  1. We've been planning on making a visit to the REME museum to get some detail shots and dimensions for the reconstruction of the Scammells back bidy, so looking at their trailer can be added to the list of things to do on that day. Yes, this certainly isn't the original drawbar, but i'm pretty sure theres stubs of the original where it meets the trailer. A tyre bloke delivered some 14.00 x 20s we'd bought recently. I showed him and he said 11.00 x 13s would be easier. Richard
  2. I suspect mine is the cable operated version. I'm going to go Cobbaton Combat Collection and take some detailed photos and dimensions of theirs sometime. Maurice, if you give me your email address i'll do a CAD drawing of the spare wheel bracket, because i'm going to need one anyway. Richard
  3. Maurice, Thats interesting. So they were made in Canada also? Presumably under licence? Is there any way of telling where mine was made? Is there any identification stamped in the chassis. Richard, Interesting also. Mine has some of the linkage remaining, but nothing that i can see for actuating it. Thanks
  4. Morning all, I recently took delivery of the latest addition to my toybox - a Cranes 7.5 ton light recovery trailer. I'd always fancied one to go behind the Scammell, so when this came along at a brilliant price i snapped it up. Its missing most of the bolt ons, so if anyone has any leads on the following i'd appreciate it: winch, ramps, screw jacks for the back, a 13 inch split rim, a tow bar and any of the brake linkage. Also if anyone has manuals or parts lists i'd really appreciate scans or copys. Does anyone know what the braking system is? I've seen sources saying it was that horrible cable operated system powered by the actuator on the back of the Scammell, and some sources saying its air operated. Again any clarification / pictures appreciated.
  5. Just happened upon this problem, and found this thread. I didn't know you could post photos direct to the forum. How do you do this and is any reason not to? Thanks, Richard
  6. Evening all, I'm heading to northern Poland next week for a wedding, and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for places to visit of a wartime genre? We're staying for a week, and the wedding is a 3 day vodka fuelled piss up extraordinaire, so that leaves the rest of the week for sight seeing. Already considered swimming out to the German torpedo testing station near Babie Doly. We're staying right on the northern coast near a town called Puck, just north of Gdansk. I understand theres a few bits to check out on the Hel peninsula. Any suggestions greatfully received. Richard
  7. Can you post a link please? Thanks, Richard
  8. Hi, I have an R-Tech AC/DC 200 Amp invertor unit and i'm very pleased with it. Another good thing about R-Tech is the service is brilliant!! ChuckE is one to look at on Youtube, but I think even better than him is: welding tips and tricks. Good luck, Richard
  9. Afternoon all, I have a question for anyone who has taken the heads off their Pioneer. How did you get a torque wrench on the head nuts under the decompressor shaft to do them up again? Apparently there is a special tool, but its £75 + VAT from Gardner Marine. Any pointers gratefully received. Richard
  10. Morning all, I'm looking for a felling axe to go with our Scammell Pioneer, preferably british dated wartime. Any leads greatly appreciated. Richard
  11. Evening all, I need a felling axe for my Scammell Pioneer, preferably British and dated WW2. Was wondering if there's dealers of such items or maybe someone has one for sale. Any leads? Thanks, Richard
  12. Can anyone say with confidence whether Pioneers had any form of strip across the front edge of the cab roof directly above the headboard, or does the roof skin just screw straight into the headboard? I've got all the usual books, and its difficult to see in any of the period photos if there's anything there. A number of vehicles in preservation have some sort of reinforcement strip be it flat of dome shaped, but i'm not sure if its an original fitment. Cheers all, Richard
  13. Many thanks, but I think I'll stick with the shirt and overalls. I'm hoping it will be too warm to wear anything more. I plan on getting a BD at some point in the future. Cheers, Richard
  14. When you say blouse do you mean the collarless shirt? Because I got one of those to wear under the overalls. Thanks for the offer, Richard
  15. Brilliant. Great to see it. Good luck, Richard
  16. Some brilliant replies, thanks chaps. I received my kit from SOF today and on the whole very pleased, except the overalls were ripped. So will have to ring up about a replacement tomorrow. I think due course I will get a BD but this will do for the weekend. You should all know me now when you see me (and the jeep) at the weekend, so please come hi so I can thank you in person. Thanks again, Richard
  17. Thanks for the info guys. I guess its one of those things that in reality there were probably a tremendous amount of variations, and the rule book not necessarily adhered to? Just to steer back onto the subject of patches on overalls again. Could it be termed "wrong"? Since I've bought them, i'd like to wear them if its conceivable. Thanks, Richard
  18. Hi enigma, Thanks for your reply. So even REME attached to an armoured unit would have a black beret? I think it was actually a khaki one I've ordered no commando green. Am I right on the patches? Cheers, Richard
  19. Evening all, I don't normally go in for the whole uniform thing, so I could do with some knowledgable advice on British wartime uniforms. I am attending Armour and Embarkation this weekend with my jeep and want to look the part. My jeep is marked as REME 7th armoured, so I have bought from SOF some NOS wartime overalls, a green beret, REME cap badge, REME arm of service stripes, 7th armoured patches and trade patches (crossed hammer and tongs). My question is would all those patches be worn on a pair of overalls? And in what order on the arm? Many thanks, I look forward to seeing lots of you there at the weekend. Richard
