  1. This is the standard Panoramic sight and fits most US artillery,105mm,155mm and Long Tom etc. I also bought several from Chris as they are in excellent order and can only get harder to find. I do have one spare if anyone is looking for one.(there's alot of one's in this sentence ) Rob.........................rnixartillery.
  2. Here are some detailed pics of the Sherman taken the day we pulled it from its grave. This really turned out to be some task ,it took me 10 minutes to locate this Sherman through memory of where it stood 10 years previous and about a week to recover it. Once the pit was dug we turned it over onto its belly, dug the ramp and pulled it out. If I remember correctly the hull weighed 48 ton full of concrete and the turret 8 ton which is why it was seperated on sight and moved in two loads. The remaining Churchills on the surface had been robbed of there guns and mantlets about 9 years ago,all cut out. The remaining parts were removed about 3 years ago,I have been told that the parts have gone to aid several restorations. Rob...........rnixartillery.
  3. What a Great picture,I have one of these guns on my wanted list and even managed to track one down, unfortunately I can't pursuade the owner to sell ! Rob...............................rnixartillery.
  4. I believe the armoured car is now in Ireland and belongs to a colleague of mine.it will be restored. It did come from Ian who imported tons of kit in the 90's. Rob.........................rnixartillery.
  5. 'BRING ON THE REVOLUTION' :goodidea: Rob...............................rnixartillery.
  6. Great pictures,There's not many pictures floating around showing the 17 pdr,so its nice to see fresh images of the piece. The gun sight on e-bay is not correct for the towed gun . Rob............................rnixartillery
  7. :cool2: Right place, right time Rob, as is so often the case in this game! You are quite right Adrian, its all about timing. I landed 17 and 6 pounder A/T Guns through being in the right place at the right time. You win some, you loose some ! Rob.
  8. Adrian, I also tried for years to aquire this M10 but was told each time that it was not for sale. The carrier was completely gutted but had excellent tracks and running gear. Did your friend also buy the pirate ship !!!!!!. Rob....................rnixartillery.
  9. Crets, The manual I have for the 17 pdr is more of a user manual than technical and does'nt offer much info into the gun,the 17 pdr is very similar to the 25 when it comes down to strip, quite simple. I may be able to take some close up pics of the sight mount for you if you wish. The majority of gun equipment fitted to the piece is the same as the 25 pdr such as tool and spares box, tools etc,I do have some spare wartime dated bill hooks and oil cans. Tim, I hope you are well, what 2 pdr parts are you looking for ? I thought the land of OZ was full of 2 pdr's but it seems they are in demand every where you go ! I have been collecting bits and bobs for the 2 pdr just incase I get lucky one day and find one. Rob.................rnixartillery collection.
  10. Apart from a few pieces that went to museums in the states these guns have now been destroyed !!!!!!!!!!! Rob.......................rnixartillery.
  11. Yes ,it was only by chance the 17 pdr sight mount came along. I was at the time restoring my 105mm L5 pack howitzer and looking for a looooong list of bits for it ,I contacted a colleague in the states with a wants list and he sent me pictures of long lines of artillery captured during conflict in Iraq. In the photographs it showed artillery lined up ready to be de-commisioned and then cut up,in these pics were 105mm L5's ,25/17 pounders and an assortment of German Artillery pieces dating back to WWI. The Iraqi national guard may aswell been throwing stones at the allied armour !!!!!
  12. Thanks for the comments, all of my guns are tucked up at night inside apart from one which I have outside my workshop. leaving these things outside to the elements does them no good. Cheers Rob............................rnixartillery.
  13. The gun was striped right down and refurbed, there was a bent trail and light fire damage other than that it had been robbed of componants, sight assembly etc. I have been collecting parts for this project for about 10 years and its now complete thanks to a colleague locating the sight mount whilst out and about in Iraq.!
  14. Transfer from another thread. This is my 17 pdr ,pics taken last year. It is now finished with its accessories, the sight assembly I have on it was removed from an Iraqi National guard 17 pdr that was used in the Gulf War. So it has travelled a very long way ! Rob .............rnixartillery.
