It's lucky that I have a good sympathetic sense of humour  After being in this hobby for a few years i have got used to seeing hunks of rust transfomed & re born into perfect green macines. I did say at the start that anything could happen but this is probably way beyond anyones imagination  I also do have to admit that russ has an appalling memory & if you asked him for a pint of cider he'd probably come back with a bag of apples. :? It will be sunday now before i can get the bike uncovered properly to take some more photos so the Russian thread will have to wait a few more days. The garage isn't such a lonely place once the tools & spare parts come out to play so watch this forum for an interesting journey into the (so far) unknown. cheers Berni

well here is a picture of our new GMC. | | | \|/ Well as you can see it is not quite a GMC but apparently it 'spoke' to him ( russ i mean). I shall spend some time tomorrow & start off the Russian section with a restoration project that you can all follow. The Gmc will have to be put on hold untill the Urral is finished but it should still be before the start of the next season. This thread is not finished yet it is just hibernating for the winter

theres not a lot around at the moment, we have got loads of feelers out but as we have already got 2 MVs we are not desparate enough to buy the first one we see for sale. As long as one comes along for the start of the season then thats fine. hopefully a few will come up for sale over the winter as most people are still using them for shows at the moment. In this hobby i think the saying patience is a virtue is quite right & if you hang on long enough you woont be dissapointed. We have looked at a couple of hard cabs but would prefer a soft cab unless the hard cab had a gun ring ( which they haven't so far) Never mind Russ has just aquired a fse 50 which is a blast from his past & is on the road to restoration. This should keep him busy for a couple of weeks so he is slightly pre occupied with a new project , i'm sure you all know how these things start, but the GMC hunt is still very much alive. I'll keep you updated as we go on. cheers berni
  7. It depends on the type of show & the weather  If it is a steam fair then we just tend to wear anything in olive. ie combats /lightweights & our club polo shirts. If we are at an organised event ie blenheim we wear full authentic uniform. Lastly at Military shows ie Kemble, detling,Beltring then it does depend. Many others wear uniform at these events so I don't think it matters if we are Uniformed up or not. It is good to wear it for a few hours during the day when the public are there as they like to take photos but come the late afternoon we normally get changed into sloppies. I very rarely wear uniform in the beer tent as it costs too much money for drunken people with fags in their hands to push past & put fag holes in it. I do like wearing uniform or 40s clothes to events as the public love it but i do also like to take it off & bung on my cut offs & trainers when I want to veg out. I do find it much easier to wear our club shirts to events as they look smart & you can wear them with any trousers. We have them done separate to the MVT ones and we wrote to the Gloucesters( army) & asked their permission to use the sphinx back badge as part of our logo. We have black polo shirts with the sphinx on the back inbetween the shoulder blades at the nape of the neck & we have Gloucestershire Military vehicle Trust on the top left hand side on the front. We also have olive drab t shirts with the same logo on. Do other areas have their own shirts? They do look smart & you can get away with wearing them anywhere. cheers Berni

    Rare GMC?

one of our chaps has got 1 of these air portable tippers, he got it a few weeks ago. he is doing a restoration on it over the winter so will find out some more details when i get them. I'm going to have to be nosey now & go & ask a few questions cheers Berni
  9. on sunday 8th January we are having our annual new year road run. This year we are leaving greasy joes in Cirencester at 9am & driving to Glos docks where we shall pick up some more vehicles. we will leave glos docks at 10am & make our way through the Forest of Dean arriving at the Crime Through Time Museum at Littledean Jail. The owner is opening his Home ( he lives in the Jail) for us at a discounted rate from 5.50 - 2.00 per person. You can then spend as long as you like browsing the cells & their macabre displays. He has just got the Skull from the last ever person to be hung in a Gibbett in England in the late 1800s. Teas & butties / cake will be available for lunch for a donation. This will be an interesting visit & all are welcome. please ring 01452 303254 for more details & to hand your names over. cheers berni

see,,, it wasn't the nylons & chocolate the british women liked about the yanks during the war, it was their ability to whistle.... Ta berni
  11. nice to meet you, No jeep is just a Jeep & i think all vehicles own their owners so you're not on your own. ta berni
  12. hello danzo, hopefully i wont need to take you up on the offer but it's nice to know that it's there. Legal jargon can be so confusing sometimes. ta berni

