  4. i know many wiltshire members & many already subscribe to our Gloucestsreshire newsletter. we have also extended the hand of friendship & are holding 2 meetings a year in Crudwell which is on the glos/wilts border. the 2 meetings this year have been attended by great numbers & the next one is planned for the second tuesday in march. not everyone is able to attend meetings so we do a monthly newsletter which anyone can subscribe to for 5.00 a year which does help to keep them updated with whats occuring. we have just resurected it after a years break & it is doing really well. well done to all area committee members,it is a hard job & to do it without pay is a testament to the guys dedicated to this hobby,  :thankyou: i have just noticed this smiley  Berni

  7. Quote The MVT spends money on the national show at Kemble when it is too far to travel for many members. But the MVT have all the gate & stall money now then i do know the answer to this one, Kemble is organised as a military show by Severnside & the reason it is listed as a National show is so they can have a 2500 LOAN which has to be paid back. it started life as their local area rally held in the grounds of Berkley castle & was fairly small with car parking, stalls & exhibiters all in 1 field. the show has grown since then but has been purposely kept small enough to handle. All monies gained goes into a show account and believe me they do not make a profit. for every pound in there is a pound goes out. the better quality toilets, the very hot showers, entertainment on 2 nights, the spot lights, the fencing, the forklifts, bins, fire extinguishers, private security,plaques/badges/cups,marque hire, the black bin liners every one is issued with for rubbish etc. it all costs money and the show always has been non profit making. Severnside do not put on the show to make money & no money goes into the main purse of the MVT apart from the original loan, there is never enough left over for that. we all give our time voluntarily & even take time off work from the wednesday in order to get the site ready each & every one of the fence panels has to be placed by hand. even after the show it takes another day to take it all down & to do a whole field sweep for rubbish, picking upbeer bottle tops, ring pulls & cable ties is a pain in the backside but has to be done. The show isn't perfect but nothing ever is & as the saying goes you can't please all the people all the time but the effort that goes into Kemble by the Severnside & glos members goes beyond the call of normal duty. so NO the mvt do not get the gate & stall money it all gets ploughed into the show for those who attend to enjoy. sitting back now & waiting for moans about kemble  Berni
  8. apart from some christmas cards i didn't get to look at a single stall but spent from 9am - 4pm chatting to friends & drinking tea :-o i can honestly say i had a great time :yay!: Berni
  9. i have just voted & even though our area have strived to have a healthy mix of vehicles i have decided to go with the top option & that is yes to post war. I have to say that i have never felt ostracised from any MVT event but it has been a different matter when it comes to some of the old school vehicle owners. some were not even members of the MVT so the blame can't always be laid at their door My reasons for this are that as a previous series 3 owner and being a new person into the MV hobby ( many years ago) i felt we were ignored for maybe a couple of years by many WW2 owners and had comments like'they best not park near me' & 'what do they think they are doing here' those people who know me will know that i am quite stubborn and can be a pain in the backside so i stuck out my chin & decided i would turn up at as many shows as possible and show them that they couldn't get rid of me that easily. it didn't take long for a few of us PW ers to start chatting and the nextstep was for us all to park up next to each other. i never let a few biggots spoil my love for my hobby and i'd like to think i have made many friends over the years and i have a great respect for each & everyone of them, i will be polite but i will not be overly friendly with the vehicle snobs who i felt let the hobby down in my early years. My MVT life started out with the severnside area and they never once made me feel unwelcome, the biggest hurdle was the travelling times to meetings so with their help a new Gloucestershire area was set up. we still have strong links with severnside and i don't see a divide between ww2 & PW . As i said i voted on my first impression into the hobby and the fact that even though PWers in our neck of the woods are made most welcome i know that prejudice does exist. even though we now own a 1940 bedford MW & a 1944 jimmy i would love to get another 109. i still miss mine (i will have to wait for the kids to move out so i can have the room on the drive) i know many of you have blamed the MVT for the divide but the divide would still exist without the MVT. almost finished, it probably hasn't helped that in the last few years we have had the 60th anniversary of D day, followed by the anniversary of V E day so the war years have been prevelant in the public eye. with the anniversary of the Falklands coming up in 2008 there will be the need for many vehicles of that era for parades, displays, rememberance services etc & so there should be. i wish there was some magic fairy dust that could be added to the beer to sort all this out but it is beyond my powers i'm afraid. i may read this tomorrow & find it doesn't make sense but at the moment it does :-D , cheers Berni