  15. Steveo. I have the ex DLI 17 pdr in my collection , it has since been fully restored. It has taken me 10 years to acquire all the missing parts to complete the restoration. I managed to find a sight assembly through a colleague which had been removed from a 17 pdr used by the Iraqi national guard in the gulf war two years ago. I would post some pics but I think this is the wrong thread for artillery !! Rob..............................rnixartillery.
  16. Thanks for the info chaps,I have a 17 pdr in my collection which I restored about 10 years ago. My one came off Otterburn range a long time back. Rob..........................rnixartillery.
  17. Adrian, Did the 17 pdr A/T end up on the IOW ? Rob.......................rnixartillery.
  18. There seems to be a real shortage of kit for these guns ,I can't find anything for it. There will be an old warehouse somewhere full of kit,(in my dreams !!!!)Here are a few more pics Rob .........................rnixartillery.
  19. Phil The yard where you took the pics has been cleared out quite a bit over the last 10 year since the old man died,There use to be a loyd carrier a couple of jimmy's a very complete matador with a coles crane and a number of other interesting bits. I was in there about 12 years back and found quite a bit of CMP parts laid about. Rob.......................rnixartillery.
  20. Cracked on with the restoration of the 6 pdr over the past couple of days.I had difficulty sliding the barrel on to the recuperator,I think the slipper must have been very slightly bent but a bit of a push with the old tractor pushed it home. I have to fabricate the main gunsheild next,so I need the find patterns, dimensions etc. I still need to find the sight assembly if anyone out there can help. Pics attached. Rob...............rnixartillery collection.
  21. I have one pair, but there should be 6 dampers in total so I need to shop around for the other four, apart from that the vehicle is complete. I do like the look of the vehicle which is what originaly attracted me to it in the first place , but the few remaining Stallions do have slight differences notably the light clusters. My vehicle is registered for the road, sorned at present and I also have about 2 ton of spares plus a spare engine which came of the unfortunate Stallions that were scrapped. I am not sure but think there is four surviving Stallions so they are quite a rare and unusual beast plus they are diesel which makes a big difference these days. Don't quite no what to do with mine which is why its up for sale,i'll leave it to chance ? Rob.........rnixartillery
  22. CORRECTION !!! The Stallion that is for sale by Sammy at A+S belongs to me. I took the remains of the vehicle in a deal with Marcus glenn three years ago. The Stallion will be returning to my workshop in the next few weeks,I will then decide what to do with the vehicle. When I bought the vehicle back then I collected armoured vehicles but have since restuctured the collection to Artillery. Rob..........................................rnixartillery.
  23. The museum of army transport at Catterick was shelved 9 years ago, apparently the MOD Had funding for the museum but there was an issue with the site which was the decommisioned air field.due to the upgrade and widening of the A1 it was to incorperate part of RAF Catterick which was later shelved by the ministry of transport. The venture was to generate about 70 jobs localy and house the former collection from Beverly as well as a full guage railway and a fully equiped workshop restoring exhibits. I attended an inerview with Prince research and was placed on file for a job position in the workshop. This has all now fizzled out but I believe there is still a big pot of money put to one side by the committee if the venture ever goes ahead. Rob........................................rnixartillery.
  24. Does any of the forum members no the location of any surviving No 24 Ammunition trailers, these trailers were the predecessor to the common No 27 Ammunition Limber used throughout WWII.Any info or images greatly apreciated. Attached are a few pics. Rob..............................rnixartillery.
  25. "From the late 1990s the plan was to clear this area and use it for general training, the first thing that went were 432s of various styles and mks and Scarcens these were probably realocated to ranges south west of Catterick garrison towards Leyburn around moor rd A6108 and Range road. Although it is possible hard targets may have been moved to a closer range such as that off Stoneman lane to the north of Feldom ranges heading towards Gayles village". I was responsible for removing the three saracens and five 432 hulks from the range in the mid nineties when it had been de-classified,all went for scrap. The only thing remaining of any real interest is the buried churchill which is now minus its turret but it is Very badly shot up and full of concrete, the few odd tank hulks on the surface have been completely stripped of any salvagable parts.
