  7. Hello mate, You say you have seen this wrecker before and that it's in good condition, any more info. It's been in the UK since 2003 according to Rod, and yet he has only just registered it. Do you know if he used the truck for it's lifting ability or has it just sat for all these years?
  8. I've spoke to Rod on several occasions in the past at War and Peace. I thought Marltrax went bust, or something funny was going on as they just seemed to just disappear. I know that the original wrecker had a petrol engine, as I have a set of CD Roms that I bought from the States. I presume these went into a refit and were fitted with the LDS 465 multifuel (for 5 ton trucks, and the LDT for the 2.5 ton trucks). Did the M54 wrecker have the enclosed cab for the crane? Looking at this truck would you say it's original (apart from the engine obviously)? The crane looks like it can do a 360 deg turn.
  9. My old 24v FFR Lightweight had the rear tool box, but I don't remember it having one under the bonnet.
  10. Maybe this one would be tempting for you... http://www.mod-sales.com/auction/vehicle/home/27769/ALVIS_SARACEN_ARMOURED_COMMAND_VEHICLE.htm
  11. Has anyone owned one of these wreckers? Does anyone know the guy selling this one, is it the same Rod Litchfield of Marltrax fame? http://www.milweb.net/webverts/49054/ I love the look of this truck. Also are those M900 series trucks in the background? The guy says it was imported in 2003 and the last time it was advertised it wasn't registered but I see he has now got it registered as a "Historic Vehicle". Would this have the LDS 465 engine fitted? I would love to here from anyone who has info on this truck. Cheers
  12. I've been told this is a good steam rally which is two weeks before Trucks and Troops. Print off the entry form and lets see you there. http://www.billtargettrally.co.uk/
  13. Here is a link to the Abingdon Air Fayre. Military vehicles as well as classics welcome. Any members willing to put in an appearance at this show? It's only a one day show unfortunately but gets lots of visitors. Looks like the C17 and a Blackhawk will also be there. http://www.abingdonfayre.com/ A review of the 2009 show. http://www.airshows.org.uk/2009/airshows/abingdon/review.html
  14. I know it sounds far fetched, but when I was in the Army my units had a policy that if you were charged for causing an accident that resulted in damage to vehicle or load the CO had the discretion of deducting 10% of the damage value out of your pay. Whether this has changed I can't say. I never knew of anyone having this done to them, and I was lucky not to have had an accident in the 8 years I was in. However the option was definitely there for this to happen. I think it was meant as an incentive to drive sensibly.

Mine arrived today, the 1st one from my Christmas pressie subscription. Not opened though although the last one I got does look a lot better paperwise.
  16. The V55/5 form is for the registration of your vehicle. The info you put on here will appear on your V5 (but not all of the info will be on it) You will need to fill this out with as much info as possible. The guide to filling it out will state what to leave blank (which is most of it) If you haven't got a chassis number then I would think you will need to put down the hull number in it's place. Question 46 will ask you if it's Type Approval exempt. You answer Yes to this as it's an Armoured vehicle and also because of it's age. If it's over 3,500Kgs you will need to answer question 49, which asks if it is exempt from the Goods Vehicles (plating and testing) Regulations 1988. You will need to tick YES for this to be recorded as an MOT exempt vehicle. The V112/G is a decleration of MOT exempt status, you fill this out and hand it over at the time of registration to declare that it's MOT exempt. The DVLA will keep this form. The letter you have confirming the date in service will be the evidence DVLA use to issue you with an age related number plate. If your lucky, everything will go smoothly and they will issue you with a registration number there and then and a Number Plate authorization form for you to get your reg plates made up. You hand over the money they want and that's it. You will walk out with a Number Plate Authorization form and a Tax Disc (which in your case will be free:-D) Then in 12 months time when it's due another tax disc, take your renewal form along with an insurance certificate, V5 (just in case) and a completed form V112/G down to the Post Office where they will issue you with another 12 months free tax. Once you walk out of DVLA that's it. It does all depend on who you get at the local DVLA as to how smooth the whole process is.
  17. I think I am correct with the V112G Stone, he will need this for MOT exemption as the Ferret is not a motor car.
  18. Two Land Rovers in a garden at Cherhill on the A4. A desert coloured 110 and a Green/Black 110 (I think)
  19. Get it insured (I would have used the chassis number) then fill out the V55/5 with as much info as possible. If MOT exempt get a V112/G and fill that out and hand in when getting it registered. Take some pictures of the vehicle as some DVLA offices will send out a Vehicle Inspector, photo's usually keep them happy. If you have a letter from a DVLA approved source you will get a age related number. They will give you a number plate authorization form so you can get your number plates made up and tax disc. You should get your V5 in about a week to 10 days. Good luck.
  20. Had a few more inches of snow today, but it's starting to melt which is a pain as my boots are soaking. Swindon got about another 4 inches. Seen quite a few gritting trucks today which is typical. Don't see one for days when it's bad and then when it's managable you can't move for them...
  21. Hope the driver got out of that? Looks a right mess. Hope it wasn't his fault as he will be liable for 10% of the damage...
  22. Green Goddess with a BIG draw bar type caravan on the A40 halfway between Cheltenham and Oxford in a layby. Owner had lots of wood carvings for sale, obviously lives in it full time. Goddess looked standard.
  23. Mike, I was of course stating what we did with them in the Army. For Civilian use, as you say, they need to adhere to all the regulations. That's why I mentioned the HET as it's more practical.
  24. Welcome to the forum Dave. I have the Bedford MJ 4 tonner with Radar Repair Body (the truck is ex Ptarmigan). I was supposed to be emigrating to Alberta a a year and a half ago, but then the recession hit and the plans have had to be put on the back burner for the moment. Your truck looks in nice condition mate. I drove plenty of these in the Army. I have to admit they weren't as popular with the troops as the Bedfords, but they are quicker and more powerfull than the Bedford. Your truck is unusual in that it's only got half it's BATAS colours being plain sand. Is there any Red on it anywhere? What are you going to use the truck for? Are you able to get a comms body for it in Canada? Cheers Andy