  10. oh b*gger, i missed out on the Liberty ship last time i was in New York but was planning on going to visit when i go back in October next year, OH FUEY. that is so pants. any way New York (manhatten island is only 2 miles by 13 miles but there is so much to see & do. firstly it will be freezing, secondly take advantage of the street corner coffee sellers ( good value). Grand central station is awesome if a little difficult to find, it is under a sky scraper. the open top buses are the easiest way to have a look round & they have a guide on each one who explains what things are & where, there is a night time xmas lights one ( blinking baltic so wrap up warm)a down town one - the financial district, ground zero, little italy, china town etc.. then the Brooklyn one which is round brooklyn, then the uptown one which is round central park, harlem etc. this one takes you past a huge museum, which looked real impressive times square is something or nothing, but there is a restaurant called Bubba Gump Shrimp close to there. they play forest gump all day long and as the name says they serve shrimp. visit the empire state building in the evening as hardly any queues, during the day you can wait for up to 3-4 hours but in evening its about 10 mins. just over from maceys is a sweet little square with an ice rink. there is so so much it is worth grabbing a hand full of brochures & sitting down with a tea/coffee to plan what you want to do. helicopter rides are fab & go from 7-30 mins long. everyone i have spoken to about new york have got their favorite places, you just have to find yours i've never been to the others so can't comment, but i love New York i am sure i will think of loads more Berni
  11. i don't know..... i think you can only get in with a private invite from someone stationed there. i think thats how it works. another trip may be planned in 2008 but you could try being a bunny boiler & donning a mini skirt & high heels & chatting up a squaddie :-D in the meantime though i'll try & find out for you cheers Berni
  12. i had never heard of shrivenham untill coming back from Beltring with LLoyd in his jeep ( russ was being driven home in the Jimmy as he couldn't drive with his bad foot). and lloyd asked if we could organise our new years road run to the MOD site there. when i got home i tried finding it on the internet but didn't know it existed let alone how to spell it so i put the idea to the back of my mind untill it came up again in conversation. well, as it happens a couple of weeks ago i had a phone call from John C asking if i could make up numbers for a trip to Shrivenham he had wangled (my ears pricked up at this) and ask a few mates up to about 20 altogether. first phone call was to lloyd who got 2 jeeps with 8 bodies with no effort at all & i got another 14 without too much effort. we arrived at Shrivenham MOD site in Wiltshire, not far from swindon, about 10.30 am and after signing in we went through the gates. the first shed we stopped at was full of armour (woo hoo big toys to play with) and the only provisio was that we didn't take photos inside the warrier or chally 1 & 2. also ,& this is the worst bit, because they are all runners we weren't allowed to play with levers or press buttons ( my living nightmare) i sat inside 1 of the tanks & was confronted with so many knobs & switches etc it was driving me crazy not being able to touch anything. i am 1 of these people who will pull, prod, twist, flick, open, close & move anything not fixed in place. we had an hour to climb on & in everything in 2 halls. next it was on to the large gun armoury, again we weren't allowed to play with moving parts but our guides were quite happy to open, close breeches & show us how these big guns worked ( they didn't loose any fingers in the process) after tea / coffee & biscuits we moved on to the small arms armoury. now then we could play with everything in here as long as we could pick it up. there was UK,US,german, USSR etc. it was wall to wall metal there was also a couple of hundred pistols in display cases. this was a pretty amazing place & being so up front to so much was great. we also got to have a drink in the officers mess, which was so cheap it was fab, after a meal and a chat in the nearby pub we eventualy got home about 6.30 pm. the day was fantastic and i also met Great war Truck, hi tim too( you are so much younger than i pictured). here are a couple of pictures from the day, http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/berniep/shrivenham06023.jpg[/img] http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/berniep/shrivenham06017.jpg[/img] http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/berniep/shrivenham06001.jpg[/img] http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/berniep/shrivenham06005.jpg[/img] http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/berniep/shrivenham06024.jpg[/img] http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/berniep/shrivenham06010.jpg[/img] this was my favorite, called a tavern11, it is a us made UK vehicle http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/berniep/shrivenham06009.jpg[/img] http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/berniep/shrivenham06044.jpg[/img] http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a353/berniep/shrivenham06042.jpg[/img] i took about 40 pictures so the above is just a few samples. ta Berni
  13. there is one on ebay at the moment, russ showed me last night . shouldn't be to hard to find again Berni
  14. malvern is on sunday so there may be a chance of finding some there. Berni
