..................one day !!!! Rob.......................rnixartillery.
  19. If you need to know about these weapons technically you would be best buying manuals. You can buy good reprints from Rob van meel and he has both 6 pdr and 17 pdr manuals in stock. Although there is quite a few books covering the 6 and 17 pdr's you will find some of the contents regarding these guns is not always correct ! Rob.......................rnixartillery
  20. Mark , there is a few examples of the ZSU-23 and ZPU-23 in the UK.Several in Barracks that were captured in different clashes over the years. One is on display outside the Royal Marines museum at Portsmouth. RnR Services had a rough one for sale at War and Peace last year but it was not complete and had the wrong guns fitted . I have been looking for one of these to add to my collection for some time now and I think the best route to ownership would be to have one bought back from Poland where there seem to be several dealers 'knocking them out'. I was quoted 5K-7K for one but I don't think I would pay more than 4K. Rob.........................rnixartillery.
  21. Timbo, I only bought this gun because I think it was reasonably priced, the FH70,s have increased in price slightly over the past couple of years. This will due to its size live outside ,I won't be looking for the tractor to tow it as my guns rarely leave home so I have no need for it. Rob........................rnixartillery.
  22. Hey Dave, Don,t worry ,we all have a fetish of some sort and yours just happens to be boxes !! :cool2: Rob...........................rnixartillery
  23. The APC in the pic is a prototype built be Vickers called a 'VALKYA' it belongs to a guy I know who also has the Vickers Mk11 advertised on Milweb at the moment. Rob.....................rnixartillery.
  24. My Project was located in the UK but took almost two years to conclude a deal to purchase the piece. These guns are extremely hard to find and VERY sort after,I was very suprised to see the one on milweb for sale but I'm sure it will fetch a high price. I doubt it will come to the UK though. Rob........................rnixartillery.
  25. Hi All, I have just picked up an FH70 to add to the collection and looking for a good complete dial sight and some new seats.I have tried Marcus and Bannisters with no joy. If anyone knows where I may find these parts I would be greatful. Anyway this is it !! Rob.........................rnixartillery.
