  2. Doug,we spread rock salt on the road very finely about 10 to 20 grams per square meter, the idea being once driven over by traffic it breaks down and disolves. On compact snow and ice we spread winter grit for traction, this does end up on the roadside .My area covers some of the highest roads in England, the A66 motorway,Butter tubs pass and the Tan hill pub (highest pub in England) :cool2: I could write a book about some of the things I have seen from my Gritter cab ! Rob....................rnixartillery

  6. A fellow collector of mine over in the states has recently restored a towed 4.2" Mortar to add to his British Airborne collection.Apart from the fact he has done a cracking job on the restoration it is also capable of firing. The flare in the mortar round is so he can find it ! Rob......................rnixartillery.
  7. Thats correct the initials of the manufacturer, most boxes are quite common such as the 25 pdr P59,P60 but there is a small number of boxes that are very hard to find and fetch high prices especialy the wood variety. :cool2: Rob........rnixartillery.
  8. Never turn parts away Alastair, they aren't always there to be had ! :nono: Rob.....................rnixartillery.
  9. P60 boxes carry four 25 pdr AP rounds,The C238 carried four 6pdr AP rounds amongst other rounds. I would assume you have been on e-bay ! Rob..................rnixartillery.

  12. FL is the prefix to 25 pdr part numbers and there is several types of Block but the two you have are not 17 or 25 pdr. The ones you have look a bit more suffisticated and modern. I restored this 25 pdr block and FNA over the weekend. Rob....................rnixartillery.
  13. Ralph Yes,'Firepower' is an excellent choice of museum to visit and houses a very comprehensive collection of Artillery and I think is one of the UK's Finest collections, especialy for us like minded folk ! :nut: Did you get time to call in to Fort Nelson while you where at Clives ? They also have an impressive collection of Artillery. As for my collection, its constantly expanding and there is always something to do but I have a few gaps I need to fill so I am looking further afield for several items ! Rob......................rnixartillery.
  14. Thankyou for the correction Ralph, this type of Artillery is "right up your street" so to speak. Whats new with you ? Rob.....................rnixartillery.

  18. Very close Clive although limbers of that era were constructed very similar.I bet the limber has a very interesting History Rob,can you trace where it came from previouse to the scrap yard ? Rob...............rnixartillery.
  19. Ralph, I actually though about you when I saw the limber pics,do you think its German ! :cool2: Rob...................rnixartillery.
  20. Definitely not 6 pdr Rob although the angle of the trail is similar, could it be some sort of prototype ? No idea with the limber. Rob..................rnixartillery.
  21. Alastair, the ammunition boxes shown in the drawing could be either the 4 or 6 round airtight containers, these are very hard to find these days. David, A nice straight case with no dings is worth about £20. Rob.................rnixartillery.
  22. Alastair,I took a couple of pics of the few rounds I could get too,I have more but they are buried under loads of crap ! Pictured is a C263 ammo box and the 6 pdr tool box that is listed in the spares book,Rounds from the left are APDS,DRILL,HE,AP and another APDS. The second pic showes a very unusual B166 box stenciled to take 6 pdr Blanks, dated '44. If I unearth anymore I will take some snaps. Rob.....................rnixartillery.
  23. I was born and raised at Biggin Hill but had to move up North with my folks aged 14,I can always remember even now how well kept The RAF base was and how iconic the two planes were, Just as a mark of respect they should be looked after or turned into some sort of Memorial to all those who fought in the Battle on Britain . Good luck with your request. Rob......................rnixartillery.
  24. Thanks Alastair. I know when you are working through a long term restoration that it seems to go on for what feels like forever but its all about preperation and if a jobs to do its worth doing right if you cut corners you will end up regreting it later ! The limber carries 16 trays each carrying two rounds ,32 rounds in total. Pics attached Rob.......................rnixartillery.