  15. there are a couple of ways of doing this, with our MW i had all the paperwork sent from swansea & to save time posting it all i took a trip up to DVLA in worcester. i waited my turn & was told because i didn't have the release form & i wanted an age related plate then they would have to inspect the truck. in all fairness they offered me 10am the next day but as this was 2.30 in the afternoon i didn't have time to organise transport so we settled for the day after that. russ borrowed a recovery truck & duly took it up there. the young girl had a quick look over it, checked the chassis number & engine number & went back inside to sort the paperwork out. 5 mins later we had a tax disc & they sent the log book in the post. it took less that 15 mins from start to finish. alternativley contact the verification officer in the MVT / imps & they will arrange for a designated person from your local area to come to your house & fill in a basic form with chassis & engine number, year of manufacture & basic questions on the state of restoration. this will then be sent back to the MVT verification officer who in turn forwards on to DVLA. ( most charge £10.00 for time & fuel costs paid to person who comes to your house) the first option is fairly quick & the second one can take 3-4 weeks so it depends how urgent it is. i have done quite a few verifications & some can take me an hour to driver there, do the biz & then an hour to drive home, which is why the charge is there. a cup of tea is always welcome too. which ever way you decide to go it is usually fairly painless except for an odd minority. best of luck Berni
  16. where are all these ww11 only shows? i am not being deliberatly dumb but am generally interested. I am also a secretary of our local MVT and our chairman owns a ferrett and a S111 109. maybe it is the location we live but the only MVT shows i know of are Kemble military - all vehicles welcome and that is it really. Dean forest railway used to be multi period when it first started untill The organiser, Ken Davies, decided he only wanted ww11 & now he only has 5-6 vehicles turn up & some of them were post war (september) this is what we have done this year jan 8th glos mvt road run-2 jeeps were the only ww11 all the rest were PW mar 19th glos docks rd run for back badge day - multi age apr 17th coleford carnival of transport - multi age may 12-13.castle coombe rally - multi age may 20-21 little vintage rally - multo age may 27-29 horndean - multi age jun 16-18 north nibley rally - multi age jun 23-25 kemble military - multi age jul 8-9 cirencester park show - multi age jul 15-23 beltring - multi age show jul 29-30 welland rally - multi age aug 4-6 kemble steam - multi age aug 11-12 bristol docks WW11 only aug 26-28 detling - multi age ( all mvs put in separate field regardless of age) sep 1-3 great dorset - multi age sep 8-9 swindon & cricklade railway - multi age sep 17 tredegar house - multi period sep 23-24 crudwell MVt end of season - multi age in the above list there is only 1 ww11 only event & that is billed as a 1940's event which on the dockside in Bristol. that is 1/18 we also popped in to Bovvy to the end of season meet & there were vehicles of multi age & also as said dean forest. we may be lucky in this part of the world for shows & i fully sympathise with PW owners who feel they are excluded but i have never let that get me down, we were PW owners longer than WW11 owners . I felt it was a help rather than a hinderance, for a start my 109 could go faster than 35 mph, it also had niclely fitting doors & windscreen with a heater of sorts which made shows a bit further away more accessbile. this hobby is what you make it & i decided to get off my behind & become an active member of our MVT area. Many of our friends have PW vehicles & we always save each other spaces at shows. PW is the future, well it shouldn't be classed as PW, it should be post 45. ww1 was the war to end all wars so anything before 1945 is still post war. so, P45 is the future of the hobby and should be nurtured as such. i want to say so much more but am getting grief as i promised to sort out the attic today & haven't got the ladder ready yet. i look forward to the rest of this debate Berni
  17. hello matt, a chap called Andy lane has just moved to the IOW, i am not sure of his phone number but he has a few S111 109s for sale & loads of bits. I'm sure if you ask around someone may know where he is, an extra clue that may help is he has a red setter called BOB. a long shot but worth a try welcome Berni
  18. so many new chaps today, hi there phil, not to big a hammer i hope :-D welcome Berni
  19. welcome welcome, Brit or US as long as you love the truck it doesn't matter, being a half owner (with my other half) of 1 of each i can tell you they have different qualities. I love my GMC to bits but we can't bear to part with the MW. good luck in your quest Berni
  20. Berni's other half here ( Russ ) If you can get both at that price then rip the guys arm off . The little MW is the most liked and wanted by any mv nutter that has a love for British vehicle's . How complete are they ? , what's missing ? , what need's replacing ? , Early model or late model ? and i want them
  21. i love wurzel, i think wollies are doing the dvds of the series. ace berni
  22. welcome to the site rick ( shorter to type), its good to see another british vehicle owner best of luck with the project Berni
  23. hi dave, no MV is most rotten, we say unloved over numerous years :-D welocme aboard and i hope you like the site Berni
  24. an A1 bedofrd will go for about 5-6k & a doer upper for about 2-3k anything less is a bargain, these are going up in price as they are not as readily available as some vehicles, they are british & they fit on a normal driveway. British vehicles are becoming more popular. The wings are pretty rare to get hold of & the aero screen mounts & frames are almost non existant hope you get what you want at the right price Berni ps i think they look like cute puppy dogs, how can you say they look ugly :-D