firstly to karoshi, the Reo may have a sexier sound but the Jimmy has a much stronger personality & character. Sexiness wears off after a while & gets a bit boring if theres nothing else to back it up but the Jimmy would be like a life long friend who would have more to offer in the long run. The jimmy wins hands down but that whistle will still be sexy. To shane, it would depend on the price really & the extent of the restoration we are not shy of a restoration job & have done a few in the past few years. We would have to see it first & then knowing russ he will take a fair few photo's study them for a few nights, compare the photo's to pictures in books & then say " well it's not as bad as it looks" I'm sure most MV wives have heard that saying many times. for some reason every vehicle we have bought so far have kind of 'spoke' to us. We can have 5 vehicles all the same in a row & only 1 will jump out & say " pick me" We don't mind either way as long as it is the right one & we are not going into this with pre concieved ideas of what we want. We want everything & nothing at the same time. We have already changed our mind about what to look for. To start with we only wanted a soft cab but on looking over a few Jimmys this weekend we quite like the look of the hard cab with the gun ring. Our minds are open so if you know of any for sale please pass on some details cheers Berni
  14. There are still loads of British vehicles around but a lot are kept in storage & cherished. We have a Bedford MW & bought her 3 years ago as a restoration project. She had never been registered since leaving the Army so we are the 1st registered keepers. She was bought by a Haulage company along with 5 others & the Owner only registered 2 of them. What he then did was as 1 vehicle died he just put the plates on another one. The 6 of them lasted him through his business & he sold ours on to a chap who used to drive them in the war. He started a full restoration from the ground up & even had every spring/nut/bolt etc sand blasted & re painted individually before putting it back together. Unfortunatly he died before he could finish the truck & it sat in his sons barn for a couple of years. We only got it from a chance conversation ( as is usual) & finished off the restoration to show winner standard ( Beltring last year, best restored WW11 british vehicle). I presume there are many more British vehicles like this dotted throughout the country & many of the old boys don't like to sell them on. It is only when the younger generation are left them & want them out of the way that they come on the market This is only 1 theory although there are probably many more. It will be interesting to read other stories. cheers Berni
  15. Up till now we have only had British Vehicles but have decided to swap sides & buy a Jimmy 353. This is going to be an interesting journey & i'll let you all know how the hunt goes. there is something to be said about getting older & prefering a vehicle that you can pull up to a rally in & get straight into a bed in the back as opposed to putting a tent up & assembling camp beds etc. All we have to do now is keep an eye on Milweb & wait for the next windscreen unless anyone has any usefull leads they wouldn't mind sharing. It came down to a toss up between a Jimmy & a REO but we prefer to stay with WW11 so a Jimmy it had to be, although the REO has a much sexier sound. Any help would be usefull guys so Cheers for now Berni
  16. I think we are aiming for the 353 at the moment but who knows. It is going to be one of those times when you'll know it as soon as you see it even if it's not what you wanted to start with. we are not in a huge rush as long as we have 1 in time for next season Any leads will be appreciated Cheers berni
  17. cheers guys. At the moment we have a Bedford MW but as of tonight in one of them strange MV conversations we tend to have in the car we have decided to sell the MW & buy a GMC. Going American will be a unique experience for us as we have been staunch Brits up till now. Here's to the unknown Berni
  18. we will have to have a female section before to long, you'll have to get your wife to register as well. I know there are many more of us. It is good to have other ladies in the hobby as many see it as a male thing. Berni
  19. hello guys, where do i find the attachment icon, i'm either looking to hard or not looking at all. I'd like to post some photo's but not sure how. any help would be great cheers guys berni

  21. Even though i have contacted my local labour MP it has also been suggested to me to contact the local Lib Dem & Tory mp's as well. This is because they normally try & oppose anything Labour does. I shall certainly be giving this a go. It seems to be certain that the bill will go ahead in october but the main objective now is to get clauses put into the Bill. I have included this in our meetings for the past 2 months & hopefully as a whole we should make enough noise to be heard. cheers berni
  22. hello all, as you can see my names berni & I am the secretary for our Local Gloucestershire area MVT group. I have been in the hobby with my hubby Russ for a fair few years now & do most of the localised MV shows & steam rallies in the county . Beltring is the furthest we go in the UK. I have fun being a judge for various categories of All things green & this year for the first time I bit the bullet & took the mic for the arena commentating at 2 shows.( felt very brave) I have been waiting for a site like this & have wrote the address down to give out at our meeting tomorrow. Hopefully this is going to expand vastly in the near future & am glad to be here in the early stages. I haven't worked out how to post a picture yet but when i do i'll pop a couple on of our MW. cheers berni
