  1. Hi Peter Can you get any photo's of the guns ? Rob.......................rnixartillery.
  2. MMMMMMM....That must have hurt !!!!!!!!!
  3. I have been forwarded these pictures from a colleague who has just taken delivery of a very unusual gun,It was made by Vickers in 1931 as a prototype. It has a bore of just over 4 inch and built up of many bespoke componants. It resides at the Sunderland air museum. Rob........................rnixartillery.
  4. Hi mike Yes , you are correct the block is missing and there are a few other parts I will try to find. It has been de-act also and its quite a big lump,it measures 28 foot in length. It would be nice to find a case and projectile for it !:cool2: Rob...............rnixartillery.
  5. I took delivery today of a Soviet D44 85mm Anti-Tank gun, after some research in to the gun I realised how similar it is to the 17 pdr and came to the conclusion that it was the Soviets answer to the 17 pdr. Designed in 1943 the gun entered production in 1945 and ran til 1953. As I already have a 17 pounder I though it would be an idea to have what I think is its counterpart. The D44 I acquired will have to under go a full restoration, many of the parts are seized and there are a few bits missing so they will have to be sourced probably from poland (if anyone is going that way !). I have had a quick look over the gun to try and find a date of manufacture and although it has a multitude of markings I have not found anything,it would be nice if it was early production. If the seller is viewing this thread can I thank him for an easy transaction. Pics attached of the new addition Rob...................rnixartillery collection.
  6. Mark Last year we had some fresh guns arrive at Catterick, both ex-Falklands War trophies. One has been through ABRO had a fresh paint job and know resides outside a barracks the other has been dumped in the corner of a parade ground . They had come from a regimental museum that closed somwhere 'down south'. The gun on the parade ground was liberated from port stanley. Rob.........rnixartillery.
  7. How long were these two variants in service for ? I know Ron Truscott had both variants in his carrier collection on the IOW but I wonder if there are any in private hands today. They must have had several roles but in one of the pictures it showes one used as an artillery tractor. Rob.......rnixartillery
  8. Just flicking through some files on the pc and came across some pictures of the Oxford Carrier. Thought it would make an interesting thread. Were they intended to replace the Windsor and where have they all gone ? Rob......................rnixartillery.
  9. This is the Gun,There seems to be quite a few of these guns in the States. Rob...............rnixartillery.
  10. mmmmmm' you could be right ! :nut: Rob...................rnixartillery.
  11. Hi Pete Thank you for your kind offer,I have sent a private message. I wonder how many 6 pdr's are out there ? Rob...........rnixartillery.
  12. There is a very nice original example still on spokes in the 'Firepower' Museum, they also have the later conversion. Rob...............rnixartillery.
  13. Hi Mike Yes ,I followed the lead. Very nice bloke to talk to but as usual I was a couple years to late, I do know were the guns went though. One of them was a very rare airborne conversion but still missing its barrel, block etc. I'll keep looknig ! Thanks Mike. Rob........................rnixartillery.
  14. I picked up a 1921 dated manual for one of these last month,a very rare manual indeed, downside is that it is written in URDU. :help: Rob......rnixartillery.
  15. Ivor, I see your museum bought the C9B, I was partly interested in the vehicle when it was up for sale a couple of years back. If I remember correctly part of the gun fibre glass, I may be able to help with the gun so if you send a pm I will give you a colleagues number who has a couple. Rob............rnixartillery.
  16. Les I got my Naval Bofors from a friend who had two,the better one was sold and mine was to be scraped as it was in very poor condition. But I thought it would be ashame for it to be brocken up and I think I spent more on it than its worth (who knows). Anyway I was told that the two guns had come from the Isle of White. :undecided: Rob....................rnixartillery.
  17. I don't know if many of you have heard the sad news that Tony Budge had passed away last week. The guy was a major boost to the military vehicle movement and along with Bob procured an amazing amount of vehicles and equipment. A true legend and a Gentlemen. I would like to offer my condolences to family and friends. Rob........rnixartillery. Mod edit... threads merged
  18. Les Attached are a couple of pics of two of my Bofors, The 1938 mod L40/60 and the post war naval mount. The mod 38 came from budge ( that long ago I can't exactly remember ) which I have restored,A really precision made piece. pictured on the movie set of 'Attonement'. And the Naval mount was saved from the scrap man, many of its componants are aluminium so it was an ideal choice for an outside ornament. Pictured before and after. Rob........................rnixartillery.
  19. Thanks Guys. :kissoncheek: Rob.........................rnixartillery.
  20. Hi Dave I do as much as I can myself. stripping, fabricating, welding and spraying ,it can be a pain in the arse sometimes as i am 'a one man band' and some times you need two pairs of hands, which is when 'her in doors' helps out and a great job she does too. I have a great deal of turning work done, it seems with Artillery that lots of the little bits are worn out, brocken or missing so I know this guy who is an absolute magician on the lathe . It is not easy finding parts for these guns so normally the parts have to be fabricated. As this is my hobby the more I do the cheaper the finished job. I restored an American 105mm M2 Howitzer last year and wanted the cleaning staffs for the Barrel, couldn't find any anywhere so I made them. Rob...................................rnixartillery.
  21. You beat me to it ! :cheesy: May I thank the staff for their kind understanding towards us gunners and the problems we have. If you cant pick it up,its a real Gun ! :nut: Rob................................rnixartillery.
  22. Hey , Safariswing, maverick,R cubed, I know you all have large weapons (that will make them feel good). are you going to sign up to an Artillery section !!!!!!!!!. Rob............................rnixartillery. :whentitsdone:
  23. Hey ! Can we have a section devoted to Artillery. I know we are in minority but we are out there. :-D Rob......................rnixartillery.
  24. 'ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT' :wow: Rob.......................rnixartillery.
  25. Mike. The boxes are full of ex government NOS nuts and bolts,When I restore I like to if possible re-new all fixings like for like. However these old sizes are getting harder to find. As for 6 pounder parts I can't find much at all,so its a case of 'make do and mend'.:undecided: Rob.........................rnixartillery.
