  1. the film was made on a 1 million pound budget which in this day & age is a pittance. the script side of it is made up of numerous true events, so they all happened but just not in the same order as the film portrays. i was sad enough to watch the 'extra' bits from the main menu. i did enjoy the film though as it followed the more personal side with mates & strangers looking out for each other as oppossed to the 'main battle' theme. not as bad as some movies & at least they did use re enacters who were wearing the right kit. 2. just an update on this one. we had the lowest turnout of vehicles since the road run was started with only about a dozen but in all fairness there wasn't many tourists round the docks either. the reason for this was the weather. we got rained on, blown away, hail stoned on, blown a bit more, snowed on, sun shined on,blown away a lot more & sleeted on just to top off the most diverse weather of the year. a huge thank you to the die hards for turning up at all it was a very brave move. a few of us went out for a roast which was a welcome relief from the cold. lets see what next year holds in store for us. 3. i just found you as well, phew what a relief. i didn't get an e mail either but have been checking the old link daily & also doing a search on hmvf ( just bought up hmv till today). great to be back & great to be back to a brill site, well done chaps, top notch, :yay: i'll get back to exploring now. Berni
  4. thanks guys, work, you gotta love it & hate it at the same time. loads of my drivers have asked me to go back on the front desk which is real sweet. i managed to get away today after 5 hours overtime. mind you the money will come in handy at the end of next month, just in time for the season to start. gloucester docks this weekend so i will relax & gossip enough to re charge the batteries eady for the week ahead. as for my bosses reading this i think they have got the gist of my thoughts believe me . at least i am not on my own, over half the work force have had a hissy fit in the past couple of weeks 1 girl has got to the point where she is having next week off & drivers have got as far as jumping in their cars to go home before someone has coaxed them back in. oh well roll on may :yay: Berni
  5. my working life is so so awful at the moment i haven't got the time or inclination to do anything else. so i really must apologise for my lack of input lately. Our company (UPS) took over Lynx ages ago & as we were the best centre in the country for 3 years they decided to integrate us as a flagship cause the other 3or4 they done so far are worse than cr~p. so 3 weeks ago we moved from our building to theirs 7 miles away. it isn't big enough to run all the routes out of so they have kept our building open for the lynx owner drivers & have moved all the employed drivers to the lynx site. what they didn't explain was that not only would i be doing all my own work for my (new) centre but i would still have to do all the work for the old centre as well. to make life even more complete some of the lynx owner drivers are not as work concientious as our guys. the amount of damaged packages has more than doubled & 1 customer said the guy just 'dropped' the parcel at his feet damaging a hot foil machine worth around 1200.00. the cod import side of things is so bad it has now gone beyond worrying about. they have missed collecting more money in 2 weeks than we did for the whole of last year and the cherry on the cake is all the high value stuff we deal with which has to be logged & the drivers have to sign to say they have recieved them. so i get them in a pile, i scan & sign to say i have got them then the drivers some in & they have to ocme see me to collect their stuff & sign the sheet again. this was fine when i just had 100 - 150 but now it is 300 + which isn't easy on your own. i must confess to having a hissy fit & locking myself in the loo & not coming out till the early shift had finished at 7am. I have been doing almost double my normal working hours and at 1 point was so tired i thought i was halucinating. the one saving grace is that it can't go on like this forever. day by day we are just chipping away at the old block as best we can. :argh: :banghead: :argh: :banghead: :cofee: :computerterror2:  :banghead: hopefully back to normal before too much longer a very dejected Berni
  6. the older the beetle chassis the better & left hand drive, although it is real easy to do a right to left conversion. russ done his in an afternoon & he worked on the gravel drive as well. i'll have to see if i can delve into the bowels of my pc & see if i can find any old photos that may show some detail as for his memory he'd probably say 'what memory' bless him Berni
  7. Just asked russ and he can't remember what the company is called, his memory isn't the best on the planet ( on par with a goldfish comes to mind). i'm sure it is the same one as Bodge mentions. Russ did a Kommand car (KDF) a couple of years ago which was real good for a first attempt and he is collecting the parts to build another one, he has got a chassis & engine & box with a few panels at the moment & is just waiting for a decent body to come into work. sorry Berni
  8. thanks andy, unfortunatley back badge day & mothers day clash every year so us mothers over this way are used to it. :knockknock: we do miss out on this honerable tradition but i'd much rather spend the day catching up on gossip with fellow hobbyists. Berni
  9. yes i think there is but you'll have to wait till russ gets home around 7ish before i can ask him. Berni
  10. sunday 18th see us having our annual road run to the soldiers of gloucester musuem in conjunction with back bagde day. i know it is mothers day as well but these things can't be helped. we will be meeting in the layby on the A38 at the gossington truck stop (between bristol & glos) ready to leave at 10am. a steady drive to Glouceser docks where the rest of the day is yours to chat, eat, have a look round the Glosters museum (free to MV owners), visit the docks museum, see what goodies are in the antiques centre, help the work group try & start the saracen or just sit on the dockside with a cup of tea & a biscuit & chill out it would be good to see some almost locals who have never been round the museum & want an interesting day out, even if you can't bring an MV we don't mind visiters with more up to date modes of transport paying us a visit. hope to see you there Berni
  11.  :cofee: happy birthday to you happy birthday to you happy birthday to stolly happy birthday to you bernie

  14. there is nothing wrong with an Army background, as already said loads on here so you're not alone. I wasn't a serving member but spent the first part of my life as an Army child & loved it. Army camps are the best playgrounds ever , which is probably where my love for this hobby comes from . welcome on board berni
  15. its amazing how small the internet world is, make yourself comfortable & have fun berni

  20. having a tidy one & a messy one is hard but at least when the messy one tidies her room(annually) i get all my cutlery & crockery back.mind you many a plate or dish has been stood on & smashed as you can't see the floor so don't know where they are. as i said they do get better with age but are still far from perfect i don't think anyone could afford the tidy one, they are extremely rare varieties and there can't be many of them around. shes got to be worth at least a schwimmwagan. :-D Berni
  21. my jimmy is called 'windy' after my husband russ. no points for guessing which part of his anatomy its named after. for everyone who has met russ they will understand completely Berni
  22. Azerville is great, we found it by accident & you go down into the first bit of bunker & watch a 20 min film then a guide takes you through the system & explains things as you go & also gives you the opportunity to ask questions. it is surprising when you come out as you are in a field on the other side of the road. the 360 cinema is wierd but good ranville was a quaint village with a British cemetery & is just down the road from Merville.( last time we went during the 60th anniversary we had a little chat with Reinhart Steiner who was the commander of the Batterie when it was taken by the British) it is also good driving round the lanes & stopping at small museums you may never have normally seen Berni
  23. hello stryker, i don't believe in making people tidy their bedroom so i wont say that to you & your dad is mean for asking. my oldest daughter ( 18 now) is better than she used to be but at 1 time her room was 3 foot high with 'stuff' & she just used to sleep on top. her door broke off the hinges when we tried to oen it once but that was how she chose to 'live for a while'. her sister mean while is 16 & since the age of about 5 has had her own hoover, polish etc in her room & keeps it spotless. any way welcome on board & have fun berni
  24. we started in stonehouse in glos'shire & drove to Beltring-did the red ball run & drove home again. we started with a full tank & put 1 jerry can in when we got to Beltring but still had fuel left when we got home, which was enough to get us to another show.we didn't really need to add the jerry can but was the first time we did the journey so thought we would be cautious. i though we did fantastic Berni
  25. and me, can i have my name on mine as well please. as for being a model :-o can any of you remember bella emburg :-D Berni
