  1. The paint lump thing really isn't a problem. I see you are mixing your paint and thinners in a mixing pot before putting in your gun. Well, go to your local auto paint supplier and pick up a pack of paint strainers, they are conical paper things with a fine plastic mesh in the bottom, sit one in the top of your gun pot and pour your thinned paint through it. I do this with all my paint just to make sure i don't get any blockages. Good luck. Richard
  2. Bryan, i've just re-read your post, and realised you said on the photo there appears to be another box under the control box. Not sure what you're referring to. Theres some loose wires sticking up but those are the ones that go to the generator just hadn't been connected at that stage. If you're still struggling PM me and i'll give you my number we can chat on the phone, that would be much easier. Good luck. Richard
  3. Sorry Bryan, i hadn't noticed your post until now. Not sure what you're referring to. The unit under the control box on the diagram is the generator. To ground all your lights etc to bodywork means all parts of the vehicle need to be electrically grounded to one another to make the circuit, hence why american vehicles like the Jeep have lots of grounding straps. This can sometimes be a source of problems when lights don't work as its difficult to locate where the circuit is broken. If you run everything back to the fusebox it makes things easier. There is a fair bit coming back to the fusebox but it works. Hope that helps. Richard
  4. Just found this thread, and found it interesting. I'm trying to determine where to put the numbers and stars on our Scammell Pioneer that we're nearing the completion of its restoration. I knew there was a book published originally as a set of guidelines, and see that Morris C8 posted a picture of said book. Can anyone give any guidance on where to put the H number and stars. Does the number go on side of bonnet or cab doors? Do i put a star on bonnet or cab roof? Star on sides of back body or on cab doors? etc etc Many thanks. Richard
  5. Question for the aussies and americans who have been using this stuff for a while - i had been led to believe that E10 also attacked the soft metals such as used in fuel pump and carb castings? Is it just rubber it affects? Is there any affect on general engine wear? Thanks. Richard
  6. Apologies for the delay. Heres my wiring diagram. Although in some cases it shows lights wired to ground, this was just for my own convenience and in fact everything is wired back to the negative busbar in the fusebox. Richard Scammell Wiring Diagram.pdf
  7. We have a large quantity of MVT Windscreen and Classic Military Vehicle magazines we need to get rid of. Some of the Windscreens go back to when they were A5. Seems a shame to throw them out so wondered if anyone here would be interested? Located South Somerset. Richard
  8. Fine for wartime vehicles then. On the subject of duty, whose going to know? I'm guessing that it couldn't be tested for being avgas at the road side? I'd be interested in knowing results people have got from testing E10 in their vehicles which has had the ethanol removed using the adding water method. Cheers. Richard
  9. Just wanted to bring this one back to the fore as i heard something on the radio about it a few days ago. I seem remember reading somewhere, and someone mentioned it here, about using some sort of aviation fuel. Can anyone elaborate? Presumably thats not jet fuel, but rather what modern piston aircraft use? My concern about oil companies having "Super" versions which aren't E10 is that they will eventually be phased out just like four star was. So we need a long term solution. Thanks. Richard
  10. Welcome to the matador club 👍
  11. Hi Bryan, Give me a few days to check its up to date with any tweaks i made as i was installing the wiring and i'll post it here. All the best. Richard
  12. Yes that was Simon Duff's tank transporter. I didn't know you were coming, should have made yourself known. Trouble with the user names that we all adopt on here, you don't then know what someone's real name is. Who is your brother then? Richard
  13. Cracking work chaps. Where did you get the sleeving on your air pipes? thanks
  14. Many thanks for your kind comments. No i didn't take it to Haselbury. All being well it should be there next year.
  15. Got the front wings painted and installed at the weekend
  16. Thanks chaps. Adrian, Comet is 12v?? thats surprising, does that mean Cromwell is 12v too? Richard, Whats Vocab? Thanks, Richard
  17. Does anyone know what vehicle(s) this CAV control board fits? Thanks. Richard
  18. This week my brother and i blasted and primed all the bits for the crane winch, so thats the next thing to start going back together. That said after we had packed all the blasting kit away, Tim found the sheet metal cover that goes round the worm wheel, i'd completly forgotten about it, but it needs a few minor weld repairs anyway. I also recently blasted and primed the seat frames, wings and their brackets, so next job is to put them back together, a bit of filler and finish paint. After much deliberating i've decided that i can't face blasting the frame work for the rear body myself. Its just massive and i'd only need it to start raining half way through and i'd really loose my rag! lol. So that is going off soon to a professional local blasting outfit. I guess thats the last major bit to be started on.
  19. Picked up the new number plates this week too
  20. Bought a new decal for the fire extinguisher and fitted it. I reckon its looks the nuts!
  21. I'm almost done with the re-wire. The diagram in the manual is wrong, so i re-drew it and got a bit of help from PhilB on wire sizes and recommended a couple useful additions which i've discreetly added. Have also included indicators, can't be too safe these day with something so slow. I wanted to run the wiring in the same bitumen coated sleeving that the Jeep wiring came in because i thought it looked period correct and far better than the modern plastic alternatives. There are suppliers of it in this country but only upto a certain size and i needed some bigger stuff. Only place i could find it was in the USA and they wouldn't send to the UK, so i got it sent to my auntys in WV and she sent it on, took a while but it got here eventually. I had the original headlight and sidelight reflectors re-silvered. One of the sidelights was missing its terminations, so i made up the clamp that goes round the body of the bulb holder in brass and also a female receptacle a hollow bullet connector on the back of the reflector and soldered it on. I came up with a rather elaborate set of clips to suspend the battery clamps from the cab floor. I also had to make some of the brass P clips myself where weren't standard ones that fitted, and on the bulkhead the original holes were so close to the cab frame i had to come up with a cut down P clip to make it work. Really pleased with how its all turned out.
  22. Afternoon folks, thought it was time for another update. I've blasted, cleaned out, re-assembled, painted and installed the fuel tank and rear hitch. Had to make a new pin the catch on the hitch because the old one had to be cut out. Fortunately i was able to find a NOS fuel gauge, but the action needed reversing. Also painted to colour coded trailer air line couplings. Had to make a new pipe from fuel tank to lift pump and solder the original end fitting on.
  23. Tom it sounds like you either are or have been serving C2 crew. What is your opinion of C2 compared to other MBTs from around the world? I was always under the impression it was up there with the best of them. Thanks. Richard
  24. Presumably that means its the same as the ammunition used by the Abrams? I'm guessing the americans don't buy it in?
